Saudi Arabia sets three conditions to make peace with Israel

by Micha Gefen, ISRAEL UNWIRED     December 8, 2022

There are a lot of hints that a normalization deal between Israel and Saudi Arabia is in the works.

While peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia will take time, there are already interesting developments. For one, officials from Saudi Arabia met with the heads of America’s Jewish community. They made it clear that they want peace with Israel.

Interestingly, there were only three conditions:

  1. A reaffirmation of the American-Saudi Arabia Alliance
  2. A restart of American weapons sales to Saudi Arabia comparable to other NATO members
  3. Permission to have a civilian nuclear program

Notice what issue is not one of the conditions. That’s right the “palestinians.

  1. @David Singer

Yet the Palestinians are front and centre of the Saudi Plan

A so called Saudi Plan which the Saudi’s refuse to call their own, which the faux Jordanian king can not endorse, which Bibi will not discuss, and which the so called Pals, of course, will never accept even if all the other relevant players actually chose to adopt this silly plan in any event. In fact, the greatest reason to doubt your so called Saudi Plan as being likely, possible or even relevant are the Abraham Accords, which would never have taken place without the support of the Saudi’s and which are the result of direct negotiation between Israel and her allied partners – no Pals included or required. Peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia will likely soon come about in a similar manner because the Saudi’s want peace with Israel and they recognize that the Pals have no interest in accepting peace, no matter the terms, the gifts or the sacrifices made to entice them to do so.

Yet the Palestinians are front and centre of the Saudi Plan:

That makes it a non-starter because the Palestinians don’t want peace at any price.
It’s not just their leadership as in the case of Iran.
The genius of the Abraham Accords is that it goes around them.
When you say, The Saudi Plan” are you referring to Shihabi’s plan? He happens to be a Saudi but does that make it a Saudi plan?

He’s just a man with a plan. (I wish I could remember how the rest of that ditty goes.)

    😀

  3. @David
Until such time as Saudi Arabia takes ownership of the plan and puts it forward under their name, I will continue to call it the “so-called Saudi Plan”.

  4. Ted:

Not only did Saudi Arabia not mention the Palestinians, it did not mention the so-called Saudi Plan

Yet the Palestinians are front and centre of the Saudi Plan:

Why would Palestinians support this plan? The first generation after the 1948 war, who lived through the Nakba, have now passed, and their descendants have grown up under Israeli occupation or in refugee camps with minimal education, training, and work opportunities, causing them to become increasingly angry, bitter, and frustrated. They will realize, once this idea is explained to them, that a futile struggle to regain their ancestral land should not be their priority anymore. The issue for them and their children going forward needs to be the ability to live a productive, fulfilling life once they are no longer stateless by having a citizenship that would allow them to do this.

  5. The Saudi plan on the table published on 8 June 2022 calling for the merger of Jordan, Gaza and part of Judea and Samaria into one territorial entity to be called “The Hashemite Kingdom of Palestine” is not conditioned on these three demands being met as enumerated by Micha.

  6. Saudi ARabia fears Iran, which is why it wants to use Israel. Once they have nuclear weapons, they will not need Israel.

Israel shouldn’t be so foolish as to fall for this. Get absolute peace, and military, economic dominace and keep it. You have economic independence and military. Don’t lose it to false friends.

  7. Saudi ARabia is just trying to use Israel to get nuclear weapons, which it will then use against Israel.

    Do wake up, Micha Gefen.

Didn’t Israelis learn anything in Qatar during World Cup 2022? Morococo, a supposed Abraham Accords partner was waving the Palestinian flag.

Can’t you see Israel is being used? Don’t give away your ingenuity and brains for nothing!
