Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday night spoke to Israel’s citizens about the war which broke out Saturday morning following a surprise attack on Israel.

“This morning, Hamas forces invaded Israeli territory – on the morning of a holiday, and the Sabbath – and murdered innocent civilians, children and old people. Hamas cruelly and wickedly declared war.”

“We will win this war, but the price will be heavier than we can bear. This is a most difficult day for us all.”

Netanyahu emphasized, “Hamas wants to murder us all. This is an enemy who murders children and mothers in their homes, in their beds. An enemy which kidnaps the elderly, children, young girls. Murderers who slaughter and butcher our citizens, our children, who simply wanted to go out and enjoy the holiday.”

“What happened today has never been seen before in Israel – and I will ensure that it does not happen again. The entire government stands behind this decision.

“The IDF will immediately use all of its power to destroy Hamas’ abilities. We will embark on an all-out war, and we will take great revenge for this black day during which they harmed the State of Israel and its citizens.

“All of the places Hamas is preparing in, all of the places Hamas is hiding in, working out of – we will turn them into rubble.

“To the citizens of Gaza, I say: Get out of there now, because we will act in every place and with all our might.

“At this time, the IDF forces are cleaning out the last of the terrorists from our towns. They are going town by town, house by house, and bringing control back to our hands.

“I send an embrace and my deepest condolences to the bereaved families, whose loved ones were murdered today in cold blood and endless cruelty. We are all praying for the welfare of the wounded and for everyone who is being held as hostage.

“To Hamas I say: You are responsible for their welfare. Israel will exact payment from anyone who harms a hair on their heads.

“To the residents of the south, I say: We are all standing here, alongside you. We are all proud of you, for standing up for them with strength, for fighting.

“To our beloved IDF soldiers, to the police officers, to the security personnel: Remember that you are continuing the Jewish People’s chain of heroes: Joshua, the son of Nun; Judah the Maccabi; the heroes of 1948 and all of Israel’s wars. You are fighting for everyone’s home, for everyone’s future. We are all with you, we all love you, we all salute you.

“To the medical and rescue personnel, and to the many volunteers who came out today bravely, in a long list of places: The nation of Israel salutes you. With the power of your spirit, we will overcome our enemies.

“I spoke a few hours ago with President Biden and with world leaders, in order to ensure Israel’s freedom of action for the continuation of this battle. I thank President Biden for his clear and strong words. I thank the President of France, the Prime Minister of Britain, and many other leaders, for their unconditional support for Israel.

“I turn now to all of Israel’s citizens: We are standing together in this war.”

“This war will take time,” Netanyahu warned. “It will be difficult. Challenging days are yet ahead of us. But I can promise one thing: With G-d’s help, with the help of our combined forces, with the help of our belief in Israel’s eternity – we will win.”

  1. Yes, Sebastien

It looks, on paper at least, that we can leave the lawn mower in the garage:

“All of the places Hamas is preparing in, all of the places Hamas is hiding in, working out of – we will turn them into rubble.

“To the citizens of Gaza, I say: Get out of there now, because we will act in every place and with all our might.

I’m still wary of Israeli “ultimatums” and “expulsions”. Israeli PMs son’t have a good track record of following up on them. I hope it is different this time around. But who will take in the Pals? Perhaps Mali… or Sudan. Better that they should all become martyrs in ‘Aza. God knows.

  2. No more “mowing the lawn” only to have it grow back. Time to retake Gaza. Permanently. The Abraham Accords are great but not at this price.
