Supreme Court Leak Doomed Justice Roberts Plans to Save Roe

A new and strange report is out about the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court (SCOTUS), John Roberts, that claims he was secretly trying to pressure the other sitting justices to not overturn the historic Roe V Wade decision in what is seen as both the left and the right, as a complete betrayal of the moderate position the leader of the SCOTUS claims to favor.

The new report is causing the left to claim all sorts of new things about the nature of the May 2 Politico leak, which ignited a well-prepared mob of street activists to stalk and attack members of SCOTUS.

Conservatives have long scrutinized Republican Roberts for having left-leaning proclivities.  Roberts’s opinions have inflamed Americans by favoring the far left at crucial times when he could have helped save the Republic. It has long been suspected that Roberts, behind the scenes, is a different person than he is on paper.

Early week reports in CNN and Business Insider claimed that Roberts privately tried to sway other justices not to overturn Roe v. Wade and that his attempts were destroyed by the unprecedented May 2 draft leak pushed out to Politico.

Roberts is being reported as wanting the other justices to uphold Roe v. Wade, and CNN says he was working privately to undermine their opinions.

“BREAKING REPORT: CNN claims Chief Justice of the United States John Roberts WORKED UP UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE in Attempt to Flip Conservative Justices on Roe v. Wade Decision,” Chuck Callesto reported on Twitter.

CNN, Yahoo News, and Business Insider confirmed with their reports that ‘based on inside sources, who the media knew was familiar with Roberts’ conversations,’ someone talked to the media at the time of the draft and said that Roberts had already been working to persuade Kavanaugh and Barrett to change their initial votes on the case to maintain Roe.

No names were given about these inside sources.

The story goes that the Politico article derailed Roberts’ plans to keep some of Roe intact, “lifting the veil on what was typically a private deliberation,” CNN reported.

“The draft opinion only cemented the justices’ original votes and increased the urgency of the court to release its final decision without any changes,” according to CNN’s report on the matter.

Media reports said that the justices became aware that Politico obtained the draft opinion at the end of April — a week before it was released — and waited anxiously until its publication the evening of May 2- proving that the court was under siege from radical leftists who were attempting to shape events to change their ruling.

The media leak reportedly upset Roberts, who quickly released a statement in response, calling it a “betrayal of the confidences of the Court intended to undermine the integrity of our operations,” but that it “will not succeed.”

At the time, people familiar with Roberts had said that above all else, Roberts had authentic anger about the nature of the leak because he saw it as damaging the court, which was confusing to many people because he had never been much of a firebrand before.

“Roberts had reportedly been opposed to a complete reversal of Roe, seeking to maintain at least the core tenet that women have the constitutional right to abortion. Instead, the chief justice, a conservative who’s sat on the court since 2005, sought to eliminate Roe’s viability line, which allowed abortion until roughly 24 weeks of pregnancy. The case before the court concerned a Mississippi law that sought to ban abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy, which Roberts was open to uphold, according to multiple news reports at the time,” Yahoo reported.

“Though Roberts’ so-called middle ground approach failed. On June 24, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization to overturn Roe, along with a subsequent 1992 abortion decision, Planned Parenthood v. Casey.

Alito, the author of the opinion, declared that Roe was “egregiously wrong from the start” and “the States may regulate abortion” now. In the wake of the ruling, a slew of Republican-led states has banned abortion, with more restrictions to come.

Roberts ultimately supported the conservative majority’s decision to uphold the Mississippi law but joined the court’s three liberals against the decision to toss out Roe. In a concurring opinion, the chief justice wrote that gutting the federal right to an abortion is “a serious jolt to the legal system,” Yahoo reported.

“Both the Court’s opinion and the dissent display a relentless freedom from doubt on the legal issue that I cannot share,” Roberts wrote.

A representative for the Supreme Court has not returned calls from the media who inquired about the situation.

There was some consensus on the left that Roberts leaked the new story himself to keep the violent left happy. The left sees Roberts as trying too hard to be ‘moderate’ and by the right as trying too hard to be ‘moderate.’

“John Roberts is now trying to launder his reputation by leaking that he supposedly tried to stop Roe v. Wade from being overturned. But the media is falsely presenting this as if it were coming from some unbiased anonymous inside sourcing,” the left-leaning Palmer report wrote.

Leftist media pundits are using the propaganda that Roberts wanted to save Roe V Wade as a cover for claiming the leaker was a ‘right winger”, which would be a complete reversal from what has been reported about the leak up to this point.

Leave it to the left to come up with this kind of political theater:
