  1. Funny – Abraham’s the hero…

Imaginary sky fairy: “Abraham, murder your son”
    Abraham: “Oki, doki”.
Rational person: “Are you NUTS dude, tell the sky fairy to buzz off”
Abraham: “Oh, no, the sky fairy is good, so my son must die”

Another situation (we know didn’t happen, but it’s a celebrated story):
Some dude: “Pharaoh, ruling despot, let my people go”
Pharaoh: “Nah, I like big pyramids, and you’ll build them”
Some dude: “Pharaoh, you *have* to let my people go”
    Pharaoh: “Buzz off”
Some dude, to his friend: “Please help us friend”
Friend: “OK, I’ll just commit genocide here, murder the innocent children of innocent (they were not rulers and had no impact on who’s today despot was) parents. A few million kids should do it”

Seriously? The sky fairy described in Jewish or Christian texts is a nice dude? Since when was the murder of innocent children an appropriate act?

Jews are a people, their unity probably comes from both shared culture, part of which is based on the bronze age myths described here and part of which comes from millennia of being persecuted. As such, the Jewish unity is stronger than in most cultures. To justify or explain any of it based on a mythical, and as described in the older texts, impossibly evil, sky fairy is somewhat infantile however.
