@ Alanjo55:
I hadn’t realized that BHO was the hired gun in that little project.
Can’t say I’m ‘surprised’ though.
Lord spare us from another four yrs of such blessings. . . .
@ dweller:
Dweller, when I read Catarin’s comment on the erroneous comment that ‘banker’s blew the economy,’ the governments tactics of forcing loans to non-credit worthy individuals immediately came to mind. I was ready to comment on it but the next post was yours in which you gave an excellent explanation of what truely happened. The Democrats were mainly to blame once they took Congress in 2006 for they forced it on the banks. Obama was the lawyer who was active in suing one of the banks because they didn’t want to take part in the government’s loan fiasco knowing it was financial suicide. The bank sued was Citi Bank I think.
It’s amazing this is not known to more people.
@ Vinnie:
Thanks for that, Vinnie. You’ve included a couple items that I’d been utterly oblivious to, but a hefty chunk of it was already familiar to me.
In any case, I held back with the detail, as I didn’t want to lay so much on Catarin as to overwhelm her — or anybody else who’d been similarly clueless as to the enormity of this situation — right at the outset.
You’re quite correct as to the operational expense of Iron Dome. As of this date (and so far as I’m aware), only THREE of the anticipated NINE triple-component, Iron Dome batteries produced by Israel’s Elta, mPrest Software & Rafael Advanced Defense Systems companies — and which batteries have been successfully deployed against the Gaza terrorists (mostly of Islamic Jihad) who are targeting the one million civilians in southern Israeli towns & cities — are actually in hand & at the ready.
IDF has suspended further purchases — notwithstanding the $206 M appropriations assist [May 2010] from the USA 2011 budget (massively endorsed by the House [410-4])
— as each activation of the system, though very effective, is — as you’ve rightly noted — prohibitively expensive.
BHO certainly does seem to have a hard time putting himself in somebody else’s shoes. (Not that he’s alone in that respect.)
@ dweller:
Hi, Dweller.
This one’s also for Catarin.
Dweller, you forgot to mention that to this day, Obama has not approved any transfers of offensive weapons platforms – i.e., helicopter gunships or tactical fighter aircraft – AT ALL.
Israel is flying F-15 fighters that date back to the Carter administration. They asked to buy new F-15s, and the answer was NO.
Some of Israel’s AH-64 Apache helicopter gunships are simply wearing out, and are in need of replacement. Obama said NO…even rationalized this by saying that he wouldn’t provide them because they “..might be used against Palestinians”. Oh, yeah.
But included in that $60 billion dollar sale to Saudi Arabia on Obama’s watch are PLENTY of AH-64s and F-15s. You know, that sterling example of human rights and American values…Saudi Arabia…them, that’s right.
Now, there is ONE exception to this. Obama did agree to provide 20 F-35 Lightning II “Joint Strike Fighters” to Israel. These are our new stealthy general purpose tactical fighters that are now in development, and are intended to replace our currently serving F-16 and F/A-18 fighters.
Here’s the catch: The F-35 is WAY behind in development, and WAY over budget. Originally envisioned as a $20 million fighter, now it is estimated to cost $150 milion a copy, three quarters the cost of the F-22 Raptor, the most expensive fighter jet in history…and it is not nearly as capable as the Raptor….and the cost estimates keep going up. Oh, and as of right now – and this keeps being moved back – the F-35 is not expected to enter service with U.S. forces – never mind those of our allies – until 2016.
In other words, the only new fighter jet Obama agreed to sell Israel won’t even be available until after he is out of office, even if he gets re-elected. AND, if he DOES get re-elected, I fully expect him to cancel the F-35 anyway. Leaving Israel with nada, zilch.
Israel has not had this hard a time procuring armaments from the U.S. since the days of JFK, fifty years ago. And at least then, they could still buy reasonably good equipment from France. Today, Israel has no one else to turn to, except themselves (and they still cannot build their own jet engines, at least not yet).
True, according to Obama apologists, he has provided Israel with a lot of aid for the Iron Dome missile defense system.
It is a great system. But remember, Israel is using $200,000 missiles – that’s every shot – to knock down a Grad rocket or somesuch that might cost only a thousand bucks. In an all out war, even this system will likely be overwhelmed. Financially – and this counts in war, don’t kid yourself – defensive weapons like Iron Dome are a losing proposition in the long run.
