Putin didn’t count on Zelensky’s resistance.

By Ted Belman

From twitter I read,

  • The Ukrainian President’s Office requested the mediation of the Emirates to negotiate with Russia…
  • one Ukrainian sniper says he has killed 47 Russian soldiers.
  • one Ukrainian soldier sacrificed himself to blow up a bridge to slow the Russian advance.
  • 36,000 Ukrainian women in the military and fighting
  • civilians are joining the fight
  • Ex-President of Ukraine Poroshenko takes up arms.
  • More than 4,000 Molotov cocktails have already been prepared in Lutsk
  • There is no question about how effective the US provided Javelin missile has been against the Russian tanks, many lay in flames now.

  1. I suspect that Poland and Hungary are already aiming to grab those parts of Western Ukraine that are heavily Polish and Hungarian.

I wouldn’t cede to them these areas unless they agree to quit NATO and, possibly, the EU.

  2. So many many people are getting killed in the Ukraine, buildings blown and oil deports blown up. This is being done by Russia who has done this because they want to steal the Ukraine from the Ukrainians. How many people will lose their lives and how many will become refugees?

I am amazed that any westerners can sympathize with Putin and the Russian military.

  3. @Peloni there will be an insurgency by UKRAINIANS AGAINST RUSSIA is what I am predicting in the event they lose the main war.

Do you actually believe Putin has a right to control and own the Ukraine and is not a sovereign country with a right to choose its own leaders?

So Putin’s propaganda of de-Nazifying is pure rubbish to be understated.

The presence of the anti-Russian power block within Ukraine is quite real. Putin likes to call them Nazis, others like the term Neo-nazis. I think my meaning was clear and I do not believe the presence of a Jewish president changes the reality that the groups all these terms are referencing are not propaganda. They are quite violent and quite real.

Regarding your comments on pursuing an insurgency within Ukraine, I found it a little bit ironic, as there have been a series of ongoing insurgencies against whichever side held power for the past hundred years. They should really just change the name of the country from Ukraine to a rough translation of “the land of the insurgencies”. The idea of a prolonged insurgency in Ukraine as being something new is the very epitome of propaganda, so the anti-Russian insurgents will likely just dust off their old routine from 8 yrs ago and, well, you get my point.

It really was a response to the statement made by the Estonian diplomat that I referenced.

Regarding Putin being a gangster as you noted, or a dictator or s.o.b. as noted by others, we are not talking about Ukraine because of any personality attributes of the Russian premiere. Rather, the reason that Ukraine is about to be returned to the Russian fold, as it were has nothing to do with Putin, his desires of controlling the former Soviet states or his animosity toward the Zelensky govt or the West. These facts have always been in place as has his ability to overwhelm the Ukrainian forces. The reason we are, today, looking at the Russians retaking Ukraine is expressly due to the fact that the West gave Putin the green light to do what he is doing. Mind you, I am not celebrating Putin as man of the year, but his motivations are not driving this current battle surrounding Kiev. The Russian desire and intent to retake control of a neighboring nation they saw as a strategic barrier to the West is like gravity – it was a given constant, never fluctuating, never dimming from their view, even while the Orange Revolution played out as an American massacre that was then amplified via social media manipulations by American intelligence agencies, all to install a Western anti-Russian govt. While nothing changed with Russia, there were changes that took place in the West – first, the steps taken to overthrow of the Ukrainian govt and second, the nod to allow Putin to retake Ukraine currently. In the absence of an opposing force, gravity will always draw a plate to the ground.

Or, at least, this is how I see this current marathon of charades.

  6. @PELONI-

No one is remotely suggesting tht Ukraine is winning, so why mention it. They are losing- as would any weak military against a massive invader,

They are putting up a spirited defence, as any independent country would and should. Putin is acting like a gangster.

  7. Zelenskyy President of Ukraine is Jewish. So Putin’s propaganda of de-Nazifying is pure rubbish to be understated. I am amazed that people fall into Putin’s obvious spin on his naked aggression in Ukraine.

As the head of Estonia just said, we joined NATO so what is happening to Ukraine does not happen to us. All these former Soviet countries or satellites simply do not wish to be subjects of the brutal dictator Putin. These countries joined NATO for protection from Russia and NOT to attack it.

Ukrainian strategy needs to be for a long insurgency to bleed Russia and make Russian mothers cry for their sons who died because of Putin.

  8. As we stand in the thick of the fog of war, we can still rationalize reality from imagined fantasies. I just read on the DailyMail.com that should Russia be caught in a state of war for more than 10 days, the Russians will run out of missiles and money. The report comes from an Estonian diplomat and I suspect his source is a strong imagination. The same article mentions the limited number of Russian missiles, yet also states they are being randomly aimed at towering buildings to terrorize the public. Two plus two equals M&Ms only in fairtale math.

I find it unlikely that the Russians will fail in their objectives in Ukraine. Russia has been facing the Ukrainians thru their Wagner mercenary forces for some time now and should be well aware of the military capabilities they are facing. Entering Ukrainian capital will of course energize a fierce resistence by the defenders and that may make a difference. The fact that the Russians are not using their missiles more agressively, suggests a more likely fact that the Russians are not seriously concerned with any current setbacks. Russia is likely hoping to leave Ukraine with a pro-Russian govt and far fewer “Nazis”, but he has no interest in attacking the people of Ukraine, actually it would be quite counter productive, despite the Western media’s claims to the contrary. Should things go poorly for Russia, that would be the time it might be expected that Russia would carry out retributional attacks upon the people. If we accept the claim that this is not occurring as reported in Western reports, and it would only feed their propaganda to state otherwise, I find strongly suspect that Russia has no serious concerns about the their supply of rockets and money, quite a laughable claim actually.

I also read that Zelensky has requested Israel to moderate with Putin, again. And also the Emirates. Not a sure sign that Ukraine is winning.

It is also noteworthy that Putin is not even attempting to hide the protests in Russia against his military operations in Ukraine. A sure sign that he is not concerned with the time table of the operation.
