By Daniel Greenfield, FPM MAR 4/22
If the United States were being invaded and on the brink of conquest, I’d want a leader willing to do absolutely everything. So I’m not going to fault Zelensky for doing what’s best for his country. (Likewise, Putin believes that conquering Ukraine and any other country that used to be part of the Soviet sphere of influence is what’s best for his country. Nationalism is only as good as the country or its leader.)
That said, the willingness of too many people to climb on board with whatever propaganda Zelenskyy or Putin are spouting this week is too much.
Meanwhile, Jewish people and pro-Israel outlets seem happy to ignore the fact that Ukraine under its various governments has a history of consistently voting against Israel and with the terrorists at the UN. Instead, they’re straightforwardly rerunning cringe nonsense like Zelenskyy comparing the bombing of Ukraine to the Holocaust. A particularly egregious argument considering that Ukrainians played a significant role in helping the Nazis kill Jews.
And then there’s nonsense like this.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday expressed disappointment at the Israeli leadership’s response to his requests for aid as his country fights off a Russian invasion.
“I expected greater support from Prime Minister [Naftali] Bennett,” he said at a press conference.
“I saw a nice picture of Jews wrapped in [Ukrainian] flags by the Western Wall,” said Zelensky, who is Jewish. “They prayed for us, and I thank them for it. Our relations with the Israeli leadership are not bad, but they are being tested in a time of need. I did not feel that the Israeli prime minister is wrapped in our flag.”
Why exactly should the Israeli PM be wrapped in a Ukrainian flag? Has Zelensky been wrapped in the Israeli flag or the PLO flag?
Let’s review some of Ukraine’s UN votes on Israel in 2020.
Ukraine voted in favor of the UNRWA resolutions, abstained from the militantly anti-Israel, “Report of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories” and voted in favor of the “Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the occupied Syrian Golan” resolution which condemns Jews living in Judea and Samaria, and specifically in Jerusalem.
That would include the area of the Western Wall that Zelensky mentioned.
Ukraine also voted in favor of the “The occupied Syrian Golan” resolution
This sort of thing was fairly typical.
Before all this Zelensky’s government, like many others around the world, calculated that its best bet was to appease the Muslim world by being hostile to Israel at the UN. Despite that, Israel voted to condemn the Russian invasion and has provided some aid. But it’s unmitigated chutzpah to repeatedly attack Israel in international forums and delegitimize its capital and existence, and then complain that Israel isn’t supportive enough of Ukraine.
Ukraine has asked Israel to establish a field hospital, and the Foreign Ministry is preparing an additional humanitarian aid package for Ukraine. Other items expected to be in the next round of humanitarian aid are generators that Israel bought, which will be brought to Ukraine directly from Europe, a diplomatic source confirmed. In addition, Israel plans to continue to send medical equipment, medications, and bandages, the source said.
Not good enough, I suppose.

In my opinion this war is for the sole purpose of God giving His people living in exilic graveyards, their last chance to return to their only safe haven – Eretz Yisrael. Those that refuse this “offer” will perish (as they did in the first exodus from Egypt.)
Adam that is just another diversion. I really do not want to discuss anything but this war. This war has a chance of becoming use of nuclear weapons. Can you not use common sense and stop acting like a political child.
Trotsky is another example of what I mean. In his capacity as a journalist, his criticisms of the Tsar’s government were reasonable and on target. Later, his critique of Stalin’s tyranny was also justified. Be that as it may, Trotsky helped to establish many of the autocratic policies of the Bolshevik regime, and was involved in repressing all dissent, using inhumane tactics, such as indescriminate shelling and bombing of civilian areas, in the civil war, establing concentration camps, forced relocations of civilians, confiscation of peasants’ grain without compensation, and many other inhumane measures that were later carried out on a wider scale by Stalin. The fact that his criticisms of governments in which he did not serve were often accurate and reasonable did not mean that his own objectives, once in power, were good.
Adam
“There are many reasonable grounds for arguing that America should be neutral”…
You misunderstand. The great American nation should be honest and fair.
There’s nobody here who agrees with Castro, or Chomsky.
These are all YOUR diversions.
We are only HERE talking about Ukraine.
This is why the war is happening.
Not once have you talked about the Maidan Massacre. I mean not one word. I emphasise not one!
You have said not one word and I feel most perturbed by your duplicity.
Why?
I would really welcome you talking about the coup of February 2014.
JUST THAT ADAM.
Laura Yes. And…But America PRETENDS to support Israel but stabs it in the back
And please Laura we are talking here only about this war. Have respect for the site.
Ted would like Adam to answer you but I want to add something else. These countries of Europe, Britain and America are now openly angling for the overthrow of Putin so in my mind that represents a Fascism in world nation affairs. They do this. Yet they call Putin a Hitler. This is now common. I wonder do they WANT a nuclear arms outbreak?
Daniel Greenfield, show us the numbers!
Show us Ukraine’s UN voting record on Israel, vis a vis Russia’s record. I dare say, you will find hardly any difference.
@Ted Belman
You are trying to reason with people who can’t think.
They can only emote and call people who disagree with them what they think are horrible names the definition of which they know nothing about and are not willing (or able?) to learn.
@Ted. I agree with the American “fascist” right about almost everything. The obvious point of serious disagreement is Ukraine. That is why I was so shocked that people who I had previously admired are supporting Russia’s agression against Ukraine, and have done so in a very emotional, committed way. A way that suggests actual committment to Russia, not just practical objections to U.S. support for the Ukrainians. There are many reasonable grounds for arguing that America should be neutral in the conflict because it is too dangerous to risk conflict with Russia. But the fascist right’s obvious ideological and emotional identification with Russia reveals their true agenda. “The last temptation is the highest treason–to do the right thing for the wrong reasons.” (T.S. Elliot).
