The Media’s shameful double standard on Islamophobia and antisemitism

By Daniel Greenfield, FPM

Earlier in July, the Davis Islamic Center claimed that someone had thrown torn pages from a Koran into the mosque. This was part of the extensive media coverage lavished on the claim by the Sacramento branch of CAIR, an Islamist hate group with a history of support for terrorism that they had been mailed a Koran dipped in pork lard.

The AP ran the story. It was picked up by, among others, the Washington Post and Newsweek. There was plenty of outrage and much handwringing.

Then a video emerged of an Imam at the the Davis Islamic Center praying for the extermination of the Jews.

A Callifornia imam delivered a ferociously anti-Semitic sermon Friday from his podium at the Islamic Center of Davis, calling for Allah to “annihilate” the Jews “down to the very last one.”

“Oh Allah, liberate the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the filth of the Jews. Oh Allah, destroy those who closed the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Oh Allah, show us the black day that You inflict upon them, and the wonders of Your ability. Oh Allah, count them one by one and annihilate them down to the very last one. Do not spare any of them.”

It’s a call for genocide. And you would think that would be more serious than a torn Koran or a Koran in lard.

’ The Prophet Muhammad said: ‘Judgment Day will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews, and the Jews hide behind stones and trees, and the stones and the trees say: Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah…’ They will not say: Oh Egyptian, oh Palestinian, oh Jordanian, oh Syrian, oh Afghan, oh Pakistani. The Prophet Muhammad says that the time will come, the Last Hour will not take place until the Muslims fight the Jews.

This is standard Islamic theology which is extremely anti-Semitic and violently racist. That’s why it’s not discussed in public.

But the media has notably little interest in the video. Now these are not allegations or claims. There is a video up. And you can’t get the AP or the Washington Post or any of the usual outlets to touch the story with a ten foot pole. Islamophobia is a serious problem. But Islamic anti-Semitism gets blacklisted.

The only outlets covering the Imam’s remarks (rather than the mosque’s whitewashing of them) are either conservative or Jewish. And that says it all.

The local outlets which reported the Davis Mosque’s past claims have little interest in doing anything except running cover-ups.

Laura Keene at the Davis Enterprise has an extensive writeup quoting the mosque’s people, with no quotes from counterterrorism experts or anyone critical of anti-Semitism.

Imam Ammar Shahin says brief excerpts of his nearly hourlong remarks were taken out of context and edited by “an agenda-driven organization” to appear inflammatory.

“It was clear to all who listened to the entire sermon that Imam Shahin was not calling towards anti-Semitism nor towards violence against any religion,” Shahin and the Islamic Center’s executive board said in a written statement released Tuesday morning.

In what context is calling for the mass murder of Jews appropriate?

But Shanin and the Islamic Center have some lovely taquiya carefully calculated for a Christian target audience.

In the statement released this morning, Shahin and the Islamic Center board offered a detailed summary of the full sermon, which they say described “the theological issue regarding the apocalyptic battle between Jesus and the Antichrist,” or between good and evil, and not against any particular group.

“When people believe in Jesus and hold on to the truth, God will support them. This was the purpose of citing the prophetic tradition,” the statement says. “In the context of the full sermon, it becomes clear that the theme of the sermon was against oppression, and not against Jews or any religion.”

Except that Islam believes Jesus will return to break the cross and wage war on Christians. But let’s not let little details like this get in the way.

The latest outrage is whitewashed and covered up. And then it’s on to more handwringing over a torn Koran.

And here is the media’s double standard and the left’s double standard. Islamophobia is a serious problem, but Islamic calls to murder Jews isn’t.

Meanwhile here’s a fresh batch from Memri and the Islamic Center of Riverside, California. Expect the media to cover it sometime between never and doomsday.
