Likud Members: Annex Security Fence Areas

A poll of Likud members shows that the vast majority of party members believe that Israel should annex areas within the security fence if the Palestinian Authority declares a PA state in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem. A telephone poll of 1,086 Likud members showed that 81% of party members want Israel to annex the large settlement blocs in Judea and Samaria if the PA fulfills its threat.

The poll was conducted using a scientifically determined cross-section of party members.

  1. Nothing less than pathetic.

Likud MKs know that Israel has legal right to full sovereignty over Judea and Samaria under international law, but they will buckle under whatever the PM settles for, which we can anticipate will be complete surrender.

From the moment PM Netanyahu gave that early speech accepting the creation of the state of Palestine, his MKs have remained shamefully complicit with this plan, agreeing to the Arabization of Jerusalem, to the housing freeze, to the demolition of Jewish homes, to police and courts open discrimination of Jews and soft treatment of violent Arabs. Every once in a while they make pro-settlements statements that are nothing but noise with absolutely no substance – offensive in their duplicity.

It is incomprehensible how Israelis, particularly those living in Judea and Samaria, allow Likud MKs to run roughshod over the party’s platform, and most importantly, over the most basic principles ensuring the country’s survival.

  2. Likud is a minority government. Critical to this issue is whether a majority of coalition government MK’s are in favor of annexation of areas within the security fence (presumably taking in the settlements) if the Palestinian Authority declares a PA state in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem.

Even if a majority of the GOI are in favor, it is a big step forward before the GOI would act on that popular view.

While Israel is at it, they may as well consider extending sovereignty over the Jordan rift valley, which Netanyahu and others insist would be necessary for the security of Israel.

What land in J & S would thus be left on the table to negotiate a 2 state peace solution would be clarified, not that the Palestinians would go along with it and that means the Arab league and the Western nations that in blinkered fashion see the only way to advance their own interests is through appeasement.
