Unvaccinated older Israelis, have a serious COVID rate six times higher than those vaccinated

As government desperately tries to galvanize 1.1 million who are spurning vaccine, data shows that severe cases also far higher among younger people if they aren’t inoculated

Today, 1:05 pm

Despite the Delta variant, vaccines are delivering high protection, and the rate of serious infections in Israel is six times higher among older people who fail to inoculate than others in the same age bracket.

Health Ministry data shows that among Israelis aged 60-plus, there are 16.6 people per 100,000 in serious condition. Among the unvaccinated the figure is 98.5. (There were 394 people in serious condition nationwide as of Tuesday morning, the ministry said.)

Israel is struggling with a major COVID-19 spike, and on Tuesday coronavirus czar Salman Zarka said the country was at a “critical point.”

Like other countries facing the Delta variant, Israel has seen a drop in vaccine effectiveness, with the Health Ministry announcing in early July that it is now 64 percent effective in preventing infection, while effectiveness rates were previously in the 90s.

But the key parameter is serious illness, and experts say the latest statistics paint an encouraging picture.

“They very clearly show that despite the highly infectious nature of the Delta variant, the vaccine is still kicking in and preventing serious illness,” Prof. Nadav Katz, a coronavirus statistician from the Hebrew University, told The Times of Israel.

“It’s important to show this graph. It shows how extremely effective the vaccine is in preventing morbidity,” Katz said.

In the graph, below, the blue line shows how many unvaccinated people are in serious condition per 100,000 population, and the dark green line shows fully vaccinated people. The light green refers to partly vaccinated people,

This graph, by Israel’s Ministry of Health, shows the number of serious COVID cases among over-60s by date, per 100,000 people. The left axis shows the number of people. The top line shows unvaccinated people, the bottom line shows fully vaccinated people. The bottom line represents partly-vaccinated people.

Under 60s are feeling the benefit of vaccines in avoiding serious illness, as are those above that age. For every 100,000 people under 60 who are not vaccinated, 1.6 are in serious condition with the coronavirus. Among the fully vaccinated the figure is 0.5.

The stats come as Israel’s government is trying hard to convince the 1.1 million citizens who are eligible for vaccines but failing to take shots that they should do so.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has spoken out harshly against vaccine refusers, and ministers are reportedly considering financial incentives to get them to inoculate. They are believed to take the view that convincing the many teenagers who are failing to vaccinate but pose a significant risk as spreaders of infection would be an effective way to prevent another lockdown.

Vaccine holdouts tend to be young, with a particularly high concentration among the under-30s.

Data on vaccination levels in different locales additionally highlights lower take-up in Arab and ultra-Orthodox areas.

Nationally, some 90.2% of Israelis age 90-plus are vaccinated with at least two shots, and for the 80-89 age group the figure is 91.5%. It is even higher, 93.1%, for people in their 70s. But the rates decline among younger age groups: 87.2% for people in their 60s; 84.6 for people in their 50s and 81.2% for people in their 40s.

For Israelis in their 30s and 20s, the rates are 77.8% and 72.4% respectively. The 16-19 age group is only 68% vaccinated, and only 26.2% of 12- to 15-year-olds are fully vaccinated.

In each age group, there is a gap of a few percent between people who are fully vaccinated and those who had a first shot but didn’t get a second. “The low rate of youth vaccinating suggests that parents who may well have vaccinated themselves are more hesitant about taking their teenagers for vaccines,” said Katz. He also observed that the younger people are, the smaller they see the risk that COVID-19 poses to their health, and therefore the lower the enthusiasm for vaccines.

Katz said that data on rates of serious illness should encourage these people to follow through, as it suggests that people are compromising their protection by failing to show up for a second dose.

Among the 60-plus, the partly vaccinated have 39.9 serious cases per 100,000, higher than the 16.6 for the vaccinated but far short of the 98.5 for unvaccinated.

The number of seriously ill for people under 60 are too small to allow an accurate analysis, though generally, the unvaccinated and partly vaccinated have been more likely to be in serious condition than the fully vaccinated.

“The indication here is that it’s highly recommended to follow through, and go for a second shot as it increases protection,” said Katz.

    the vast majority of choices on both sides were not made by informed, rationally thinking, responsible voters because the majority is either misinformed or irrational.

    I am glad to see that you got this to post. I saw it in the left column earlier, but when I tapped the link, it wasn’t here when the page opened.

