T. Belman. What the hell. Et tu Brutus? Lieberman is so wrong in his reasoning and his conclusion. We know exactly what she will do namely to beat up on Israel and try to force a freeze and a withdrawal to the 67 lines. She doesn’t say otherwise. Trump on the other hand says all the right things backed by his party’s platform. There is no reason not to trust him.
New York. Hillary Clinton dispatched to Florida one of her most effective surrogates to Jewish voters on Thursday, hoping to shore up support within a community that has repeatedly proven crucial to Democratic victories there.
A political independent who leans heavily to the left, socially liberal and muscular on foreign policy, former Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman tracks closely with the Democratic presidential nominee on a host of issues– and with many Jewish Floridians still on the fence just seventeen days before the general election.
Addressing a temple in Boca Raton, a shul in Miami and a group of rabbi and community leaders, Lieberman emphasized that Clinton is precisely the type of candidate the Jewish community has been waiting for.
“On Israel and on matters of interest to the Jewish community– on general matters of open and tolerant societies, on civil rights and the like– she’s had a very strong and consistent Jewish and pro-Israel record,” Lieberman said in a phone interview.
“He does not,” Lieberman added, of her Republican rival, Donald Trump. “So its very hard to predict what he’s going to do.”
Clinton’s consistency on Israel over the course of her lifelong career in public service is at the heart of Lieberman’s pitch to voters, some of whom remain skeptical of her, according to the former senator, in large part due to her experience within the Obama administration.
They fear she will be an extension of an eight-year experience that has been turbulent for those who care deeply about America’s relationship with the Jewish state. And yet they are fearful of a Trump presidency, given his willingness to disregard of decades-old alliances without much reasoning or warning, Lieberman explained.
The majority of Jewish Americans reliably vote Democratic, and most of Florida’s Jewish voters cast their ballots for Barack Obama– both in 2012 against former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and in 2008 against Arizona Senator John McCain, whom Lieberman endorsed. But Obama’s support among Florida Jews dropped 9 points in the interim, and polls suggest that persuadable voters this year are particularly concerned with the administration’s handling of relations with Israel.
“One of the things holding them up from deciding is their displeasure with some of the things President Obama has done,” said Lieberman, who said he has been speaking with Jewish community leadership around the country over the past year. Lieberman was skeptical of the Iran nuclear deal, and told the audience at one of his events that Clinton had the credibility to enforce the agreement from a position of strength.
“Hillary Clinton is not President Obama,” he added, “and when you look at her record, she would come to the White House with an extraordinary record of support for Israel and very good ongoing relations with Israeli leadership across the political spectrum.”
Compare that to a man who has no experience in foreign policy whatsoever, Lieberman said.
“In addition to the increasing confidence that Hillary Clinton is not Barack Obama, I think that people in the Jewish community have watched the Trump campaign essentially marginalize itself with his positions on things like immigration, with comments that seem to divide people and make people worry about whether he’d have any capacity to unite the country and lead it,” he said. “You know, he criticizes President Obama for sending mixed messages, but honestly, Donald Trump has sent a message to our allies in Europe and Asia that the US is not going to be an ally they can rely on.”
The Clinton campaign believes that Trump’s illiberal tendencies will drive many of these voters– skeptical of the sitting president and willing to vote Republican– to her camp. The question for them is how to drive up turnout amongst Florida’s Jews, who tend to be older voters, many of whom require assistance to their local polling stations.
Congressman Lois Frankel of Southeast Florida’s 21st district attended Lieberman’s events on Thursday. He received several questions on Clinton’s involvement in brokering an international nuclear deal reached with Iran last year, she said in an interview.
Frankel opposed the deal once it reached the House for a vote.
“There has been a steady and I would say unfair drumbeat by some against President Obama, and I think in large part because of a perception– that could be real– of his relationship with [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu,” said Frankel, who sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. “In any event, she’s her own person– and he felt very good, and I agreed with him, that she’d be strong for Israel.”
