Gadi Taub and Mike Doran see Israeli politics returning with a vengeance. The Israeli left, with an assist from elements in the military, is promoting a campaign depicting “settler violence” in the West Bank as the impediment to a two-state solution. Meanwhile the Israeli Supreme Court has nullified an amendment to a semi-constitutional Basic Law, thus taking for itself veto power over the formation of what Israel has for a constitution. The campaign against the settlers and the move to overturn the law both target the right. These developments come as the Biden administration pushes Prime Minister Netanyahu to ride roughshod over his rightwing coalition partners who oppose the return of the Palestinian Authority to Gaza.

Gadi Taub is an author, historian, and op-ed columnist. His Hebrew bestseller The Rise of Antidemocratic Liberalism: Israel, the United States, and the West is being translated into English.

  1. A powerful but terrifying analysis of the lies and distortions of the Israeli left and its supporters in the media and IDF top brass to disarm Israeli “settlers” of weapons
thry need to defend themselves, by claiming that “settler violence” is on the rise, According to Taub and Doran, this is an outright lie. The goal of the leftists is to suppoty the “two state solution” and turn over Judea and Samaria to the Ramallah regime. The perpetrators of this outright lie are feeding these lies to the Americans, which is one of the reasons that the Biden-Blinken administration is so obsessed with “settler violence.”

  2. “Survivors Turn Right: “How much hate do you have to have?” (Judean Rose)”

“On October 7 at 6:30 a.m., Meir Adoni [died]. A minute later, a new Meir was born. A Meir that repents his sin. A Meir who is ashamed that he was part of the delusion of the delusional Left who don’t understand that we are surrounded by extreme Islam monsters who have no interest in peace and normalcy, and only want to burn us alive.

He ended by asking forgiveness from Israel and God for having identified as left-wing. [1]

The kibbutzim where the slaughter occurred, by all accounts, lean to the political left. Many or even most of the kibbutz survivors would tell you they were happy when the settlers were expelled from Gush Katif. They thought the expulsion would bring peace. That was their ideology.

And their belief was unshaken, even when there were sirens and rockets and days and nights in safe rooms. They wouldn’t stop educating their children in the ways of peace. They kept on helping to transport sick children from Gaza into Israel for treatment in Israeli hospitals. The good farmers believed that in the end, goodness would prevail and there would be war no more.

Now in the aftermath of October 7, there is deep disillusionment. “We are the peaceful people,” they had thought. “No one would harm us,” as if pureness of heart were a kind of shield.

They couldn’t have imagined a people so cruel. No one could. Only what happened on October 7 could have broken the hope that peace would yet win out with the people of Gaza. The survivors now understand that Gaza is filled with monsters, and that there is no possibility of peace with the “Palestinian” people. That about-face from left to right, is a common theme in the emerging survivor testimonies…”

  3. While this is worrisome coming at this time, it is also not surprising. The Israeli left like the globalists in general, are going to cling to every bit of power they think they have for as long as they can, no matter who gets hurt in the process.

The Israeli people have shifted to the right of the political spectrum, and that includes many of those progressives from the kibbutzim in southern Israel who viewed religious Israelis or “settlers” as the enemy of peace.

Now most of the Israeli people know the enemy of peace is Hamas, the PA, and the radicalized Palestinian people who want to get rid of every Jew and have all the land from the river to the sea to themselves.

So this is the last gasp of people who are bitter about the turn in Israeli politics that has taken place since Oslo. One thing they do not seem able to do is consider the possibility that their policies are directly responsible for the rightward shift in the Israeli people. Their policies are soft on holding Hamas, the PA, and the Palestinian people as a whole to account for their record of continuous crimes against the people of Israel. They have coddled both Hamas and the PA and would want to continue to do this, being blind to the reality that they are coddling murderers.

I don’t know how they justify to themselves their policies which have failed to keep Israel safe and secure, and frankly I don’t really care how they lie to themselves so as not to take responsibility for all the harms that have come to Israel because of their failed policies.

What seems certain to me is that the Israeli people will continue to insist on national security policies and procedures that work to keep Israelis safe. If that means revisiting the Supreme Court judicial reform at some point in the future, so be it. But the people of Israel are not going to allow a rogue Supreme Court to undermine their safety and security and they will vote out of power any leader who tries to cover for the Supreme Court’s brazen arrogation of powers that do not belong to it.

Israelis are not going to go back to the status quo ante 7/10, when people heading up defense and security agencies covered up actionable human intelligence rather than design a plan for dealing with it. They won’t be willing to tolerate heads of defense that fire individual officers who bring actionable intelligence to their desks rather than use the intelligence to plan to protect innocent Israelis.

The Israeli people just will not be willing to go back to riots and attempted coups by bitter ex- politicians who can’t stand to lose elections and can’t face up to why they can’t get elected. Been there done that.

In America, the elites constitute about 0.01% of Americans. It is probably similar in Israel. It is going to get very difficult for the elites when they realize the vast majority of Americans or Israelis reject their policies completely.

You can see the attempt to control Americans that has led to massive voter fraud in the last presidential election and multiple legal attempts to disqualify and indict the leading presidential candidate.

These are things those in control can make happen, but what they cannot do is control or change the minds of the people.

Israel must focus on regaining and restoring military deterrence, and is doing well with this, while at the same time, Israel is succeeding in destroying Hamas, despite the continuous verbal pressure from the US to back off. Israel’s handling of Gaza and targeted assassinations have been brilliant and have put Iran in a quandary.

I hope the Israeli military forces continue their successful work for as long as is needed to restore national security for the Jewish people.
