Cancellation Move Diverts Attention Away from Protests Against His Regime
AP Story is incomplete and amounts to “Fake News”
(Amman) – In reaction to the King of Jordan’s announcement regarding the cancellation of annexation agreement between Jordan and Israel, the Jordanian Opposition Coalition (JOC) announced its commitment to peace with Israel, and continued support for the agreement and called the King a Liar.
“The JOC will uphold the agreement after it achieves its goal of regime change,” Dr. Mudar Zahran, Secretary General of the JOC said. “We hold sovereignty near and dear and appreciate the parts of the agreement that enforce Jordan’s sovereignty over the areas leased to Israel”.
“The land has been leased for 25 years, and no one knows how much it was leased for,” Zahran said. “We want to know who executed the agreement from the Jordanian side, who oversaw it, how much did Israel pay per year, for 25 years, and by whom was the money collected and where the money went, so far, we have not seen any sign the king had put any of that money in Jordan’s treasury” Zahran added: “The king must show where did the money go, it is our people’s money, and what has he done with it? Also, Jordan not his own private estate so he cancels and approves agreements whenever he feels like it”
Recently, the Associated Press (AP) announced that King Abdullah II of Jordan cancelled parts of the peace agreement saying, “Last week, demonstrators demanding an end to Israeli ownership of the lands in Amman, the capital of Jordan last week.”
“The fact is that no such protest occurred”, Dr. Mudar Zahran said. “There exists neither a Video, nor a Photograph to confirm such allegation, turning such an allegation a prime example of fake news.”
On the contrary, what occurred was this: The King, with his small circle of Royal Loyalists, reported in the media that he completely controls (Jordan has no free press), demanded that state-organized protests take place against the Peace Agreement with Israel.
According to Zahran, “Contrary to his orders, the Jordanian public refused to cooperate, because Jordanians are more concerned with their horrific conditions under which they are forced to today, holding His Royal Highness personally responsible and accountable”.
“The king is doing this just to divert his people from protesting against him”, Zahran added. “The King took advantage of the opportunity, thinking that the media would not translate what the crowd was saying.”
According to Zahran, “We are surprised that the main stream media has totally ignored the anti-regime protests, with the last big one being just as recent as October 20th”.
The demonstrations against the King took take place on October the 20 as can be seen in this video:
According to the Secretary General,” In the video, the regular and defiant tone of the protesters is heard, and the king is being called a thief and a gambler who has robbed Jordanian and impoverished them”.
“The reality is this – they were calling for his abdication and the end of his rule and regime,” Zahran continued.
In the videos – and we have many of them – No mention of Israel is made, and no mention of the leased land is heard.
“We see no problem in super powers like China leasing Hong Kong to the United Kingdom”, Zahran added. “But Jordan is clearly not a superpower.”
“The king is desperate and on his way out”, Deputy Secretary General of the Jordanian Opposition Coalition, Naseem Gheewan said. “He pulled this stunt to show the USA and Israel just how important he is, and how much trouble he can create.”, “I have news for him, he cannot change a thing, nor instigate any change in Jordan”
“He also wanted to co-opt the message in an effort to confuse the world media,” Gheewan continued.
“The king is the cause of trouble in Jordan and is a roadblock to peace in the middle east,” Zahran added. “It’s about time everyone understands the king is an obstacle to peace, and the roadblock he has put up, put money in his pocket.”

No…he’s showing what the Arabs would accept as leadership…and on their side.
@ Ted Belman:
Thank You, I’ll keep an eye out.
Very interesting approach by Zahran: ““We hold sovereignty near and dear and appreciate the parts of the agreement that enforce Jordan’s sovereignty over the areas leased to Israel”. “The land has been leased for 25 years, and no one knows how much it was leased for,” “We want to know who executed the agreement from the Jordanian side, who oversaw it, how much did Israel pay per year, for 25 years”. So as soon as he grabs the power, he will ask for the money from Israel for “leasing their land”. It seems that he is using Israel just to help him to overthrow the king.
@ Edgar G.:
The king is so worried about these protests that he wrote to You Tube asking them to remove the video. They did so temporarily. We are watching to see if the video ban is removed.
The little king is overplaying his hand.
Erdogan is scheming to hold back the considerable trade flowing from Turkey via Israeli ports on to trucks heading through Jordan onwards. Instead, he seeks to divert logistics back through Jordan via Syria. And the King of Jordan is getting impudent.
So how about cancelling Jordan’s overflight rights from the Mediterranean to Amman, for starters. Next, no more water supplies from Israel to the little kingdom. Then scrap the ludicrous sea water Grand Canal from Aqaba to the Dead Sea. The Mediterranean-to-Dead-Sea route is much better instead.
After the little king will be toppled, the historic agreement awarding rights to administer Holy Places will simply not be renewed. Period. Not re-issued to Saudi’s and not revert to Jordan in a new version. Simply not renewed. Israel can manage this very well by itself. Thank you.
I checked on the video of the protest mentioned, and it is blocked on Youtube.
