T. Belman. When the US closed its doors to Jewish immigration 100 years ago, Polish Jewry emigrated to Toronto during the next 30 years. My parents came in the twenties. My father’s family were communists and my mother’s family were Zionists. I was born into this world in 1937. It left an indelible mark on me.

Just an observation:
American exceptionalism (but imperfect as we all are) is one positive pole of exceptionalism.
On the opposite side, Germany was exceptional in its own way for producing to polar opposed evil ideologies: Nazism and Marxism.
Nazism failed.
Communism failed.
Unlikely that American Marxism will prevail.
