Settler campaign: ‘Build, Bibi, build!’

Yair Altman, YNET

Settlers are slated to launch a large-scale campaign against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday under the banner “Build, Bibi, build!,” Ynet learned.

Following the end of the settlement construction freeze, settler leaders hoped building in Judea and Samaria will be fully resumed, at least in the major settlement blocks – those meant to remain under Israeli sovereignty as part of a future peace deal – but Netanyahu has not approved a single tender since his election and some describe him as “worse than Barak and Olmert.”

During a Likud faction meeting last Monday, the prime minister explained why he is loath to approve construction in the West Bank. He said the international community was pressuring him and that he was trying to maintain the existing communities.

What motivated the settlers to launch the new campaign were concerns over a “bold political move” sparked by reports of a new peace plan the prime minister is slated to unveil in the near future.

  1. This just in: 45-year Likud acivist tells Netanyahu to get out of the kitchen

HCQ, while much of Israel is secular, most Israelis are traditional to various degrees. If you look at Manhigut’s platform, they have no interest in sending out modesty patrol police, nor do they advocate fining Jewish who sell leavened products on Passover. Manhigut’s platform deals with the present Jewish reality, as imperfect as it may be.

If you want to understand how Zionism’s foundations had nothing to do with Judaism, watch this very lengthy video. There are some counter-arguments but overall, this is what it was originally damningly about.

  2. But it’s not just Moshe, it’s the Manhigut Yehudit faction as a whole and platform in particular.

It’s a great platform; a platform for the true conservative but it’s religious overtones will no doubt enflame the detractors en masse. Israel is primarily secular, correct?

What previous Israeli Prime Minister based his mandate on Hashem’s plans for Israel to be G-d’s cherished nation in His land? Not even coming close was Menachem Begin, whom I admired for his simple Jewishness but it was not enough to be up to the task.

That’s true. Feiglin advocates religious or spiritual zionism as opposed to the mainstreamed secular brand. How Zionism has remained divided from it’s true, religious roots for as long as it has…stiffnecked and haughty is right. There are people who actually think Israel is a theocracy NOW.

  3. HCQ, to answer your question: yes. But it’s not just Moshe, it’s the Manhigut Yehudit faction as a whole and platform in particular.

What previous Israeli Prime Minister based his mandate on Hashem’s plans for Israel to be G-d’s cherished nation in His land? Not even coming close was Menachem Begin, whom I admired for his simple Jewishness but it was not enough to be up to the task.

I have no faith in the electoral system in general. However, what’s defeating Israel no less than the politicians are the voters. Should a day ever come when some event will wake Israelis up and open their eyes, all of a sudden those votes might accomplish something very good and important.

There is not much else one can practically do at the moment.

  4. Shy Guy,
Have you so much faith in Moshe Feiglin’s ability to resist what so many others before him have failed to resist?
Do you even see the point of voting anymore? I know I’m questioning it.

I’m a fan of Dan. He can speak in that broken english of his, complete with that dimpled cheek, all day long, because I love it when he publicly states the exact opposite of what the career apologists and propagandists all say.

Take King David’s advice from Psalms 146:

3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.
4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his dust; in that very day his thoughts perish.
5 Happy is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God.

It’ll make the “I told you so” easier to chew when the time comes.

  6. Danon has his rocketing career to think of. When something more tempting will eventually come his way, previous principles will be ignored.

Seeing how Israeli pols are still, first and foremost, politicians your skepticism is natural. That being said, I will defer to your skepticism more because you’re Israeli but I still reserve the right to hold onto my bias. I’m a fan of Dan. He can speak in that broken english of his, complete with that dimpled cheek, all day long, because I love it when he publicly states the exact opposite of what the career apologists and propagandists all say.

  7. Both. Liberman mimics his own unique garbage: 2 states with land swaps of pre-67 Israeli land with Arab populations, like Wadi Arah.

Danon has his rocketing career to think of. When something more tempting will eventually come his way, previous principles will be ignored.

Moshe Feiglin cannot do anything if the people, who should rationally vote for what Manhigut Yehudit stands for, bicker and vote for one of several splinter parties.

    And here we are. Nowhere.

  8. As they saying goes:

“There’s a sucker born every minute.”

