The UN, US and EU want to bypass Res 242

By Ted Belman

The Times of Israel reports that “UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon “will be engaging the new government to explore realistic options for a return to meaningful negotiations towards a two-state solution within a reasonable timeframe.”

How ridiculous. The essence of Res 242 and the Oslo Accords required all final issues to be negotiated. The current moves are an attempt to bypass negotiations and impose a solution.

The PLO and the PA accepted these terms and must live by them. If they aren’t prepared to accept what Israel might offer them, there will be no deal. So for them its either the status quo as changed from time to time by Israel building in Area C and ultimately extending Israel law to Area C (this is tantamount to annexation) or cutting a deal so they have a say in the final outcome. Of course it will be far less than they demand. I have no doubt that they will refuse to cut a deal.

That being the case Israel will continue to put facts on the ground which suit their interests.

The US, the UN and the EU all want to bypass Res 242 and the Oslo Accords and instead to impose a solution involving ’67 lines plus swaps and the division of Jerusalem. This they have no right to do.

As a footnote I would remind you how it was a pre-condition to signing the Oslo Accords, that the PLO and the PA accept Res 242 requiring negotiations. The US was very forceful in getting them to agree. Now they are taking the position that Res 242 is irrelevant.

  1. If the West now thinks 242 should be scrapped, there is no reason for Israel to put faith in any security guarantees it could offer.

It wants to cut Israel down to size, not to mediate between it and its adversaries; a true mediator does not take sides or prejudge the outcome of negotiations.

The West, to put a long story short, is not a friend of Israel and is not seeking to bring peace to the Middle East.

  2. The REAL goal was never a compromise; it was the final destruction of the Jewish state – so reduction by false steps. And the unwritten completion of the Final Solution. Obama said; Israel to 1948 armistice lines, 7 million Jew-hating PLO and Hamas Arabs into Israel proper, Billions in compensation to the Arabs, ALL Jews forcibly removed from those areas; Billions in AID and in arms to the Arabs; Jerusalem and Temple Mount to the Arabs. So, all compromises and deals agreed to by Israel are useless. It is like negotiating with the Gestapo, e.g. “Let me see your documents. Now you don’t any documents. Die.” Falling in line, the EU, the Vatican, the US, the UN, to my guess all the nations except for Canada.

the reason they want to bypass it is that they have discovered that under 242 the PLO/PA have not one shred of a claim to land in YS. the land interests discussed in 242 are between the belligerent parties of Israel, Egypt, Jordan and Syria. The land dispute in 242 with Egypt and Jordan have been fully satisfied with internationally recognized boundaries at the Jordan river. The call for withdrawal is not only satisfied as over 90% has been withdrawn from but also that withdrawal does not confer rights or benefits to a ta party with no land claim under 242. Withdrawal is in relation to the acquiring of land, from a nation, through war and that dispute in YS was with Jordan who has been fully satisfied. Jordan abandoned its claim and therefore no more land dispute. As for the canard that jordan gave its interest to the PLO I see no document to that effect, it is not legal without consent of the parties to 242, Jordan demonstrated it was PR BS when they subsequently made no reference in their treaty with Israel wrt LAND to pals. The pals only interest in 242 is the “solution to the refugee problem” If Israel should abandon its claim and withdraw why would anyone assume the land then belongs to the pals: in area C the jews are the majority and if principles of self determination were applied the Jews would get it, notwithstanding prior rights of jewish settlement in international law.
242 is a red herring, pals have no land interest derived or aquired, from 242.

the only thing being demonstrated by the UN , the EU and the US is that ALL have breached international law to which they signed or guaranteed, NONE can be relied upon to fulfill their agreements with the Jews, ALL demonstrated a willingness and propensity to swindle the Jews and appease the arabs……NONE can be trusted!

the only agreement left is Oslo which appears to be in tatters and only moves forward as either party desires. therefore, everyone is back to square one. There are no agreed premises of negotiation: therefore negotiate or dont for its own sake.