Now, let’s put this in perspective.
Suppose Mexico was harboring some terrorist group in Tijuana that was lobbing rockets at San Diego. You think we’d just set up some Iron Dome launchers around San Diego and leave it at that? You think beyond that, we’d just tell everybody to build shelters and scramble for them whenever a siren went off? You think ANY self-respecting sovereign government would put up with that?
But under Obama, that’s what the U.S. expects – nay, DEMANDS – Israel should do.
And that’s why Israel needs fighter aircraft and attack helicopters, to do what anyone else in her situation would do, which is to go after the sources of the attacks and snuff them out. But Israel can’t afford to do so in a big way, in a decisive way, as long as Obama is in office. Because if you use these weapons en masse, well, this causes a lot of wear and tear..you need spare parts…you need more munitions…and you might lose a few to SAMs or AAA…and under Obama, you’d get NO spare parts or resupply or attrition replacements, if you’re Israel. It might upset the Musloids, you see….
Why do you think the Gaza war of ’09 stopped so abruptly, just before Obama took office?
Does that help answer your question, Catarin?
@ catarin:
This is what is known as “begging the question,” Catarin. Who SAYS it was “the Bankers” that “blew the economy to hell?”
A lawyer would object on the grounds that you are “assuming facts not in evidence” (and in this particular instance, the judge would probably sustain the objection).
In that case, think this thru, Catarin:
Bankers tend to be stingy, tightfisted types. (Think: “Mr Potter,” the Lionel Barrymore character in It’s a Wonderful Life.) As a rule, and traditionally, they don’t readily part with their money.
The typical expression of frustration with banking institutions always used to be: “They don’t like lending out money except to people who don’t need it.
So why did they provide mortgages to large numbers of people who were clearly not credit-worthy? — people who in a pinch would be unable to pay that money back to those bankers?
Answer: Because the govt pressured the bankers to do what they would not normally have done:
— pressured them to lend out that money to those non-creditworthy types. Threatened to not renew their institutions’ licenses, etc, if they didn’t cooperate with the program.
And then, to add the carrot to the stick, the govt said to the bankers, “If you take a bath from lending to these unreliable folks, don’t sweat it: You won’t end up hung out to dry, because we (the govt) will cover your tush.”
Then, when the spit hit the fan, as it was bound to do — and the govt had to make good — just to make sure the bankers would become complicit in the scheme, the govt “offered” them bailouts.
Wells Fargo (for one) tried to refuse any bailout — and thereby discovered that the “offer” was NOT in reality an offer at all. It was an ORDER. . . .
That’s how it all got going, Catarin. That was the first & most fateful blow.
That was the beginnings of how “…’the Bankers’ blew the economy to hell.”
Yes, I figured that was probably the case, but you wanted an answer to your question; so I gave it to you. In any case, you’ve got a mouse & an online connection — and now you know what to look for, if you’re interested.
Has it ever occurred to you when the Bankers blew the economy to hell, people who lost jobs had no choice but to seek government assistance or starve. The bankers got the money and the government got the casualties. I can put 2 + 2 together, why can’t you?
Dweller, I am not able to comment on your examples because I know nothing about it.
Obama is for supporting the many who used to be part of the middle class. I find no fault with that, and millions of others agree.
I cannot believe, either, the support Obama is receiving — mind boggling. He should be polling in the single digits. (There has been the suggestion that so many Americans are on govt assistance that they’ll vote for Obama in the mistaken belief that their hand-outs will continue, unabated. If Obama continues in office, I don’t see an economic recovery, but a collapse — and there will be nothing — nothing — provided by the Feds, due to bankruptcy. Then will come the true reckoning, the coming to terms with the disastrous, catastrophic policies of Obama.)
Romney should be leading by double digits when you consider that this administration has been one catastrophe after another both on the economy and foreign policy. That this is even close means Americans are not paying attention at all to what’s going on. So if they haven’t been paying close attention up to this point, these new stories aren’t going to make a difference.
dweller Said:
Just replace the name “Debbie” with “Catarin”
“Barack Obama is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I’ve ever known in my life.”
@ catarin:
Is this a serious question, Catarin?
