Palestinians have a right to claim restitution for their loss of natural resources due to the Israeli occupation, the United Nations General Assembly said on Wednesday.

It approved by 160-6, with 15 abstentions an annual resolution called “Permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including east Jerusalem, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources.”

It is one of 17 annual pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli resolutions the UNGA has approved this month. The UNGA is slated to vote on at least two other such texts this month.

The six opposing countries were: Canada, Israel, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru and the United States.

The 15 abstaining nations were: Australia, Brazil, Cameron, Côte d’Ivoire, Guatemala, Honduras, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Togo, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

All the European Union member states voted for the resolution.

The text reaffirmed the rights of the Palestinians and Syrians on the Golan to the “natural resources, including land, water and energy resources.”

It recognized “the right of the Palestinian people to claim restitution as a result of any exploitation, damage, loss or depletion or endangerment of their natural resources resulting from illegal measures taken by Israel, the occupying Power, and Israeli settlers in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including east Jerusalem,” the resolution stated.

It declared that Israel’s security barrier is illegal and called on Israel “to cease immediately and completely all policies and measures aimed at the alteration of the character and status of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including east Jerusalem.”

Israel must halt the “dumping of all kinds of waste materials, in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including east Jerusalem, and in the occupied Syrian Golan,” the resolution stated.

It called on Israel to halt the demolition of Palestinian homes and the destruction of vital Palestinian infrastructure.

The resolution also called on UN member states not consider the territory over the pre-1967 lines to be part of Israel.

  1. I find Votes like this very disheartened, but I take solice in the fact its ‘only’ a UN vote.
The UN only reduces its significance and potential for good in the world by these decisions.
How do we make them see this? I don’t know.

  2. @ Frances Weingarten:

Frances you’re wrong…the HAVE a claim. Just a few items here..For instance, they lost a few hundred mud hut with no windows. They lost an immense amount of trachoma and complete blindness. The lost a whole population’s worth of early death from loathsome diseases, the great loss of having a 70% infant mortality and an average life span of abut 35, …and if they were lucky to have a goat, the loss of being able to sleep with it…..and much much more.

Oh yes…at the same time as all this, their filthiest, most ragged offal and dirt -eating degraded individuals lost their dignity as being the greatest people in the universe, far above ALL kafir dogs…….of advanced and educated Jews, particularly………………

  3. I think the Jewish people can claim much more in the way of restitutions from the overwhelming majority of these 160 “nations.”

The U.N. is an entirely corrupt organization. For example, if a judge or jury member in a case has any sort of personal interest or attachment to the case, theiy are ethically and legally obligated to recuse themselves and cease any involvement. Should they fail to do so, any decision reached is null and void.

How many of the 160 “juror states” at the U.N. are impartial and able to vote objectively? Not any of the 56 or so whose names begin with “The Islamic Republic of.” Further, how many of the other 104 are dependent on the 56 and don’t dare break ranks and risk losing their ongoing supply of oil?

And then of course, there are the various EU countries whose 1,000 plus year history of Jew hatred renders them completely biased in evaluating anything to do with Jews or the Jewish Nation State.

  4. The Palestinians have no claim to restitution given that they have experienced no loss of natural resources from the non-existent occupation or otherwise! The Palestinians, in fact, live on handouts and make no effort to sustain themselves! This might be partially as a result of spending much, if not most, of their time trying to destroy Israel! The Palestinians have no claim on Israel or to the Golan or for anything, as Israel is now and has been for milenia the home of the Jewish people! That there are Palestinians living in Israel is their good fortune as despite the ugly behaviour of most Palestinians leaders, there are still good relations among many of the Palestinians and Israelis. Leaders like Abbas and Hamas like to portray the Jews as having taken their land and left them destitute! If any Palestinians are destitute it is because their leaders keep all the funds received from foreign countries to live their fulsome lives while leaving their people to live in destitution! It’s about time that those in the UN, and elsewhere, who are supporting the Palestinians take another look at the reality of what is taking place on the West Bank and in Gaza!
If the UN actually wants to do well for the Palestinians (who go under a created name as there is no such place as “Palestine”) they might start by finding them suitable homes among Arabs as that is who they are and that is where they should be living!

  5. Thinking on what’s good for the sodomites is better for the Israelites. Israel can claim restitution from the u k for their wrong doings during the mandate period, from the HASHmites for their illegal occupation and the sodomites for their current illegal occupation. From the e u for its Illegal building on Jewish land.
