Pence is an evangelical, a conservative, a Tea Party favorite and very pro-Israel
Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick, according to multiple media outlets.
Trump campaign aides on Twitter said the presumptive GOP presidential nominee has yet to make a decision, but separate media reports said the conservative governor has emerged as Trump’s choice.
Pence had been on a final shortlist for the spot along with former Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.) and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, according to Trump. He was also the overwhelming favorite of GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
Roll Call first reported that Pence was Trump’s pick, citing a source with direct knowledge of the decision.
CBS’s Major Garrett also reported that Pence would get the nod from Trump, and The Indianapolis Star confirmed the news a bit later.
In picking Pence, Trump is selecting a candidate who could improve his conservative bona fides and help appeal to the party’s base.
Pence is a former House GOP leader who served in the chamber from 2001 to 2013.
He would fit Trump’s need for someone who could work with Congress from the executive branch, and he would also do much to shore up Trump’s relationships with social conservatives and GOP officials.
“What he needs is someone who is credible who can help him govern if he is successful,” Senate Republican Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas) told The Hill earlier this week. “There’s nobody with more interesting ideas in Washington than Newt Gingrich, but that’s a different issue than actually governing day-to-day. I don’t see that as his strong suit.”
Minutes before the Pence news broke, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) offered praise for his former House colleague, though he said he had no idea whom Trump would choose.
“It’s no secret. I’m a big fan of Mike Pence’s. We’re very good friends. I have very high regard for him,” Ryan told reporters at his weekly news briefing. “I hope that he picks a good movement conservative. Clearly Mike is one of those.”
Trump’s campaign has been seeking to build toward a Friday announcement, and aides downplayed reports that Trump had selected Pence.

Voting for Clinton would qualify as an act of violence, I think.

you are incorrect.. the president may ban any group or individual he considers to be a danger…. there is a law passed in the ’50’s
yamit82 Said:
I have a similar suspicion… because he was about to get rid of the final group of generals and consolidate his power during a period where he is not as popular. the fact that so many men came in a short time was suspicious AND that no one shot them approaching. This event will enable erdogan to do everything he wants to get more powers, keep himself in power, get rid of the final opposition. These days one must always immediately consider a false flag as a viable and logical option.

I am voting for Trump and was violently opposed to Cruz. I was ready to vote for Clinton if Cruz got the nomination. I see nothing to seriously object to Pence. People say he has been pro-amnesty, which might scare me off, but I see no evidence of that. Of course you cannot restrict immigration based on religion, else we might have been able to do that to the Catholics. The only thing we need to do is restrict migration from countries that are supporting terrorism and that would be as good as a ban on Muslim immigration. I don’t think Trump would have taken him on if he thought that Pence was some kind locus for TPP and the rest. I trust Trumps decision on the matter, so far.
I think this is a mistake… although this brings more gop establishment on board Trump won the gop primary in spite of their opposition. This will not help him in the general election, this will hurt, he does not need to appeal to the right of himself and the gop establishment.. he needs to appeal to the blue collar dems and the independents. Having a GOP establishment conservative as his veep is an error…. if Trump is incapacitated Pence will be president….people voting not yet having made up their mind might be dissuaded due to voiting for the possibility of the opposite of all trumps attraction. The deciding factor in the general election would have been the independents, undecided and blue collar dems…. Pence stands for what they dont want whereas Trump stood for what they wanted… now they might not trust trump to carry through on the TPP, etc.
This was a very shortsighted decision whose only value is at the convention but risks the general election.

That’s good news. But I wonder, where is Islam in all of this? I hear the military has a new constitution, which suggests, maybe, no Sharia. But we will have to wait and see.
Sounds a little like what got the Muslim Brotherhood out of power in Egypt, no?
If erdogan is asking citizens to take to the streets he has probably lost control
On the other hand, I have not heard nor seen further military broadcasts and the military curfew appears to be ignored.
If the military wins it will be good

HB, I didn’t intend to cast a negative impression about Governor Mike Pence or about American Evangelical Christianity. In fact, I am certain that his selection as Donald Trump’s vice presidential nominee will help Mr Trump defeat Hillary Clinton in the coming national election.
But my studies of history have taught me a Jew’s caution in over-reliance of the good will of Christians when their expectations about converting us en-masse to their religion fail to bear fruit.
Martin Luther, one of the fathers of Protestant Christianity, fully expected the Jews of Germany to join his Christian reformation, which broke the power of the Roman Catholic Church all across western and central Europe. When the Jews failed his expectations, he turned against them with a mood hardly seen again in Europe until the rise of modern antisemitism in the late 19th century.
Religious systems that claim or target dominion over the entire human race are always problematic and often dangerous to national religions such as Judaism.
Jews get along with those people as best we can. But we must never forget the potential dangers of unrequited expectations they sometimes have of us.

I left my thoughts there, thank you.
I think Pence thought those reforemed synagogues were churches OR the Forward ran out of serious news for Jews like hillary having a muslim brotherhood terror org connected advisor named Huma; Hillary taking 100 mill donations from muslims, etc etc etc
looks like their mogen david fairy tales lost wind so they needed another red herring to distract dumb Jews searching for irrelevant trivia.

Pence is being accused of anti-Semitism already.

You sound pensive about Pence.
I ponder on how the Evangelical Christian world will think of us once they become convinced that real Jews never ever will regard their savior as anything other than a quarrelsome Jewish itinerant savant who stirred up trouble with the priests of the great temple…
And as a result of that behavior, got himself crucified, followed by the midnight theft of his body for purposes of creating a legend that would turn an itinerant Jewish preacher into a Hellenist god of a typically Olympian polytheistic religion.
They don’t say so now, but chances are, they may turn downright spiteful. Like spurned would-be lovers.
So don’t lean too heavily on the Jesus folks, and keep your distance even more so from the Mary folks.

HW Bush was Reagan’s VP. And then what happened? Eight years of W Bush.
This would represent Trump’s first major decision. Trump did better on these matters than McCain and Romney. My prediction: Trump will throw consistent strikes, up to the election, which he will win.
There will be nice positions for Christie and Newt. Very good.
Pence? remind me of what Al Gore once said…
Mother had 3 children. One became a famous lawyer, the other a famous doctor, the third became a US vise president, not to be heard from anymore…
Pence may help with some true conservatives who have not yet decided to vote Trump because Pence is an across the board conservative based on his long congressional voting record.
Pence has been pro Israel for a long time just like many of the evangelicals.
As the Veep is an understudy for the pres and becomes pres if the pres is incapacitated or dies…. I am disappointed… I do not want a US president who is driven by ideology.. I prefer a pragmatic and practical person in the office.
but he will likely support Israel
