  1. Greenrobot, you’re right… That’s the essence of all this. What right does any country have to tell Israel what to do and what not to do.
    This is especially true of Israel’s “ally,” the US, given how it is behaving today.
    In truth, Israel has very few allies, so it behooves Israel to do whatever it wants single-mindedly in order to keep itself safe.

    That being said, I don’t see the US backing down on the consulate issue.

  3. The Israeli government needs to approve a consulate anywhere in the country at least until now, no such approval has been provided to the USA. Also Israel law does not allow for a consulate to a foreign entity on Israeli land.

  4. It is good to see Likud, at least, reaching out to Israel’s allies in the US to pursue an agenda that should be handled by the gov’t. It will have a reduced level of exposure and, hence, a reduced effect given that Barkat and his party are out of power, but it is important to provide an avenue of input for Israel’s allies to work towards influencing the Congress, as they are quite vulnerable and they know it.
