Adam, the danger of a new massacre is on the table and nobody will be there to support the renewed Israeli efforts to get their hostages back. The previous Lebanon war was started to get two hostages back and that cost too many lives.
I agree that it would have been wonderful for Bibi and his cabinet to stand their ground, but probably not worth it.

Channel 14 is offering an alternate perspective which, if accurately reported, should give pause to such concerns as you and I have both expressed on this topic.
https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/399871. Everyone should read this report from the Alma Research and Education Center, composed by Sarit Zehavi and one of her partners at Alma. The author’s descibe the disastrous character of the agreement between Israel and the Lebanese regime, which gives Hezbollah control of all of Lebanon right up to the Israeli border. The Lebanese minister responsible for implementing the accord is actually a member of Hezbollah. Hezbollah controls the Lebanese government. It also controls Unifil, which is supposed to assist the Lebanese army in implementing the agreement, According to the authors, the trustworthyness of both the Lebanese Army and Unifil is “absolutely vero.” They believe that the agreement places the Jewish communities of Northern Israel in danger of a massacre on a much larger scale than the Oct. 7 2023 massacre by Hamas. IN addition, it will enable Hexbollah to continuously shell Israel’s northern communities from the hights overlooking Israel’s northernmost settlements.
IN my opinion, not necessary that of Alma, the biden administration resorted to extreme blackmail to force Israel to agree to the deal. Even so, Netanyahu and the cabinet should have stood their ground, knowing that in only 60 days, the Trump administration is likely to improve American policies towards Israel.
