The officials say Netanyahu’s continued tenure as PM could destroy Likud, whose agenda is being dictated by his personal affairs.

Current and former senior Likud officials, some of whom are current Knesset members, are currently coming together in an effort to bring about the replacement of the party’s chairman, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Arutz Sheva has learned.
According to those senior officials, Prime Minister Netanyahu has abandoned the goals of the party and the right-wing agenda, in favor of dealing with his personal affairs, and therefore it is necessary to bring the Likud back to its true path.
The officials mention that despite the green light he received from the US administration, Netanyahu chose not to apply sovereignty in Judea and Samaria, and in addition did not act to change the face of the justice system and did not do the necessary things to create change in the media.
“Netanyahu presented himself as a right-winger and a right-wing leader, but in fact acted to promote left-wing policy,” they added.
Members of the emerging group claim that if Netanyahu remains at the helm of the Likud, the party is likely to disintegrate. Therefore, they are addressing two possibilities: ousting Netanyahu or establishing a right-wing movement that will take the Likud’s place and adopt its original platform, if Netanyahu does not resign and his ouster does not succeed.
The group claims that the prime minister’s main preoccupation these days is his personal survival. “MKs and ministers are busy with the war over Netanyahu and his political survival.”
Recall that in the past week, tension within Likud has intensified around the issue of the run for the presidency of World Likud, and the confrontation between Mickey Zohar, Netanyahu’s candidate and the leading candidate for the position, and Yaakov Hagoel, an associate of Danny Danon and MK David Bitan.
At the same time, members of Gidon Saar’s group in Likud is sharpening its tone against the prime minister’s positions, apparently out of an assessment that his political demise is not far away.
Ted, my post “appears” to have been eaten up; but this may just be an artifact of the editing window, etc.
I don’t see the government falling any time soon. Bibi and Likud are too weak at the polls to chance it.
@ Adam Dalgliesh:
Likud has gone down sharply in the polls, and it happened after thousands of settlers started joining Likud in an effort “to change it from within”, i.e., they felt that something was wrong with the party.
I hate to say this (I am no spring chicken myself) but there should be a mandatory retirement age for politicians with the possibility of serving as unpaid consultants, if they wish and if there is a need.
What good is declaring sovereignty if no one recognizes it and uses the move as proof of the truth in their historical revisionism.
There are more important items on calendar right now than declaring sovereignty.
This issue is on ice and so is Gideon Sa’ar.
The guy is all thumbs.
The Sa’ar Likud Rebels are all thumbs. If they had control over the Starship Likud. While they were dancing and boozing it up, making Jackasses out of themselves fighting over the top slots and Volvos, they would realize too late they were going to crash. The result would be a leftist takeover and takedown of the country. There you would be mortified to see the Israel BLM movement franchise calling for the destruction of any historical monuments and statues in order to replace them with Arafat, Edward Said and a Calderon of terrorist ghosts led by clones of The Reverend Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakan, Omar, Tlaib, Cortez and Pressley(not Elvis, The slave owner).
Revisionist History would push for a so called one state solution led by Peter Barnheart and assorted of other LBQT “Ground Control to Major Thoms” yeah…you’ve really made the grade. Excuse me if I puke.
@ Adam Dalgliesh:
If enough Likud members were willing to vote with the opposition in a No-Confidence then the government could collapse. This could be one of the threats. They could provide him an ultimatium with a step aside or we will have the government fall. You are correct he has many that are considered loyalists.
He is losing the populace. I have not a clue what will happen. The corona-virus maybe his undoing. It is a problem and he appears not to have any answers and many people are hurting economically.

Doctors attack the Health Ministry’s coronavirus combating policy
As an alternative, the group of doctors offered to keep the older population safer and to allow more freedom to Israel’s youth.

Dozens of Israeli doctors have signed a petition claiming that the current policy implemented by the Health Ministry will lead Israel to an economic collapse, according to N12.
The doctors also claimed that the policy has no chance of succeeding in any way and actually causes an increase in morbidity and death rates. As an alternative, the group of doctors offered to keep the older population safer and to allow more freedom to Israel’s youth.
The signatories, including 130 doctors who are officially registered with the Health Ministry, have signed an independent petition in recent days that has been circulating in social media. It heavily criticizing the government’s policy for managing the coronavirus crisis. The doctors insist that the current policy is useless, going so far as to say that it “will cause an economic disaster and promote the human suffering of millions of Israel’s population.”
In the petition, which was initiated by a doctor from central Israel, the doctors explain that their conclusions from the past few months are that all resources and efforts should be focused at treating and protecting the older, more sensitive population, as the majority of patients in serious condition are exclusively elders or people with underlying conditions. The petition also noted in this regard that the younger, healthier patients are usually those presenting no or barely any symptoms.
The petition also concluded that a majority of the population should be allowed to return to their normal lives, stating that young people will be infected and gradually develop immunity, with no major morbidity or death rates. The petition claimed that in this way, a severe economic crisis can be prevented, and the pandemic can be put to an end, as herd immunity will naturally prevent the virus from spreading.
According to the doctors who signed the petition, “The voices of many doctors who oppose the government policy have been silenced and ignored,” leading the Health Ministry to prevent any discussion on an alternative strategy.
“Enormous amounts of resources are being directed towards lockdowns, epidemiological inquiries and groundbreaking surveillance methods that target the healthy young population, who don’t pose a threat of developing a serious illness, and only lead to their economic demise,” the petition read. ”
Politics and populism — not coronavirus — are
making Israelis sick
The petition ends with a slogan that reads, “Coronavirus is easy on the youth – Protect the elderly!” – summarizing the message that it bears. The petition initiator has called upon the Health Ministry to invite the doctors who are signed on the petition to either meet with the health minister or with members of the coronavirus committee, and to allow them to represent those who’ve been dealing with the virus on the ground.”
This is what the Knesset must prioritize now. Not politics as usual. Not even the sovereignty debate. First of all, the Knesset must act to prevent the Health Ministry from causing economic collapse and many more deaths.
I don’t see how Netanyahu can be replaced in the foreseeable future as Likud leader. Likud rules require a primary election to replace the party leader. Since the last primary election was only last year and confirmed Netanyahu’s tenure, I don’t see how another primary can be arranged now. I believe Likud rules require several years between primaries. The only exception is if the Likud Centraal Committee votes to hold new primary elections. But the Central Committee is dominated by Bibi loyalists. Bibi has made sure of that.
The one thing that Likud “dissidents” could do to put pressure on Bibi would be to leave the Likud and join Yamina, or whatever it is called now, led by Benett. That would put a lot of pressure on Bibi to break up the present coalition and call new elections, and /or replace some of the present ministers with Yamina people, “old” or “new.” Either scenario would be an improvement on the current situation. The only other way to move Bibi out would be to join with the opposition in refusing to pass a budget. But given the present economic crisis, that would be a disaster.
