Trump just appointed her Press Secretary.
When I asked Governor Mike Huckabee what the name “Huckabee” meant he told me it meant “up the hill”. At the time I thought it was a sign that he might become President some day.
I was wrong, but not completely so because his daughter became one of the most powerful people in the world this past week. She is indeed not only “up the hill” but on top of the hill. It is not unexpected. In 2010 Time Magazine voted her as one of the 40 under 40 top personalities in the world. That year she had helped run Senator John Boozman’s successful Campaign.
In 2014 she helped Senator Tom Cotton win his election bid for the Senate. At age 11 her father took her to Yad Vashem. (I recommend that one listen to Mike Huckabee’s Speech when he told this story at the Bet El Dinner in 2010). Gov. Mike Huckabee wondered “would she comprehend?” Sarah was overtaken with emotion. So incredulous at the recorded events of the Holocaust that she wrote in the guest book “Why didn’t someone do something?’ The Governor then said “I did not have to ask my daughter if she understood.” I met Sarah Huckabee Sanders when she was 26 years old and filling in for her father back then.
She joined he mother, Janet, for their very first Kosher Delicatessen experience at Mendy’s in Manhattan. Several months later she joined her father and me on one of our many trips to Israel together. She gave up her seat next to her father so Member of Knesset Rabbi Nissim Zeev could sit. She has tremendous respect for her fellow human beings. She came with her husband to Israel in 2009-2010. Her knowledge of the State of Israel and its neighbors is superb. She can educate the entire White House on the Middle East.
She knows the topic as well as anyone else her age in America today. I am proud of the fact that we spent so much time discussing every aspect of Israel’s existence. I know she will always do right by Israel. She met with our group for about two hours when President Trump came to Israel in May in honor of Jerusalem’s 50th Anniversary since Reunification and the Six Day War. She was humble and dignified as I always remembered her. It is a true honor to see Sarah Huckabee Sanders as America’s Press Secretary.
She has that spark only present on those good souls seldom reaching the powerful level she has honorably gained. We wish her and President Trump success.
