  1. @Edgar I’ll have to look up “The Maggie.” Paul Douglas is one of my favoriite actors. Unfortunately, he died shortly after making this film in his late 50s. Billly Wilder had just offered him the role that went to Fred McMurray in “The Apartment” starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley Maclaine.

  2. @SEBASTIEN-

Yes I knew she was Jewish, at least by birth, I also knew about the movie, |I recall when it came out. The name didn’t give me any interest in seeing it. I liked Holliday, but at that time didn’t care for Douglas.

He was of the Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart era, and it seems to me that he was always in a supporting role.. I was surprised that they were casting him as a leading man when he would be close to 50.. He had very heavy features, and not leading man type, I thought.,

But he was a good actor. He was in a very good movie that now is forgotten and youtube shows only a couple of minutes of it. The name was “The Maggie”. Alex MacKenzie was excellent, actually made the whole hilarious movie into a howl. Reminded me in a way of “Whisky Galore”, if you recall that. (I also have the book of W.G, which I read several times, laughing each time)..

  3. @Edgar It’s by George S. Kauffman and Howard Teichman. and Abe Burrows. Based on the stage play by Kauffman and Teichman. Judy Holiday and Paul Douglas. By the way, I’m sure you know Judy Holiday was Jewish.

  4. @SEBASTIEN-

I didn’t know that the Solid Gold Cadillac was a “Classic”… although a comedy.

I really liked Judy Holliday, SHE was a classic comedienne if you like.

I didn’t see this film but she made ” Born Yesterday” one of the funniest films I recall seeing. I saw that one 2-3 times. Brod Crawford was also great in his role. I though Bill Holden was a flop, not suited for his part. .

  5. What could save America more than the destruction of the Democratic Party .I can think of nothing more suitable-and less likely. The Labour Party ruled Israel for many years, and only it’s “chaverim” could get any kind of decent job, Corruption was the order of the day.

But it was finally overthrown, but nobody stamped on it’s head, so it still lingers around. So would the Democratic Party in the US. People en masse are, when one really thinks of it, basically unlearned and stupid about politicians. They believe what they hear. Same in Israel.
