The revelation that the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has received over $7.2 million in taxpayer funds has sent shockwaves across the United States and beyond. This unsettling news comes just months after CAIR’s executive director, Nihad Awad, made headlines for expressing joy over the brutal Hamas massacre of 1,200 Israelis on October 7, 2023.
According to a recent report, CAIR’s Greater Los Angeles chapter was awarded $7,217,968.44 in federal grants intended to assist impoverished immigrants in California between 2022 and 2024. However, glaring irregularities in how these funds were allocated have raised serious red flags.
The complaint, filed by the non-partisan Intelligent Advocacy Network (IAN), highlights that the money was improperly directed to CAIR’s Greater Los Angeles chapter—a group not registered as a non-profit and therefore ineligible to handle such charitable donations. CAIR-CA, the organization’s main California branch, was the only entity legally eligible to receive the funds, yet the grant appears to have bypassed them entirely.
The report further revealed that CAIR-Greater Los Angeles split the funds, “sub-granting” money to other CAIR chapters in San Diego and San Francisco. Alarmingly, these chapters are not registered with the IRS, meaning they have no public obligation to disclose how the money is spent.
Julie Marzouk, an IAN board member, described the situation succinctly: “There’s no transparency. This is part of a consistent pattern from CAIR to muddy the waters and limit the public’s ability to track the money.”
More troubling is CAIR’s long-documented connection to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. The organization has been identified by the U.S. Justice Department as an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas terror funding case. CAIR leaders have repeatedly refused to denounce Hamas and Hezbollah as terrorist organizations. Several former CAIR officials have been convicted of crimes related to jihadist activities, and CAIR itself has been designated as a terror organization by the United Arab Emirates.
Despite this record, CAIR continues to receive U.S. government funds and holds influence over law enforcement and policymakers. The lack of accountability and transparency surrounding these grants has sparked widespread calls for an immediate investigation. The American public deserves clarity on why taxpayer money is flowing to an organization with such a troubling history and questionable financial practices.
As Israel and its supporters worldwide stand against terrorism and extremism, it is essential that democratic nations ensure their resources are not inadvertently empowering those linked to terror. Israel’s unwavering fight for security and justice is a reminder that vigilance and accountability must remain paramount.
