Washington Israel Summit

Gary Bauer of American Values and CUFI writes to invite you to come to Washington,

My friends, I want to you encourage you to make plans today to come to Washington, D.C. this summer for the second annual Washington Israel Summit, sponsored by Christians United For Israel. As you may know, I am proud to serve as a national co-director of Christians United For Israel (CUFI), founded by Pastor John Hagee.

Pastor Hagee created CUFI last year to unite pro-Israel Christians around the country so they could speak and act with one voice in a coordinated and effective manner on the critical issues confronting America and Israel. In four short months, Pastor Hagee rallied over three thousand pro-Israel Christians to Washington, D.C for CUFI’s first summit in July 2006. The timing proved prophetic as Hezbollah had just unleashed thousands of rockets against the Jewish state, while thousands of Christians were in Washington urging our leaders to stand firmly behind Israel in its time of need!

That conflict has passed, but the threat to Israel’s security remains and is growing. Just consider the news of recent days:

Iran defiantly continues its aggressive pursuit of nuclear weapons, all the while insisting that Israel will be “wiped off the map.”

Hamas and Fatah have joined hands in their “resistance” to the Jewish state. In fact, after agreeing to join Fatah in a “unity government,” Hamas issued a statement this week that read, “We will not betray promises we made to [Allah] to continue the path of jihad and resistance until the liberation of Palestine, all of Palestine.”

Saudi Arabia is renewing its demand for Israel to acquiesce to the so-called “right of return” of Palestinian refugees.

Jordan’s King Abdullah recently spoke before a joint session of Congress and had the audacity to say that “the main responsibility [for peace] lies with Israel,” while making no conditions on the terrorist thugs in Hamas, Hezbollah, or Islamic Jihad. He went on to demand that the United States take the lead in pressuring Israel to make more concessions – to give up even more land for peace.

And here at home, those advocating the appeasement of our Islamofascist enemies, and pushing a policy of “retreat and defeat” in Iraq, are increasingly vocal and determined. We must stand up, and we must speak up!

I’m pleased to report some positive developments from this past week. Pastor John Hagee delivered a rousing speech before 5,000 attendees and prominent Jewish leaders at the annual policy conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). His speech was interrupted by 13 standing ovations! Following the AIPAC conference, Pastor Hagee and I attended a meeting on Capitol Hill with congressional leaders, updating them on CUFI’s activities and, once again, urging them to remain steadfast in the fight against Islamofascism. But, my friends, we can’t do it alone – we need you! – and that’s why I am asking you to make plans today to attend CUFI’s second annual Washington Israel Summit here in our nation’s capital July 16th – 19th.

You won’t want to miss this outstanding event, friends! CUFI has put together an all-star line-up of speakers for the Washington Israel Summit, including former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, former Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Dore Gold, and former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu! In addition, one day of the summit will be dedicated to meeting with members of Congress on Capitol Hill, and that’s why it is so important for you to make every effort to attend the summit. Few things impact politicians more than personal meetings with their constituents in Washington, D.C. To register online, visit www.cufi.org, or call (866) 683-6423. But don’t wait to sign up – early registration discounts end April 30th.

I look forward to seeing you!
