The Palestinians Continue Their International Campaign to Indict IDF Soldiers

By Shurat HaDin

The Palestinians are frustrated with their delayed efforts to have Israel indicted for war crimes in the International Court of Justice (ICC) in The Hague. So  their new strategy is to turn to different UN bodies to try and put pressure on ICC to prosecute the Jewish State and force its hand.

This week the UN’s decolonization committee in New York adopted a draft resolution submitted by the Palestinians requesting an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice on Israel’s occupation of the West Bank. The Palestinian proposal calls on the ICJ  to  “urgently weigh in on Israel’s prolonged occupation, settlement and annexation of the Palestinian territory”. It labels Israel’s pro-ported illegal conduct a violation of  the Palestinians’ right to self-determination. The UN General Assembly votes against Israel in New  York

Normally it’s the UN’s Security Counsel that must refer matters to the ICJ. This new Palestinian resolution is an attempted end run around the UN’s ordinary operating procedures.

A Palestinian official, Riyad al-Maliki, said in a statement that 98 countries supported the resolution, 52 abstained and 17 voted against. He called the resolution a “diplomatic and legal breakthrough that will open a new era for holding Israel accountable for its war crimes”.

The Palestinians are unrelenting in their efforts to drag Israel and the IDF before the ICC. It’s is not yet clear how the ICJ will react to this new Palestinian action against the Jewish State. The US, which promised to act more aggressively in the World Body on Israel’s behalf did not seem to make any effort to thwart this new campaign.

According to Shurat HaDin President Nitsana Darshan-Leitner: “The Palestinians’ campaign against Israel in the UN and ICC, which plainly violates the Oslo Accords has no end.  They think they found the soft underbody to go after Israel and the IDF and indict our soldiers.  At the same time Washington, their biggest donor, is unbelievably planning on transferring $500 million in new foreign aid to them. There should be a suspension of all funds until these UN resolutions are withdrawn.”

  1. Israel has been procrastinating (Daniel Pipes suggested that IL should defeat thoroughly and totally the Pal for their own good) and giving life line after life line to its tormentors, (“the Pal”)!