There are historical precedents for people making justified and truthful criticisms of other peoplebut who then out to have a questionable agenda themselves. One example is Fidel Castro. His criticisms of the Batista regime that preceded him were accurate. The Batista regime was corrupt, repressive and brutal, exactly as Castro said. But once in power, Castro built a dictatorship that was more enduring than Batista’s, committed many violations of human rights, and has left Cuba impoverished.
Noam Chomsky’s criticism of the United States for its support of an Islamic dictatorship in Indonesia, which may have killed up to 2 million ethnic Chinese as suspected Communists, had a factual basis and was justied in and of itself. But his support for Pol Pot’s genocide in Cambodia, his hatred of Israel, and his support for Communism was completely unjustified.
The list of people who were justified in their criticisms of governments then in power, but who had sinister objectives themselves, could go on and on.
@Adam
You obviously agree with the “fascist” right in everything. So on what basis to you conclude,
I want no part of such a dictatorship. That’s why I am against the criminal regime in America. They have no legitimacy and are the true fascists. They are partnering with big business and abolishing our rights and our democracy.
Putin arouses the admiration of the American fascist right because he calls himself a conservative, describes himself as a Bible-reading Christian, has patronized the Russian Orthodox Church and has rebuilt many of the their churches that the Communist regime destroyed, has denounced homosexuality and transgenderism, denounced “liberalism” and the “liberal world order,” and has promoted traditional masculine, “he-man” values. But they ignore the many very dark sides of Putin’s regime–his murder of hundreds of journalists and others who have criticized him (those whom he merely puts in jail are the lucky ones), his looting of hundreds of billions of dollars of the Russian people’s money and the movement of his and his “oligarch” friends embezzled money to offshore accounts in the Caribbean, his brutal aggression against the Ukrainians, Georgians, Chechen and Ingush, his sale of massive amounts of arms to Iran his and technical assistance to the Iranians working to refine nuclear fuel to weapons grade, his support for the odious, murderous Assad regime, his recognition of the “State of Palestine,” etc.etc. In other words, the American crypto-fascist right supports an absolute dictatorship, and is willing to look the other way at massive corruption and murders, provided that the dictator professes conservative values.
Infamous.
@Laura. I agree 100% with what you have said.
I thought highly of certain American rightists when they exposed the wrongdoings of the Biden-Harris administration and Fauci. That includes Tucker Carlson, Gerald Celente, Daniel Greenfield, Meg Tierney and many others. But when they came out with emotional and impassioned support for Putin, parroted his lies and distortions, and slandered Ukraine and its courageous president, they revealed their true colors. They want an absolute dictatorship in America modeled on that of Putin’s Russia.
The pro-Russian American right wants a government that doesn’t have to deal with a “deep state” of leftist civil servants, troublesome and meddling judges, politicians and the media who harass police and bring criminal charges against them when they do their job of protecting the public, a government that promotes homosexuality, transgenderism, etc. I agree with them about all of these issues. But they lose their way when they see an absolute dictator as the solution for the United States, and see Putin as their model for this future American dictator.
Yes, they are fascists.
From Gateway Pundit:
So much for the view that Trump was a supporter of Putin’s imperialist agenda.
Trump’s expressions of admiration for Putin were admiration for a worthy adversary, not support for Putin’s ambition to conquer Ukraine and other neighboring countries. During the Trump administration, U.S. sanctions on Russia and Russian “oligarchs” were increased. Military aid to Ukraine was also increased.
@Laura
To have any credibility , you have to substantiate your claim that Russia, not the US, is giving the bomb to Iran.
Russia just delayed the deal.
Also US is lifting sanctions on Iran and releasing billions to them and permitting them to continue supporting Hama, Hezbollah and the Houthis. yet you rail against Russia?
Laura,
did you scream and holler when the US carpet bombed various countries since the 1960s ’til very recently?
I am sure you didn’t.
Is it because you think that the US has the right to do anything it wants including to bomb everyone into democracy?
BTW, do you still have to wear your muzzle?
Do you enjoy it?
How many doses of the “vaccine” have you already taken?
Have you enjoyed it?
After all, you live in the freest country in the world!
Have you enjoyed watching the Canadian truckers beaten, robbed of their trucks, money, their insurance cancelled, and them themselves arrested because their democratic government got fed up with their peaceful protest?
Among those giving iran the bomb are your Russian friends. You’re a damn fool, Ted.
As for Steven, you’re sick in the mind to defend this 21st century hitler or stalin. Pick your poison.
Zelenski, a Schwab’s baby!
Is Putin shooting down Wokism/international liberalism/Party of Davos?
@Laura
Do not include me when you write
It is the globalist that are givind the bomb to Iran, not the right.
Not a dime’s worth of difference between the right and left anymore. The marxists and fascists BOTH hate America and blame America first, even as putin is the only one dropping bombs on a country. But at least we’ve always known the left hates America. However those wretched souls on the far right only pretended to be pro-American. We are the TRUE patriots, we Reagan conservatives and constitutional conservatives. Those others are fascists who are fine with war as long as its Russia waging it, or Iran. But defending against their genocidal wars amounts to ESCALATION. They can go straight to hell along with putin.
The putin-loving fascists dare call themselves “America firsters”. Sure, just like the America First hitler supporters in the 30’s.
The same right wingers in America supporting putin are ok with iran getting nukes rather than confronting iran. They accuse those who want to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons, as “escalating” war. If you think these isolationists and neo-fascists are going to sing a different tune when it comes to Israel if its existence is on the line, you are kidding yourselves. I read their posts.
So does russia vote in the UN with the terrorists against Israel.