    You have taken this from a different vantage than I had considered, so thanks for taking the time to explain this so carefully. I think as you analyze things, there is a lot of meat on the bone, though the US has had managed elections with growing effects since 2006. But that aside, their intent was to accomplish what Huxley warned about, only the methods and means you listed were not so generally successful as was needed to get the masses to vote against Trump, in favor of anyone. So they stole it. But the public is not so stupefied, or stupid either, to lay down and be so obviously corralled like cattle. Americans are quite a resistant bunch of rebels. If the theft were more subtle, there might have been less resistance. If there had been more caution after the theft, this would also have helped maintain their grip on things. But they stole the election so that they could destroy and remake the nation in an image more pliable to the parties who plotted the theft. Had they waited many years, a decade perhaps, who knows what would have come. But they, all of them, needed to stop Trump and his reforms and their keystone cop plots were successful in only delaying what would have been many changes, I think, after the election – many had already been set before the election. So they had an urgency to move before Huxley’s fears were fully developed. But as you say, the choices provided were quite mis-characterized and the voters were, many at least, motivated for reasons beyond a rational basis, to a point at least.

    I think Huxley made the following points (as I understood them):
    1) the population explosion is making it imperative for the PTB to find the means of controlling the mob (he didn’t use this term, I am using it for emphasis) and at least limiting the growth of the world’s population;
    2) the 4 main means of controlling the mob are:
    a) fear;
    b) the increasingly sophisticated use of technology to reach and manipulate the masses;
    c) using marketing and advertising techniques to permanently and indirectly implant ideas, perceptions, and convictions in the masses starting at the youngest age possible, including preferences for certain personality types, verbiage, and behavior (useful at the time of “elections” when the candidates actually get advice from marketers on how to win);
    d) the use of harmless drugs to tranquilize the masses and make them more compliant and and feeling calm/happy/sleepy;
    3) in order for true democracy to exist 2 conditions are required:
    a) the public which is capable of making informed rational (not emotional) decisions;
    b) smaller constituencies who actually know the people they elect and are able to control them.
    The situation in the US does not permit the existence of true democracy, and it hasn’t done so for a long time.
    Technically, whether the last election was stolen or not, the vast majority of choices on both sides were not made by informed, rationally thinking, responsible voters because the majority is either misinformed or irrational.

    It is a very interesting interview. I have seen interviews with Huxley before, but not this one. One thing I would point out, though, in spite of the glaring similarities in his predictions is that this current regime which is captured by Pharma’s influence was the result of a fraud, not the public’s choice. The influence actually captured the govt, quite physically with their fraudulent election thefts, rather than via indoctrinations, ie the govt was seized by an election swindle and it has been under siege of ever increasing election swindles since ~2006 when the machines were first introduced. So it is not so much that society was overwhelmed by the influence of these mega influencers, as it was surrounded by key operatives who maneuvered with foreign actors to conduct a palace coup via election fraud. Even now, having taken the govt by fraud, they are being challenged by the very public that they have not subdued with their influence or their censorship or their frauds. Remember, the audit in AZ was not a Rep audit. Many of the Rep are either sitting on the fence line or actively opposing the AZ audit, both in AZ and around the US. It is the people who brought this audit, and if there are to be other audits, they will also be driven by the support of the public. So, Huxley’s statements do have many similarities, but the basic construct of basically being overwhelmed from within due to overly powerful influence capturing the voters is not really accurate. In spite of this, though, I do see many points of similarity as you suggest.

    I just spoke with a friend just a few days ago about Soma. I really thought a better comparison with soma is the vaccines, meant to solve everyone’s problems. But, hopefully that comparison will fade as reality continues to settle in.

  4. @peloni

    Like I said, I hope you are right.

    I meant the bitter experience in addition to what we’ve already had because so far what we’ve had hasn’t been enough, apparently.

    Watch the 1958 interview with Aldous Huxley who explained what we are heading into and why:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alasBxZsb40

    As far as new leaders arising – in my pessimistic opinion, they will be eliminated before they’ll get a chance to arise, much less to lead anyone.

    BTW, soma = marijuana/CBT, don’t you think?

  5. @Reader

    I think this idea will die eventually as it should but a lot of harm will be done along the way because people will only learn through bitter experience.

