The Ohio senator, rumored as a possible Trump running mate, asserts pro-Israel bona fides in front of an anti-Israel crowd

By a long time supporter.

This is important, surprising, and encouraging.

JD Vance is one of the more likely people that Trump would choose as VP running mate.

He is on record as being against spending money on the Ukraine war. He has not spoken much about his views on Israel and has generally been seen by Israel supporters as someone to be wary of.

The Quincy Institute is a conservative think tank that stresses isolationism, and its members are generally not friendly to Israel (That’s putting it mildly. John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt, authors of ‘The Israeli Lobby’ are scholars there.) They are affiliated with ‘The American Conservative’, a magazine (print and online) that was started by Pat Buchanan and now has among its Board of Directors one Tucker Carlson.

Read what he said there. Anybody can go in front of AIPAC, mouth some platitudes and must-have catch phrases, and milk the crowd for applause. Even Obama could do that.
In this case we have a guy who does not want foreign entanglements going in front of a group that especially does not want a friendly entanglement with Israel, and arguing in favour of support. Not because  Tel Aviv is like Silicon valley but with a better beach or that they have a gay pride parade, but because there are a) huge strategic and military advantages of their allyship and to a  lesser extent, also b) the Jesus link to the land. He’s putting ‘America First’ and support of Israel together in front of an audience that doesn’t.
