Samantha Power, Obama’s pick as America’s Ambassador to the UN, will fit right in

Ed Lasky, AMERICAN THINKER

Samantha Power has been a notorious critic of Israel for years and that, naturally, makes her well-qualified under President Obama’s criteria to serve in such a crucial post. She will be welcomed with open arms at the United Nations.

We at American Thinker have been warning about her influence with Barack Obama since 2008 (see Samantha Power and Obama’s Foreign Policy Team).

But her bit of nastiness seems to be tinged with a bit of anti-Semitism as well.

When concerns arose in 2008 regarding Barack Obama and his views towards Israel it generatedwrath from Ms.  Power, who was a key foreign policy adviser to candidate Obama. She let loose in a radio interview while in Europe, “So much of it is about: ‘Is he going to be good for the Jews?”  Her writings and sayings are laced with more of anti-Semitism.

Power writes of her willingness to impose solutions on the Israelis and Palestinians and that she would be willing to:

“alienat[e] a domestic constituency of tremendous political and financial import; it may more crucially mean sacrificing…billions of dollars, not in servicing Israel’s military, but actually investing in the state of Palestine.”

She has talked about those nefarious forces in America that are flaws in formulating US foreign policy:

Another longstanding foreign policy flaw is the degree to which special interests dictate the way in which the “national interest” as a whole is defined and pursued….  America’s important historic relationship with Israel has often led foreign policy decision-makers to defer reflexively to Israeli security assessments, and to replicate Israeli tactics, which, as the war in Lebanon last summer demonstrated, can turn out to be counter-productive.

And she later complained about Israel’s treatment of Lebanon when that nation was forced to defend itself against attacks from terror groups based there:

“Israeli forces refused to comply with the spirit of international demands to withdraw and the major powers on the Security Council were not prepared to deal with the gnarly issues that had sparked the Israelis invasion in the first place: dispossessed Palestinians and Israeli insecurity”.

Furthermore she wrote in her most recent book (Chasing the Flame: One Man’s Fight to Save the World —  basically a hagiography of a UN employee and a glorification of the United Nations):

Israel had thumbed its nose at the Security Council resolutions that demanded that Israel stay out of Lebanon, and in the course of invading a neighbor, its forces had trampled on the UN peacekeepers in its way”.

She even went so far as to call Israelis “bastards”

She even promoted Palestinian propaganda that a massacre was committed in Jenin-even telling off a New York Times reporter (!) who did not agree with her view

She also wanted to impose a settlement on Israel, backed up with the placement of US troops(Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel thinks likewise, btw).

Her adherence to the Soros-funded principle of Responsibility to Protect as an international policy can be used as a cudgel against Israel when it comes to the Palestinians and any actions Israel may be compelled to take in Lebanon to defend herself from Hezb’allah (now busy committing war crimes in Syria at the behest of the mullahs in Iran).

Ms. Power also derided concerns about Iran’s nuclear weapons program in a Time magazine column, stating that it was a figment of the imagination conjured up and promoted by George Bush to gin up pressure on Iran . She counseled, what else, outreach and engagement not further pressure. She will be great at the United Nations: great for Iran, great for Hezb’llah, great for Hamas.

She will be widely welcomed in that hotbed of hatred.

I listen to Michael Medved and John McCain discuss Ms Power. McCain like her because she supports the arming of the Libyan rebel and the Syrian rebels as does McCain. Because of that he over looked her anti-Israeli attitude. This appalled me,but then McCain has always appalled me.
However Mark Levin was enraged at the appointment. Note as far as I know Abe Foxman has said nothing.

    NEWSFLASH

Russia set to conduct surveillance flyover to inspect Canada’s military, industrial infrastructure

The Russians are conducting what has quietly become their annual flyover of key Canadian sites this week, revealing the two countries’ regular surveillance of one another at a time when a spy scandal and Arctic sovereignty have markedly strained relations.

Russia has routinely exercised a 10-year-old treaty right to fly over Canada and inspect the country’s military infrastructure, industrial complexes, cities and transportation hubs, according to a National Defence spokesman. He said it is the only one out of 34 countries to fly over Canadian soil under the Open Skies treaty.