Polling of the American Jewish community is infrequent, but campaign operatives believe that a late national surge in support for Clinton will directly impact her support within this constituency to her benefit. Polls over the summer that showed her securing roughly 67% of the Jewish vote– precisely what Obama net in 2012–were all conducted before a series of scandals and offensive episodes whittled Trump’s support nationwide.
Nevertheless, Democrats are not taking their chances in this critical state– which, if Clinton wins, will end Trump’s electoral hopes for the presidency. One super PAC, called Jews for Progress, will launch a highly targeted campaign this weekend aimed at Jewish voters who are still undecided, persuadable, “or weakly committed,” according to a source familiar with the campaign.
Lieberman is featured in the media effort, which will consist of paid ads on social media and auto calls to more than 100,000 unique Jewish households in Florida.
Given the extraordinary footprint both candidates have already left on the national consciousness, Lieberman ‘s first task upon arriving in the Sunshine State on Thursday morning was to figure out who, at this point, could possibly still identify as an undecided voter.
“It’s a good question,” Lieberman chuckled.
Dear Joe Lieberman.
You seem to be a nice man, and have a VERY NICE voice!
But the fact that you are a DEMOCRAT IN HEART disqualifies you from advising any HUMAN BEING about what is good for them!
Just retire – you made enough money – you cannot take it with you!
Let America & Israel go to a better pasture and don’t push a SCUMBAG like Hillary upon America & Israel!
Joe Lieberman has forgotten the “Jew Lieberman” smears uttered by the Obama-Hillary wing of the party and is once again groveling.
I once liked Joe, but I always had this queasy, uneasy feeling that if the Jew-haters said jump, he’d do it.
And here he is making excuses for the Iran Deal, a deal he claimed he opposed with all his heart and soul – and has the nerve to call someone who screamed “Jew Bastard”, who called Max Blumenthal wonderful, who prided herself on being the chimp-on-crack’s “attack dog” on Bibi, and who initiated the Iran deal a good friend of Israel.
I guess, little Joe, that if you pull yourself in any direction your lips will become glued to your own ass, if not Hillary’s.
JOE LIEBERMAN…A SCHMUCK, NOT A SCOOP…AND NOT EVEN HIS OWN MAN.
PERIOD.
Bloody Hell…… after my long-winded diatribe about the missin Neurodoc post, WordPress has had the chutzpah to contradict me and actually publish it…. Apologies to all.
My reply to Neurodoc was held up by WordPress about 30 minutes ago, because I accidentally touched the Post Comment key twice. The message I think you’ve already said that appeared. So I though that in about 5-10 minutes it would eventually appear.
But it has not. I don’t know anything about the workings of WordPress, but if I had the maker of his here, I’d guzzle him and tell him to get back to the drawing board. I’ve lost many posts to the same thing, because very often when pressing Post Comment, there isn’t even a flicker to show it was being posted, and I automatically think that it hasn’t “taken” and press again. Then the duplicate sign appears, and sometimes my post appears, and most times it just vanishes for ever……
I just spent 3 hours this afternoon with a Microsoft tech on a phone call, because I’d suddenly lost my touch pad 2 finger scroll, and all movement except with 1 finger. It just didn’t work. She not only didn’t fix it, but left me with my left and right pad corners switched so that nothing worked unless I pressed the bottom rt.corner of the pad. And more likely than not, some annoying box would appear and wouldn’t delete untl I used the bottom rt click, then my original page would disappear and I couldn’t even send a Hotmail; as well over 400 messages disappeared too and are still gone. My son fortunately told me how to reverse the rt.-left pad click, so that’s the reason I can write to this site now.
So please forgive any harsh words I might have used above. I’m just about ready to do a “Clinton” meaning that I could bash in this laptop with a hammer and destroy it, buy a few carrier pidgeons instead. …….. You know what I mean, I’m sure.
