US denies ultimatum over West Bank settlements

T. Belman. Regardless of the denials, I believe that Obama has made it crystal clear to Israel, that she must toe the American line or lose the support of the US in the UN and who knows what else. Nothing short of such an ultimatum would have got Netanyahu to cease building in the eastern part of Jerusalem. Even now Israel is constrained by the US to not “over react” to the Palestinian murder spree. Kerry and Obama keep hectoring us on the matter.

Media reports claim Washington may not veto UN resolution on settlements if Israel ups construction after terror wave

The US State Department denied reports it had issued Israel an ultimatum this week threatening not to veto a UN Security Council resolution declaring West Bank settlements illegal if Israel announced new settlement construction.

Deputy State Department Spokesman Mark Toner said that while his office was aware of such reports in the press, those reports were “false.”

“Our position on settlements is well known and hasn’t changed,” he said. “We convey it regularly to the Israeli Government. I know we don’t generally comment on private conversations, but I’d like to nip that story in the bud. We haven’t issued any kind of ultimatum on this.”

Toner emphasized that far from issuing any such ultimatum regarding a UN resolution, “there’s not even a resolution out there right now.”

At a meeting of Israel’s security cabinet on Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected calls by senior ministers for construction in Jewish settlements in the West Bank in response to an increase in Palestinian terrorism.

According to Channel 2, Netanyahu refusal to authorize new construction was due to a purported Obama administration warning that the US wouldn’t necessarily veto a French-sponsored resolution at the United Nations Security Council.

The US has thus far been a staunch supporter of Israel at the UN, protecting it from condemnation in the 15-member council by using its veto power as a permanent member.

“We will not endanger our international support for some construction tender or for expanding construction in Itamar,” a senior source was quoted as saying.

Netanyahu reportedly told ministers from the pro-settlement Jewish Home party that new construction in the West Bank was liable to endanger Israeli settlers even more and complicate the situation between Israelis and Palestinians.

Following a three-hour meeting with Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon late Tuesday, leaders of the Yesha Council umbrella group for settlements suggested diplomatic pressure against settlement building was acutely felt in the PMO.

“We weren’t told that there’s no building and there’s a freeze. We were told that there is an inability to approve and advance construction under current pressures,” council chairman Avi Roeh told reporters after the meeting. “Strategically, it’s a serious mistake not to approve construction; it will harm the settlement [project] and in the end cause harm to Jerusalem and the entire state of Israel,” he added.

“We presented our dissatisfaction with the current policy of the government when it comes to settlement,” Roeh said. “We raised the ethical and strategic issues linked to settlement. On this issue, sadly, we did not receive worthwhile answers,” but rather “answers that were partial and unsatisfactory. There was talk,” he explained, “about the difficulties the government faces, primarily abroad, in its ability to allow construction and planning.”

Yesha Council leaders, comprising local government heads from West Bank regional councils, plan to meet Wednesday to discuss future steps in their efforts to pressure the government to up its response to the terror wave.

In a response to the Channel 2 report, a senior Israeli official told The Times of Israel that the Prime Minister’s Office was “unaware of any American threats” to refrain from exercising its veto power in the Security Council.

yes, there are countries that will acept them but they must first be forced, induced and or convinced to leave

unlike CA’s 100k scam, 50% of gazans were polled at wanting to go to europe but they did not have the cash to go, and the price was 10k per person by smuggler, AND they were willing to risk their lives to go. At possibly a couple of thousand per person Israel could get together with the Israeli/russian mob who likely works with the gaza mob and get the infrastructure expanded to increase the flow and bring down the price for more of them to go. Its likely that many in PA would also like to go to eu. I am serious, govs have worked with the mob before, including in the US. Under the table is the best way and they they dont need to be asked for permission. Over 600k entered europe already this year illegally and eu predicts another million and a half illegals next year… if they were pals it would solve Israel problem right away. The more they suffer or slide into poverty coupled with a more organized expanded smuggling ring is the more will go. We just saw that it works perfectly and we could kill 2 birds with one stone, now thats worth paying a couple of bucks for, seeing pals flooding eu.

flooding europe with honor killers can affect them to rethink their positions… Israel should take note and send them some pals.

Yes a long held position of mine and you can tell CA that yes, there are countries that will acept them but they must first be forced, induced and or convinced to leave let me count the ways Haaaaaa They can call themselves Syrians and be welcomed in Swden Haaaaaa I will provide them with modes of transport 🙂

  3. “We’re embracing a government we really don’t like at all. We have to bring down this flow of migrants. It has become realpolitik; we’re leaving aside our worries about domestic [Turkish]politics,” the diplomat was quoted saying.

Similar assessments came from analysts before Erdogan arrived in Brussels.

Facing an unprecedented migrant influx, a rising threat from Islamic State terrorists, and unchecked Russian military intervention in Syria, Europe needs Erdogan like never before,” wrote Simon Tisdall

all his bluffed supporters will say that he cant reveal the truth… but that is pure BS considering he publicly got in an argument over Iran which went no where and had no backup plan. revealing facts is less a problem than a public argument… unless the public argument was staged….like the cyclical argument with abbas of making threats to appear strong to his public, BB withholding taxes to appear to be doing something to his public, abbas withdrawing the threats under cover of getting the money…. and on and on the game continues… a drama for fools.

  5. We were told that there is an inability to approve and advance construction under current pressures,” council chairman Avi Roeh told reporters after the meeting.

I think BB has snatched the crown of Abu Bluff from Abbas. It appears that BB is in a poker game with the Israeli public, intimating, making vague statements, pretending that something is going on…. is he bluffing the Israeli right wing?
Is the relationship between a prime minister and his public in israel a poker game where one never divulges what is really going on and wins elections on inferences and sleight of hand. Why do the Israeli public need to be kept from whatever “truth” BB is hiding from them? What is it he cannot tell them? Why is he whispering behind his poker hand? Is there a cause for concealment, for hiding the facts and truth. OR is he bluffing his own electorate, the Israeli public, pretending and intimating things in order to cover up his behavior and anti right wing, anti jewish, anti zionist and anti jewish settlement agenda…. the only agenda that he has had any success or achievement. His greatest success is that during his 2 terms and now a third he has managed to obstruct any potential right wing advancement by pretending to do the opposite.
when will Israelis call the hand of the new Abu Bluff?
I see no reason for intimation, pretend, inferences, etc. show the public real facts rather than always cruising on the foolish trust of a bluffed public.

  6. Netanyahu is servile before Obama even though he is not a friend of Israel and has helped Iran acquire a nuclear bomb.

This goes to the heart of the Jewish reticence in being unwilling to demand respect for its humanity and national rights.

Jewish supineness has rightly earned Israel Obama’s contempt.

  7. The “ultimatum” joker is a part of Netanyahu’s old marked card game.
    It works this way… Play attention… 🙂
Mime Minister Netanyahu, in a timely fashion and right before Islamic beasts gruesome murders of Jews sequels happen, goes to do some speeching and face making in the US and VOILA! the Mime Minister comes back with… “ultimatums” served against poo old Netanyahu and us all.
Same ole cheese served time and time again by the Mime.
Netanyahu is the most deleterious mole ever planted into the Jewish people’s hopes in Eretz Israel.
Being liars, connivers, betrayers and wimps come natural to unJews.