Let’s see. How about, his refusing for his entire 1st 16 mos in the Oval Office to approve any needed, significant Israeli arms purchases or up-grades, as well as his suspending delivery of previously-approved purchases: effectively imposing, until late in 2010, an unstated, but very real, embargo — while America racked up a hefty profit from the 10 billion dollars in sales of massive quantities of offensive armament that His Wonderfulness did indeed see fit to approve for Arab League states in that same, identical period?
To say nothing of his seal on the largest munitions transaction in this country’s history, $60 billion: to the Sa’udi regime? (why would the Sa’udis need such hardware?)
— policy decisions in egregious & contemptuous violation of a 40-year-old US pledge to foster Israel’s qualitative military edge over her Arab neighbors;
• or his agreeing to give $1.5 billion to Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, a sworn enemy of Israel (as well as the assassin of Anwar Sadat, for making the March 1979 Camp David Treaty: which solemn agreement the Brotherhood now threatens to abrogate)?
• or his positioning 90 B-61 thermonuclear bombs at Turkey’s Incirlik AFB facing Israel just across the Mediterranean & in the tender keeping of Erdogan’s increasingly Islamic regime?
• or BHO’s administration’s policy of coddling & humoring the rabid mullahs in Tehran, while they play Chicken, undisturbed at their gallop-for-the-goalposts in an apocalyptic, Crackhead’s Quest to pack a flying lunch box with a Nice-Hot-BIG-One, ready for Express Shipping & marked for the citizenry of the Jewish state?
• or his notifying Jerusalem thru diplo back-channels that US forces will not — repeat, absolutely WILL NOT — bomb the nuclear facilities of the Islamic Republic (since, after all, “the United States… will never be at war with Islam”),
• while he simultaneously threatens to refuse re-supply of Israeli forces w/ spare parts or ammo in the event of any Israeli attack on the Iranian facilities?
WILL THAT DO, FOR STARTERS?
There was no place to record my views about the video made by the Republican Jewish committee. Any group that has the word Republican in its name is suspect in my book. Are you sure it wasn’t The Republicans S–t on the Jews Committee?
Please name the aid Obama cut from Israel. Was it cash, ammo, weapons, jets, new-fangled inventions, the offer of military experts and personnel, the cancellation of joint ventures? Just what in the hell was it?
Obama tried to make peace between Jews and Arabs. He failed, but I’m sure the effort pleased the Nobel committee. He learned the hard truth that again Arabs are after something for nothing, although I don’t think he would word it that way. Netanyahu and Obama don’t like each other. Neither did Elizabeth Taylor and Gina Lolabrigida like each other.
Is there an authority in Israel that could demand that any organization pressing Israel to accept an Arab state be required to present proof of the Muslims’ right to land in the Holy Land, including their religious connection to Jerusalem? Also ask them what is Israel’s guarantee that what is happening to the Christian Copts in Egypt, who are the children of the Pharaohs, will also not happen to Jews?
I think I mentioned that I also have a doctor who is a Christian Copt, who had to leave Egypt to finish his education, because Muslims would not allow him to take the classes he needed unless he converted to Islam, he told me that a deal was made between the military and Muslim Brotherhood to rule, and to rule against democracy. I hope Morsi realizes his troops will also be fighting against Americans if he makes a move toward Israel. Volunteers from America will swarm into the Holy Land to protect it from jihad.
While I’m on the subject of Egypt, does anyone know if more farming could be done along the Nile, even if they have to bring in top soil? As it is, they have to import grains for bread.
I tend to agree — it may be wishful thinking. I remember Mayor Daley (senior) — the Chicago machine. Talk about corrupt (and he was so slick, he never got called on it). I expect lots of voter fraud — dead people voting, illegals casting ballots, the voting “early and often” crowds, etc. maybe that’s why Obama is so nonchalant about his flubbing up the debate — his underlings have assured him, “the election is in the bag.” (?)
Obama going down? Wishful thinking according to the polls the race is is very close. Obama’s numbers prove that when it comes to voting, Americans are as dumb as Quebecois who are as dumb as Israelis.

Apparently there have been a number of these assasinations in Yemen — the enemy is taking out top intelligence officials (friendly to the U.S.). Of course Obama appears oblivious — yeah, so what’s the big deal? The Embassy in Yemen is as well protected as the consulate was in Benghazi — meaning minimal protection provided for U.S. personnel. It’s been a month now since Ambassador Stevens was murdered, one might have thought additional security might have been provided to our embassies — but I guess the Mullah-in-chief has other priorities.