    To your point, a lot of harm has already been done and the bitter experience is behind us, and will only be left on the road in front of us if people are kept ignorant of these terrors that have been projected upon them without just cause. As you know, millions died needlessly, while hundreds of millions suffered anguishing medical trauma. This doesn’t even address the financial ruins that were spread thick across the world and the unknown long term effects of both the virus and the vaccine. No one has been left unmarred by this medical tar baby that was manufactured to be far more terrible than it ever needed to become. So with this in mind, I am hopeful that the public will rise to their own defense. New leaders will arise to champion the awareness of these matters as this information becomes more commonly known and accepted, but it really is dependent upon the information being broadcast far and wide, though, I have more friends who agree more strongly with your thoughts than they do with my own. Still, I believe the vaccine failures and the move to forcefully inject children may each signal a bridge too far has been crossed while nothing the CDC claims about their vaccines or their agenda makes any reasonable sense. We will see.

  6. @peloni

    I hope you are right about the public waking up to what is going on.

    I am kind of pessimistic on that one because most of the public bought the idea of worshiping money and business above all.

    The “democracy” is bought and sold by corporate cash and perks.

    Also, any revolution needs leadership which is now nonexistent and has no place to come from.

    Riots don’t work.

    I think this idea will die eventually as it should but a lot of harm will be done along the way because people will only learn through bitter experience.

  7. The adherents of this idea will fight ’til the bitter end to save it.

    You are likely correct on this, but there is a point at which the public will have their voices heard. Public protests, as are seen in Europe, will have an effect on any politician. And if it doesn’t, that too will have a consequence. Should the public ever truly appreciate the shell game being used against their health interests and that of their families, there will be a comeuppance that will be impossible to ignore, I believe. I hope that moment arrives soon. The consequences of these policies are quite disturbing to read, and the discoveries and emerging concerns become more difficult to contemplate with each passing day(and I mean this literally).

  8. @peloni

    I posted about the expansion of use of this new drug before I read the article.

    It is still better than nothing, and it depends on how thoroughly the medical personnel will follow the restrictions on its use and, of course, on how well it will work on a larger number of patients.

    The reason they will likely never approve the other 2 medications or will approve them in a couple of years is because these won’t make any money for them while the new drug may be patented and sold to bring in at least some cash to compensate for the losses caused by the pandemic (unless the US will somehow prevent Israel from doing so).

    Israel got poisoned by the idea that $$$/shekels are the be-all and end-all of life.

    The adherents of this idea will fight ’til the bitter end to save it.

  9. @Reader

    Thank you for sharing this. It is still only approved for an expanded use to the level of 50 patients. There is such a thing called Compassionate Use Authorization where a seriously ill patient can be offered the use of a drug while it is still undergoing limited testing. Of course, there is really no need for this, as we all know of the safety over decades and the positive results of the drug cocktails established by Dr. Zelenko and Dr. McCullough among others. Still, he fact this new drug claims to be so effective in “critical” cases(whatever this vague term is defined to mean) is very exciting new, though. But we have to recognize that they have only “cured” 14 patients. And 14 out of 14 is a great score, but it is still only based on a very few cases. They need to release the use of HCQ and IVM.

    Bear isn’t actually “bringing it to our attention”.(maybe to YOUR attention) It has been mentioned in Arutz several times over the past months, and I remarked on it here a couple of times, saying that I was waiting for it. .

    AS you see, they began their work about 9-10 months ago already. What Bear is showing us is another report on the progress, issued by the Team.

  11. Bear, thanks for bringing to our attention this remarkable triumph of Israeli medicine. I wrote about his great discovery as well in an earlier post.

  12. Has anyone noticed that Israeli media has been publishing contradictory information which sometimes occurs even on the same page of a publication on the same day?

    Their opinion of the reasoning abilities of their readers must be incredibly low.

  13. I am waiting for the perfection, that is after Phase 3 of the trials of the new Israeli Vaccine which has very successfully passed Phase 2 in humans so far. They seem to be speeding up. A short time ago they had completed the successful processing of pigs.

    Unless that was a different group, I am inclined lately to overlook some specifics as we can do nothing about it anyway but …WAIT.. And regardless of ou inner, influenced, feelings can do nothing about it.

  14. COVID: 90% of patients treated with new Israeli drug discharged in 5 days
    The Phase II trial for an Israeli COVID drug saw some 29 out of 30 patients, moderate to serious, recover within days.

    Some 93% of 90 coronavirus serious patients treated in several Greek hospitals with a new drug developed by a team at Tel Aviv’s Sourasky Medical Center as part of the Phase II trial of the treatment were discharged in five days or fewer.
    The Phase II trial confirmed the results of Phase I, which was conducted in Israel last winter and saw 29 out of 30 patients in moderate to serious condition recover within days.
    “The main goal of this study was to verify that the drug is safe,” Prof. Nadir Arber said. “To this day we have not registered any significant side effect in any patient from both groups.”
    The trial was conducted in Athens because Israel did not have enough relevant patients. The principal investigator was Greece’s coronavirus commissioner, Prof. Sotiris Tsiodras.

