Putin makes an offer the West should accept.

Putin calls for recognition of Crimea as Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for international recognition of Crimea as part of Russia, an end to Ukraine’s NATO membership bid and a halt to weapons shipments there.

Putin claimed Tuesday that Russia’s 2014 annexation of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula should be internationally recognized as a legitimate reflection of the local population’s choice, likening it to a vote for Kosovo independence.

To end the current crisis, he also called for the renunciation of Ukraine’s NATO bid, saying it should assume a “neutral status,” and said that the West should stop sending weapons there.

  1. @Reader Also, Crimea chose to federate with the Ukraine while maintaining autonomy and warm ties with Russia in 1990. In 2014, after the coup instigated by Obama and Kerry, dubbed, the “Maidan Revolution,” the Ukraine tore up its constitution and with it, Crimea’s autonomy. They were proposing to make Ukrainian the only official language and over 60 percent of Crimeans are Russian speakers. I live in New York and everything is in several languages!

I wish Zelensky’s tv series about a high school history teacher who becomes president and battles corruption was available. Brilliant satire. The first season was available on Netflix, After several seasons, it propelled him into the presidency. It describes a country run by oligarchs and near bankruptcy due to universal corruption.

Crimea was actually a separate country and then a Soviet republic, at one time. The Ukraine became one for the first time in 1990. All very artificial and engineered from above. Like other unstable manufactured countries such as Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Iraq, Rwanda.

  2. RT Article lays out Russian foreign policy and views simply put believing the west is falling apart and China (its natural ally) rising. Russia will takeover land and the former Soviet Republics lost as the west falters.

Russia’s military capabilities, the returning sense of moral righteousness, lessons learned from past mistakes, and a close alliance with China could mean that the West, which chose the role of an adversary, will start being reasonable, even if not all the time. Then, in a decade or sooner, I hope, a new system of international security and cooperation will be built that will include the whole Greater Eurasia this time, and it will be based on UN principles and international law, not unilateral ‘rules’ that the West has been trying to impose on the world in recent decades.

Article is well worth reading tells what Putin’s Russia’s views and goals are. This is the Putin doctrine and foreign policy. BAD NEWS

  3. Putin cannot on his own reconstitute anything.

However, I suspect that he wouldn’t make such a bold move unless he knew that at least the population of the Eastern Ukraine has gotten sick and tired of the Ukrainian politics and the economic situation of the last 8 years.

  4. Israel is wise not to take sides in other people’s conflicts if it can be avoided, especially when none of the warring parties consistently support Israel’s positions in the international arena, and especially given the reality that these are disputed territories, the majority of whose people wanted to seceded. . Unlike, Taiwan, Tibet, and Hong Kong, more like Texas.

  5. I don’t see Putin as an enemy. I see him as a friend of Israel.. I see nothing wrong in recognizing Russia’s sphere of influence to include what he identifies in this offer.

  6. Why should the west accept this. Putin will only grab more land. He will reconstitute as much of the Soviet Union as part of the Russian Federation as he can get away with. Approving of this will only encourage him.

Putin also demands NATO withdraw from eastern Europe to Soviet lines. Should West agree to this BS also?
