Under International Pressure Netanyahu Saves Illegal Arab Settlement While Demolishing 2 Jewish Neighborhoods

Hundreds of police and soldiers were mobilized this week for the evacuation and demolition of five illegal structures in the Bedouin settlement of Susya in the southern Hebron hills, in Area c, which, according to the Oslo Accords, is under complete Israeli control. But on Monday night, according to Ynet, the prime minister’s office was instructed to postpone the evacuation to an undetermined date. The reason, Ynet speculates, is the coming visit of Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt, President Trump’s envoys to the peace negotiations.

The fight against the demolition of Arab homes in Susya is one of the symbols of the PA struggle against Israel’s authority over Judea and Samaria, and the Netanyahu government has been under heavy international pressure, especially in recent weeks, to prevent the demolition, which is expected to receive extensive international coverage.

Meanwhile, unafraid of international rebuke over destroying Jewish property, over the past week Israeli security forces evacuated two Jewish neighborhoods in Judea and Samaria: Netiv Ha’Avot in Gush Etzion and Tapuach West in Samaria.

The Regavim movement, which champion a petition in the High Court of Justice against the rogue outpost in Susya, issued a statement saying: “In the past week Netanyahu has implemented the demolition of the Netiv Ha’Avot neighborhood and Tapuach West, but has refrained from destroying the Palestinian Authority outpost in the southern Hebron hills. Netanyahu can’t blame the High Court and the leftist NGOs, when in practice he is authorizing strict enforcement against the settlements, and at the same time he is being feckless against the intensive illegal activity of the Palestinian Authority.”

This was the third reprieve the illegal Bedouin settlement has received since setting facts on the ground in 2010 with heavy European support. As The Washington Post reported in August, 2016, Spain donated the local school, Germany solar panels, Ireland water pumps, Norway, Italy Belgium and other countries the children’s playground. Nevertheless, according to the Post, the settlement’s makeshift structures have “more the feeling of a protest camp than a functioning Palestinian village. There are no streets, shops or mosques, and no permanent homes. There do not seem to be many people, either — giving some support to Regavim’s claim that most of the residents live in the nearby Palestinian town of Yatta.”

Before the Bedouins were imported to Susya, staring in 2010, the Israeli government’s official policy regarding the area stated: “There was no historic Palestinian village at the archaeological site there; the [existing] village consists of only a few seasonal residences for a few families.” Israel expropriated the land in 1986, stating it was “necessary for the continuation of archaeological work.”

According to Regavim, which petitioned the High Court of Justice to execute the demolition orders for Susya in 2012, the place was used seasonally before 1986, as grazing area and olive groves. Regavim issued a report citing travelers from the late 19th century who found ruins at the site, while nearby Semua was inhabited. The 1945 British Mandate census does not mention Susya, and a survey from 1967, done after Six-Day War, refers to Khirbat Susya as ruins in contrast to nearby villages such as At-Tuwani and Yatta.

  1. Daniel Pipes is no fortune teller extraordinaire. At the very beginning, when Trump was talking about his “Deal” he said that for Jerusalem Israel would have to make concessions, that neither side would be satisfied, However, he has never returned to this, and it was only a brief one-time remark. doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

I recall bringing this very point up several times in posts here, but never got any responses from anyone. Since then, months ago already, matters have progressed far beyond this Peace deal, with the rapprochement with the Arab States against Iran, closer Indian relationship, the US leaving the UN organisations with scathing comments about them and etc.

It looks to me as if Trump sees that the PA cannot run a state, and it will be a lot less, more of “how to fit these local Arabs into a niche where they can carry on life, make a living and stop being a drain on the whole world, stirring up firestorms when they want to.

Of course the best way that this can happen is to boot them all out either to Jordan, Egypt or any of the other 51 Muslim States, that is willing to accept them. Myself, except that they will be close to Israel instead of thousands of miles away, the Sinai seems the perfect place. Egypt really has no use for it, can’t run it or guard it, they may get a burning bush of wisdom and do Israel a Mitzvah….

Whatever the most brilliant Trump outcome, Israel will ALWAYS have to be on guard, with cutting edge military technology.and will need every scrap of land they can get their hands on. I can see, the way things are going today, that with The Jews bound hand-and-foot in a strait-jacket of ridiculous, antagonistic and negatively interpreted laws, the Supreme Court, and the Bedouin polygamists, seemingly in tandem, Israeli Jews will become a minority by the end of this century certainly and most likely long before. They will begin to leave the country for overseas, and in 150 years it will be like as if Israel had never existed. Populated mainly by Goyim, with some Jews scattered in Jerusalem, Safat, Hebron, and a few other places they’ll cling to.

    Just projecting my imagination….

  2. @ Edgar G.:
    Hi, Edgar.

    Daniel Pipes

    http://www.danielpipes.org/18364/israel-has-nothing-to-fear-from-trump-plan

(Full disclosure: Daniel was a “Never Trumper” during and after the 2016 election) has been mistrustful of the Trump Administration’s motives in relocating the US Embassy to Jerusalem. He suspects that it’s a case of

    “I gave you something. Now you give me something”;

and that the “something” we expect Israel to give is land of Israel. With Arab and Israeli leaders, plus US special envoys visiting capitals around the world in a ME version of a Chinese fire alarm, I suspect, more and more each day, that Daniel was right.

I can’t think of any country that has managed to maintain static borders over the long run. Israel could be facing a “two state solution”, or perhaps an expansion into Syria and Lebanon, and maybe both.

    Interesting times ahead.

  5. I don’t understand the reason for all the fiddling around that Netanyahu does, which is against the Jewish People whom he “SERVES” or is elected to, “because of ” INTERNATIONAL PRESSURE”……what sort of pressure would interfere enough with a Sovereign State, which is obeying the LAW but evicting the illegal interlopers.

What the hell could they do…..Maybe G-D Forbid, the EU might vote against Israel at a Human Rights craperooo, or at General Assembly on Arab resolutions, .Increase the “against Israel” decisions from 50 a years to 60…..?? ..I don’t know what….?? maybe stop using computer chips, or Israeli life saving medical inventions… Maybe they’ll they’ll make Pesach disappear….

Would anyone have a reasonable answer to my query…? It has to be a devastating blow against Israel,.far worse than they already do every single day.

And why should the visit of Greenblatt and Kushner stop all Israeli legal actions dead….Is the whole country coming to a halt….. Are the Americans particular friends of the Illegal terrorist Muslims….??…what is it…???
