ZOA chief: Netanyahu isn’t a right-winger – he’s a leftist

‘Bibi hasn’t established a single new settlement as PM, he hasn’t applied sovereignty as promised, he’s not a rightist,’ says Mort Klein.

Morton Klein

Morton Klein, the president of the Zionist Organization of America, excoriated Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, deriding the Likud leader as a left-winger.

In an interview with Makor Rishon which was published over the weekend, Klein slammed Netanyahu for failing to apply sovereignty over parts of Judea and Samaria earlier this month in keeping with his campaign promise, along with the lack of new Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria.

“Bibi isn’t a right-winger, he’s center-right,” said Klein. “He hasn’t established a single new settlement since he became Prime Minister and he didn’t apply sovereignty at the beginning of the month. He’s not right-wing, he’s left-wing.”

Klein endorsed World Likud chief Yaakov Haguel’s bid this Tuesday for an additional term at the helm of the organization.

“We support Haguel. He’s our friend, he has helped us, and he is a man of values. It isn’t right to betray him in this election. I personally will be voting for Haguel… as will the other members of our organization.”

“Haguel’s agenda is identical to that of the Zionist Organization of America.”

Haguel will be running for an additional term as chairman of the World Likud this week against challenger Miki Zohar, an MK and coalition chairman.

  1. @ bloch:
Comparing the continuity of IDF administration of all of Area C for now with “Rabbi” Stephen Wise’s sabotage and suppression of American Jewish solidarity with the Jewish victims of the Shoah as 6 million Jews were being murdered? Wow. Now, that’s what I call hyperbole on steroids. My murdered great and grandparents would be rolling over in their graves.

  2. @ bloch:

blochy writes: And when exactly will be a better time…”
WM reply: I do not know. I was upset and angry to see the declaration postponed. I believe that in order for such a declaration of sovereignty to be optimal, it is important for Israel to have the same support in The UNSC as it does today, with The Trump Adm.
The only reason we feel it is time to declare sovereignty in Judea and Samaria now, is because of Trump’s decisions on Jerusalem, The Golan Heights and The JCPOA.
It is a result of Trump’s initiatives that we are looking at such a declaration now. I am okay in principle if Israel advanced the declaration today, however, since obviously it would be preferable for Trump to be re-elected over “…You ain’t Black…” Biden, I can see no harm in postponing the declaration until after the election.
The Declaration could be done December 1st, whether Trump is re-elected or not. It is the least we can do, to cooperate with Trump if for no other reason than the fact that 8 out of 10 Jewish Americans are going to support The Democrats, in a multitude of ways.
In the meantime, Israel will continue to be in the good position it is in today.
If Trump does not prevail, and I am hoping and praying Ted Belman is correct, and he very well may be spot on, not the first time; I would then hope that Netanyahu would not only declare sovereignty over Judea and Samaria but to open up construction for expansion of Jewish communities there and the establishment of at least a dozen new ones.

  3. @ Wooly Mammoth:
And, when exactly will be a better time – after the Republicans are dismissed – after Trump. Too often have we heard – it’s NOT a good time now to take action – hold on, don’t rush. the attitude of Stephan Wise – so-called rabbi during the Shoa. Now YOU with the same retoric. Shame on you !!!

  4. All of a sudden, it seems, when Trump’s numbers were going down, there has been this pathological focus and urgency on pushing through a Judea/Samaria sovereignty declaration.
From what I have read, POTUS is reticent to give approval for such a move, although it is stipulated in his so called Deal of The Century; the better plan with the wrong name. This is confirmed by Kushner and Bolton.
    The obvious message is that;
    1) now is not a good time for this unilateral move by Israel.
    2) wait until after the election

While I could not be more sympathetic to The ZOA, in fact I would vote for Morton Klein for any office he was running for; I do not agree that Netanyahu deserves to be beaten up for his re-evaluation of the implementation of the unilateral declaration.
Obviously Trump wants to give the terrorists in Ramallah additional time to consider whether they really want to pass on this plan.
So, give them more time. Abbas will never accept it, so what is the rush.
What good will it do Israel to declare sovereignty if Trump fails to be re-elected. I am glad Ted is convinced that there is …no way in hell…” Trump will lose. Good, that is what I wanted to hear, but obviously The WH does not wish to be put in a position of having to defend the Japanese style “tidal wave” of mud and debris of political fallout from such an ill timed declaration by Israel.
Netanyahu has been asked to cooperate, obviously.
We also know, from his past chess moves, that Netanyahu does cooperate in such scenarios even if it makes him look bad.
And yes, Netanyahu looks bad and he knows it, but he does not care because he is patient and would prefer to win later than lose now.

  5. BIbi is a major disappointment, no question. What also irks me is how he has done everything possible to sideline the very talented pair, Bennett and Shaked.

Bennett did exceptionally well controlling the China virus months ago when he was defense minister. He should have been, post-election, appointed the corona czar, but no; for as is wellknown, Bibi (and his beaut of a wife Sara) hate (or are jealous of) Bennett, so it was not to be.

in short, everything seems to be showing that Netanyahu, despite his talents and achievements, is falling apart, and it’s only a matter of weeks before the Likud implodes or some other major political crisis occurs.