  15. Many thanks, Peloni,, for providing us with vital information about what would be the medically sound response to the pandemic, and what is flawed about the Israeli government’s and medical establishment’s response.

    I had never known that vaccinations should never be administered in the midst of an epidemic. Is that true for other vaccines as well, such as measles and influenza? Or is this a concern only for the cv2-19 vaccines? Please instruct us about this aspect of vaccinations, Peloni.

  16. The usual apples-to-oranges comparisons that are highly misleading.

    394 Israelis “seriously ill” with coronavirus, out of a population of more than 8 million people. is hardly evidence of a national health crisis. How many Israelis are seriously ill with heart disease? With cancer? With pneumonia in its many different forms? With emphasis? With Parkinson’s disease? Alzheimers disease? Liver disease,? AIDS? How many are in serious or critical condition from car crashes? Drug overdoses? Alcohol abuse? Surely there are more than 394 people in serious condition from many of these illnesses, as well as from accidents and suicide attempts.

    For that matter, how many of the people reportedly seriously from Covid are actually suffering from one or another type of pneumonia, or from a streptococcus infection, or from influenza? Cv2-19 rarely causes serious illness unless it develops into pneumonia. But pneumonia can develop from any number of other illnesses as well, and even without any preceding illness–making the diagnosis of covid2-19 problematical. It is possible to test positive for Covid while simulataneously suffering from other, unrelated illnesses.

    Many supposed cases of covid could actually be influenza. The allegedly complete disappearance of influenza since the covid pandemic began is implausible. Recently the CDC inadvertently disclosed that the standard test used to test for Covid cannot distinguish between it and influenza–even though they quickly realized their “mistake” and denied that that was what they meant to say. It is possible that half or more serious cover cases are actually serious influenza cases. For time immemorial, influenza has often developed into a serious illness with some individuals, including the elderly and young children. And every year prior to 2020, some people have died of it. There is no rational basis for the claim that covid has caused influenza to disappear.

    I am not saying that one should not be vaccinated. The vaccinations have undoubtedly saved many lives. But one size doesn’t fit all. Whether one should be vaccinated depends on many factors, including age, ,medical history, comorbidities or the absence of them, possible allergic reactions, pregnancy andmany other factors. Whether or not to be vaccinated should be a matter of individual choice. It is not true that everyone must be vaccinated to avoid a national calamity. The Israel government should stop bullying the unvaccinated, and should stop spreading panic when there is no reason for it.

    The argument that there is a relatively high number of unvaccinated people over 60 who who have serious cases of Covid (one in a thousand) is hardly evidence that vaccinations are good for people under 18, or much the less children over 12. Serious cases of Covid for individuals in these age brackets are few, while harmful reactions to vaccination are more common in these age groups than in people over 60.

  17. I noticed that not one word of treatment was mentioned in this article which bemoans the poor fools who will not do something as simple as being vaccinated. It seems too obvious to state, but I will in any case remind everyone who sees this article as a reason to vaccinate the elderly or anyone, that these people just need to be treated as any person who are sick. They just need treatment and many will survive. Their vaccine status can be pursued when this outbreak is over, if this is the intent of the CDC, but their immune systems should not be burdened with fighting a vaccine and the virus together. This is a wretched use of state authority to prevent the ill from such ready treatments that their leaders refuse to allow. Israel would not withhold treatment from their enemies who try to kill them on the battlefield, but they won’t treat their own citizens because the CDC and Pharma don’t authorize it. Do they not see the harm they are allowing to occur by banning treatments??

  18. There is likely more at play here than just vaccinated vs unvaccinated. Bibi’s govt was quite intent upon his vaccine program and the primary and early focus of that effort was upon the elderly which Bennett has pursued with a similar focus. They are the largest at-risk category so this policy would seem reasonable for a safe and effective vaccine should it not have been administered in the midst of an outbreak, but there is a bigger point to be made regarding the elderly who were not vaccinated. Those who are not vaccinated include many who are judged to be too frail to receive the shot, either by their care-givers estimate or their own. The elderly are not just older people, they are older people with multiple disease processes whose stability is quite tenuous. There are also people who were resistant to being vaccinated because who wants to be first at anything, and then after the side effects where known, none who had reservations would be jumping for the jab. But the point I am trying to make here is that many of these people who are dying, are very likely to be found, when looking closely at each case rather than the group, as having multiple disease issues which kept them from being vaccinated.
