A Knesset plenum passed a new law by 26 to 18 requiring a referendum before any further withdrawal.
It also passed a law to require MKs to pledge their devotion to keeping Israel “a Jewish and democratic state, both in character and symbolism.”
So far so good.
The law was passed in its preliminary reading despite strong opposition, including from the prime minister’s bureau.