@ neurodoc:
It doesn’t matter if Trump is ignorant of foreign and military matters. Firstly, he’s not that ignorant. A successful billionaire, self made basically, with interests all over the world, repeatedly mad meetings with world and economic leaders and governemtns, can’t be all that ignorant of foreign matters. Secondly, re military matters, his instincts are SOUND, RELIABLE and CAREFUL. But the important thing is that he has hudreds of highly experienced military people to advise him. What the hell did ANY President except George Washington and Andrew Jackson know about military matters and then they were merely comparatively scuffles. Oh Yes, forgot Eisenhower, who was antagonistic to Israel. HE had Military experience, but not political…
This question could go on a revolving wheel for ever, but the MAIN ATTRIBUTE that Trump has, which few Presidents-if any at all- ever had, is THAT HE KNOWS EXACTLY TO PICK THE RIGHT PEOPLE FOR whatever job is needed to do. That is a GIFT, that few have. HE HAS IT and America can only benefit from it after the Obamas, Bushes, and other Presidential trash failed miserably.
You are so ignorant of what goes into the making of a President, much much more tha I am, and I don’t know much….but compared to YOU I’m a genius.
So shut up, slink away, and hop into your underground nest, until the year 2025 when 8 years of Republican Presidential effort will be over…that is if the Republicans don’t continue to win the Presidency.
With Joey Lieberman supporting Hillary you might as well have Woody Allen backing her. Lieberman is a Modern Orthodox version of Woody.
Better a cat-loving dog than a self-hating cat

Did Joe Lieberman forget how Hillary kissed Suha Arafat as she was accusing Israelis of blood libel?Did he forget how she started the negotiations with Iran? Did he forget how she screamed at Bibi for 45 minutes, berating him? Did he forget that Tim Kaine walked out when Bibi gave his
Speech to Congress? Any Jew that believes that Hillary and her ” aide” Huma Abedin will be good for Israel, there’s a bridge in Brooklyn I would like to sell to you.
Joe Lieberman is totally dishonest. He is trying to praise Hillary whom we already know is completely corrupt. Joe Lieberman while in the senate circulated his letter attacking Jonathan Pollard. That letter influenced many other senators to advocate that Pollard never be released. Pollard was unfairly blamed for the crimes of Aldrich Ames (CIA) and Robert Hansen (FBI) who were the real culprits and are both serving life sentences. Lieberman could easily have learned the truth but he chose to violate the 9th commandment and lie. It is time that Jews learn to be informend and think for themselves and ignore Lieberman.
Is Uncle Joe trying to compete with me for title of “unfunniest Comedian?” I’m appalled. And Jealous. I feel so threatened.
The white supremacists, neo-nazis, straight up antisemities (e.g., Roger Stone), are all super enthused by Trump, but that is no reason for pause. Trump lies with abandon, repeatedly failing fact checks. Trump’s ignorance of foreign and military affairs is stupefying. And much, much more. But yeah, sure, tell yourselves that he’s a good bet.
@ Austin:
I fully agree with you.
Clinton is utterly reliable though.
We can rely on the facts that follow; That she is a viper, Shelob personified. That is a pathological liar, a sinister character, foul mouthed trash item.
I had the privilege of having worked for Uncle Sam’s Department of Defense Military Avionics Programs at Senior Fellow Engineering level.
Mrs. Clinton is totally devoid of any type of character profile or qualification to be the CiC. Such individual in my view poses a mortal danger to what remains of the US defense capabilities.
Lieberman is a political parasite doing his shill job. How could he, with a straight face mention the Trump “scandals” a mere sprat compared to Clinton’s criminal scandals which merit serious Jail time. He doesn’t mention them at all of course.
And to say with a straight face that Trump has shown himself to be unreliable as an ally overseas. Not if they pay their share he won’t. If they continue dipping into the US pockets of borrowed money, making the national debt higher, then he should, as an American President, think twice before guaranteeing the defence of nations who can afford, far more than the us, to pay their share. He’s talking about wealthy countries.
And also with a straight face to even have the supreme chutzpah to suggest that Trump would be unreliable concerning Israel, notwithstanding both the Republican platform, and his repeated and positive promises to the contrary. Not fprgetting that his daughter is a religious Jew, living in Israel with his religious son-in-law and religious grand-children whom he loves……. Lieberman has far more than chutzpah, but I can’t find the appropriate word for it. Another poster will no doubt supply it.
