“Obama…merely a fool”

This was translated into English from an article in the Prague newspaper Prager Zeitungon.

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their president.”

Ain’t it the truth.

  1. It does have the potential to be formulaic:

The danger to willing to have such a man for their [leadership position]. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than [some standing leader or official], who is a mere symptom of what ails [country, state, empire]. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The [country, state, empire] can survive a [some standing leader or official], who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their [leadership position].

  2. This quote has been around for years. Its provenance is unknown. While some say it was a reader’s comment in response to an article on the Prager Zeitung, it’s been around longer than the date on which it supposedly appeared. Some German-reading have searched that paper and could not find it. Others say it originated on an American blog, but nobody can point to where and when.

  3. Quotations get circulated because they wittily or eloquently make an important point. Exactly where they originate is secondary.

Hey, if you can’t find the original source, you are welcome to attribute the quotation to me. I am legion.

  4. Paul:
I agree that it does not seem that someone would fabricate this but, unfortunately, it has been disputed. It was my hope that someone with the language skills and a bit more research knowledge could get this verified as it is a very good statement.

    Ted:
The quote from the Prague newspaper is excellent, BUT, I would really like to verify it. It has been floating around the web for a while now with some claiming that is has been fabricated. I attempted to search the original publication, which is written in German, but have not been able to find it yet. Perhaps readers here can assist?
    Thanks,
    Ed

Ditto that Ted. How could you post that scrap of genius with no source or attribute? Tsk!

Ed, why would somebody fabricate something like that? What kind of fabrication is it?

  7. What Alexander Hamilton said in his day [“the masses are asses”] was a mere echo of a famous Yiddish folk saying, “der oylem iz a goylem”. The golem, one recalls, is that brutish being incapable of independent thought, and keyed to the will of its master….

It’s the system. Universal suffrage=populism and corruption, where those who do vote (around 50% of those with voting privileges) vote for their own individual perceived interests. No way to choose good and wise leaders and if any happen to merit those descriptions it’s purely serendipitous.

America was Founded on the Right Not to Vote!!!

Two hundred years ago you had to be white, male and a property owner in order to vote and in some states a Christian (but not all denominations.
1920 – 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote. (Majority of women voted for Obama and a Majority of white males voted against)Draw your own conclusions

Up until 1913 (17th Amendment)senate was chosen by state legislators. They were answerable to the Sates Legislatures and could be removed at any time by those states. Today you have Senators serving for 20-30-40 years and some even more. They all raise money from sources outside their own states (meaning obligations to those not in their own states)and this is called in America a democratic process? 🙂

1913 in American history a memorable Year:

1913 – Woodrow Wilson becomes President
    1913 – Federal Reserve Act
1913 – 16th Amendment, establishing an income tax
    1913 – End of the Philippine-American War
1913 – 17th Amendment, establishing direct election of U.S. Senators.
    1913 – Underwood tariff
1913 – Henry Ford develops the modern assembly line

    True.