  3. NEWSFLASH – Saudi Arabia gets unrestricted access to US air space. This comes on top of other privileges, such as Saudi citizens not having to suffer degrading treatment at airport security, so they are allowed to go through without need for groping or X-Ray machines.

“The United States-Saudi Arabia Open Skies agreement will permit unrestricted air service by the airlines of both countries between and beyond the other’s territory, eliminating restrictions on how often the carriers fly, the kind of aircraft they use and the prices they charge. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/jun/5/deal-gives-saudi-arabia-unrestricted-access-us-air/?utm_source=RSS_Feed&utm_medium=RSS ~~~~~ Oh, the things that money can buy…

“Hold your friends close and your enemies even closer”

I wish that were the case but BB is a coward appeaser; he gets off on groveling. In all of his time as PM of Israel he has never stood firm against any President or pressure from anyone foreign or domestic.

  5. @ stanrevich:

I think you have a very point. I have also supected” gun running” may have been involved. I think they may have been summgling gun to Syrian Rebels.

  6. I still think that the motive for Stevens’ kidnapping wasto have him exchanged for the blind sheik who is being held, ultra securely, in prison in the U.S. The attackers were foiled however by Stevens’ death from smoke inhalation. The administration had it all planned out as an easy means of getting rid of the sheik (plus who knows what other secret agreements had been made}. Remember when the attack was made shortly after on the oil field in Algeria they Islamists demand was for that same “blind sheik” to be freed and these Islamists have made no secret of the fact that they want him released. The attack on the compound took over 7 hours by a rag-tag group of fighters. Why did they persist so long? Ordinarily such operations are “in” and “out” affairs to minimize casualties. Obviously they had good reason to feel that the U.S. was NOT going to come in and rescue Stevens. I would not be surprised if the Cairo attacks on the same day were timed to take attention away from what was to occur in Benghazi.

  7. Netanyahu Congratulates Susan Rice

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Wednesday evening congratulated Susan Rice on being chosen as U.S. National Security Adviser, and thanked outgoing National Security Adviser Tom Donilon.

“Israel and the U.S. are strategic allies, and I am certain that bilateral security cooperation, which has been greatly enhanced in recent years, will continue in the years ahead,” the Prime Minister said.

Wonder how many other countries congratulated Rice on appointment? BB is such an embarrassment for Israel…

  8. Al Qaeda weapons expert says U.S. ambassador to Libya killed by lethal injection
    http://freebeacon.com/possible-poisoning/
Here’s an idea, kidnapping was a false flag to deflect attention from supplying rebels arms, that’s the reason for the stand down order. the rescuers botched the play so stevens was assasinated.
Idea 2 stevens was to be traded for jihadists
idea 3 stevens was attacked by syrian and iranian financed jihadists as attempt to stop arms flow to rebels
idea 4 stevens false flag was set up to discredit a hillary run in 2016 by obama backers who want a different option in 2016.
    idea 5 ….coming next week 🙂

  9. BREIBART lists 10 questions for Samantha at her hearing. Three of them as follows:
Israel: In 2002, you advocated the use of a “mammoth protection force” to impose a solution on Israel and the Palestinians, saying “external intervention” was needed. Yes or no – do you still personally hold that view? ~~~ Jews: In that same 2002 interview, you said that the government must “alienate a domestic constituency of tremendous political and financial import,” presumably the Jewish community. Have your views changed? ~~~ HR Council: The Obama administration’s participation in the UN Human Rights Council has only given legitimacy to anti-American and anti-Israel attacks. How do you justify our continued involvement? – http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2013/06/05/Top-10-Questions-for-Samantha-Power-Confirmation-Hearing

  10. So now in addition to the CIA director Brennan as the father of Obama’s pro-Islamist policy, Secretary of Defense Hagel who opposed the Iran sanctions, Secretary of State Kerry who compared the Boston and Mavi Marmara victims and the President who supports the anti-Semitic and anti-American Muslim Brotherhood, we also have a candidate for the post of US Ambassador to the UN who advocated the invasion of Israel! I wonder if the American electorate is just ignorant, irresponsible or perhaps this is what Americans really stand for?

The Muslim Brotherhood. Is this what Americans stand for?
