“Trump, the Mideast Conflict and the Jordanian Option” – Hillel Frisch

The Jordanian Option being discussed here, in Feb 2017, is the one where Jordan becomes the sovereign of Areas A and B in Judea and Samaria as opposed to my version where the Arabs of A and B are incentivized to move to Jordan.

Frisch points out that the creation of the PA resulted in $400 million of the aid which Jordan was getting ended up going to the PA and that’s just the American aid. The EU about the same. If the PA dies this aid will go back to Jordan for a time. Secondly Israel collects about $800 million in VAT. Jordan could earn this money. Finally, the money going to UNRWA could also be redirected to Jordan.

Also Palestinian industry in J&S is unable to sell to Jordan or the rest of the arab world. Jordanian businesses prevent it. They don’t want the competition. Finally the fact that 150,000 Palestinians work in Israel causes wages to go up to double what they are in Jordan.

In my version of the Jordanian Option, we incentivize the Palestinians to emmigrate to Jordan. This will be good for Jordanian businesses. It will also enable the Palestinian businesses to sell to Jordanians and the rest of the Arab world. Their wages would drop in half but living costs are much lower. Jordan would then collect the VAT. Lots to discuss here.

Netanyahu favours the status quo which incluedes keeping a lid on settlement expansion. He is opposed by Bennett who favours expansion.

  1. @ Colorado Rose:

I agree 100% with what both Bear Klein, and you are saying. To have mortal enemies next door is bad enough, actually worse than that, but to have them in your living room, is sheer mishugas of the worst kind.

I’ve been saying this for years. Jews can NEVER trust an Arab, even a close friend since childhood, to eventually do anything but one day wake up thinking that he’s a bad Muslim, go to his mosque, take a knife, and go out to kill a Jew. Simplified comment of course, but we have unending examples of just this very same thing.

The neighbours and family are ALWAYS surprised, because he was ‘such a nice man”

  2. I am with you Bear. The people that make these kinds of solutions are people that 1, do not love Israel and 2, act like like the muslims are normal people and 3, when their plan spectacularly fails, will walk away without bearing any of the consequences.

Somehow it seem de rigueur that Israel pay a heavy price for any peace deal. That Israel should give up land that is already her’s. It is an idiotic plan and will fail in it’s infancy.

The only plan that has a snowball’s chance of succeeding is the one Ted is promoting. I hope is happens in my lifetime.

God Bless America, God Bless Israel

  3. No Jordan west of the Jordan River. Pals can go east of the River. This is a formula for how to make things less secure for Israel. Status quo is still better and more stable that it would be to put and its soliders in the midst of the Israeli population. I sometimes believe people making this dumb proposals, do NOT know where where areas A/B are on a map. A foreign army adjacent to Israeli population centers is idiotic. We fought wars with these people and only have a cold peace because of defeating them multiple times. Why would anyone in their right mind make Israelis vulnerable to Arab soldiers.
