Bibi is far from actually being the tough guy that has become his image. The EU needs to be told to stay the hell out of Israel’s internal affairs. What is really undemocratic is foreign governments undermining the policies of Israel’s democratically elected government by funding NGO’s with ideas that have no popular support amongst the Israeli public. To outlaw foreign government funding of Israeli NGO’s is not undemocratic. Foreigners do not have the right to attempt to influence the policies of the Israeli government. Only Israeli citizens have that right. In other words Israel could only be considered a true democracy by allowing foreign governmnents a direct role in the nation’s policy-making? Once again the Europeans demand of Israel an absurd standard that they would never allow for themselves. If Europe doesn’t allow foreign governments to fund groups inside Europe, does that harm the standing of European countries as democracies? Why always the double standard when it comes to Israel?
First of all, more power to Avigdor Lieberman; may he do as he says he will. Secondly, IF any settlements are actually “illegal”, then perhaps the government that declared them “illegal” ought to declare them “legal”. That is, after all, the sort of thing governments exist for.