So do you take issue with both? Or just Lieberman? At least neither of them mimic the same garbage most Israeli leadership regurgitates, calculated for political reasons though it may be. I know no one but Moshe Feiglin will do for you and I’d like to see you get your wish because at least Moshe Feiglin is an observant which would hopefully make him more staunch in his opposition of giving away any of the land.

Danny Danon and Avi Lieberman are welcome exceptions, of course.

    As they saying goes:

“There’s a sucker born every minute.”

  10. We practice Christian teachings and turn the other cheek to all provocations.

It’s true. Jews are civilized and tolerant to the point of near extinction just as during WWII when Jews trusted in the the system to protect them and we all know how that went. Lambs to the slaughter.

I think most Israelis would rally behind an honest and strong leader who for once spoke the truth to the people. Most Israelis have national pride but you would never know it from the actions of our leadership.

Danny Danon and Avi Lieberman are welcome exceptions, of course.

Palis will declare for statehood and get at least 140 countries recognizing them.

Wouldn’t this nullify the Oslo Accords(not that they ever abide by agreements anyway)?

The question is, Yamit, are Israelis, on the whole(not counting the Arab Israelis, of course)ready and willing to defy the international community’s threats of isolation?

I doubt it. professor Eidelberg calls Israelis contented bourgeois and the only truly Christian nation. We practice Christian teachings and turn the other cheek to all provocations.

There is only one small fringe party in Israel that can be considered right-wing nationalist in orientation but they are to politically correct to be effective, even in opposition. I don’t agree with Feiglin wasting his time with the Likud and in any case even in the end he proves correct the Likud will not be the Likud then in anything but name. In any case events won’t wait for Feiglin, everything is poised to hit the fan by the end of this year.

Th Palis will declare for statehood and get at least 140 countries recognizing them. Obama will probably recognize them and if Israel resists it will put Israel in a state of Isolation which all of our leaders fear and dread.

There is a symmetry Between BB and the Saudis. They pay billions of dollars to buy off their opposition and BB is paying and willing to pay more in land concessions in hopes the wolves will be satiated.

As long as the current leadership is in place there is no-one to rally the nation. They will follow and accept as a no choice option justification. I think most Israelis would rally behind an honest and strong leader who for once spoke the truth to the people. Most Israelis have national pride but you would never know it from the actions of our leadership.

Its a good question – I believe we are

I disagree, certainly when it comes to the ballot.

The majority of Israelis continue to vote for parties and candidates who are willing to promote a 2 state solution or go along with the idea.

The Likud is a problem because it muddles the voice of those who voted for it who are against Netanyahu, just as they were against Olmert, just as they were against Sharon. Those who shifted over to Lieberman’s false front will be sorely disappointed once they finally read what Lieberman has actually been stating for years.

  13. Its a good question – I believe we are. The Likud is worse than watered down, no matter who they put up to lead, they always go against what they were voted in for once they’re in office.

  14. HCQ, the general Jewish Israeli population is complacent and blows with the wind. They are sheeple.

What the YNet article linked to here doesn’t tell you is about the rift within the Likud. The Likud has cancer. It needs to be fully excised in order for the patient to recover.

  15. The question is, Yamit, are Israelis, on the whole(not counting the Arab Israelis, of course)ready and willing to defy the international community’s threats of isolation? The leadership is already caving to international pressure. Is the general Israeli population unified in the idea of taking a stand, once and for all, and saying “NO”! to the 2 state solution knowing the hardships it may provoke?

It would require massively voting out Kadima and Labor and replacing them with a mix of right wing parties. Likud is proving to be somewhat convoluted i.e. their rhetoric is not matching their actions; although there are still committed nationalists in Likud, it’s looking more and more watered down overall.

78% drop in housing starts in 2010 Largest drop in over 20 years. BB has not only created a serious social problem in the country but has helped to create a housing bubble where Israel has the third highest rise of all countries of housing prices. High prices force more to rent making rentals up to 50% higher in the last two years.

BB’s cowardice is destroying our social and economic base. Rich getting richer poor /poorer.

Jews of J & S should leave the army and those not yet inducted should opt out until BB and Barak kicked out of power. Reservists should not answer call-ups.
