Howe speaks about 80-yeae cycles that nations go through, cycles keyed to the length of a human life. In the US, our cycles have been:
1. The American Revolution (ended in the 1780s)
2. The Civil War (ended in the 1860s)
3. WWII (ended in the 1940s)
4. The current conflict (ending in the 2020s)
Israel has gone through the same cycles:
1. 1780s: partition of Poland; “the Enlightenment”
2, 1860s: Archaeological reawakening of Israel; City of David discovered
3. 1940s: Holocaust and birth of Medinat Israel
4. What you have now.
The ends of these cycles were times of re-ordering of structures, such as countries and constitutions — always after a time of world-wide conflict.
Case in point:
2. Crimean War 1853-56
3. Battle of Kursk 1953 (80 years later)
4. Russian invasion of Crimea 2014 (~80 years later)
Israel became a state in 1948. Eighty years later will be 1928; and right now, there is talk of constitutional reform. ‘Tis the season…
