Defense contractor Israel Aerospace Industries unveiled a new electronic warfare system Thursday, touting it as the first ever that can target multiple threats simultaneously, including at varying distances.

The system, dubbed Scorpius, can disrupt the communications and radar systems of UAVs, ships, missiles and more, according to IAI.

“Scorpius’ technological breakthrough is characterized by unprecedented receiver sensitivity and transmission power (ERP), far exceeding those of legacy EW systems. This allows Scorpius to detect multiple threats, of different kinds, simultaneously, from dramatically increased distances, and to address each threat with a customized response,” it said in a statement.

The new Scorpius system can be attached to ground, naval and air forces, according to the semi state-owned IAI.

An IAI official said the new technologies “tip the scale of electronic warfare.”

“The modern battlefield depends on the electromagnetic domain for sensing, communications, and navigation. Protecting the use of the electromagnetic domain for our forces, while denying its use by the enemy, have become mission-critical for success in combat and for ensuring the superiority of our forces in the field,” said Adi Dulberg, general manager of IAI’s Intelligence Division, in a statement.

“The new technology, developed by IAI’s talented engineers, tips the scale of electronic warfare, providing world-first breakthrough capabilities for electronic defense and disrupting enemy systems,” added Dulberg.

IAI, develops and manufactures advanced systems for air, space, sea, land, cyber and homeland security.

Since 1953, the company has provided technology solutions to government and commercial customers worldwide, including satellites, UAVs, missiles, weapon systems and munitions, unmanned and robotic systems, and radar. The firm is one of Israel’s largest technology employers with offices and R&D centers in Israel and around the world. Founded by the state, it has undergone privatization but the state retains a majority stake in the firm.

  1. BEAR-

Yes I know this. But they are touting it as a “breakthrough”, and the terms they use make it seemlthat they have an ,,invincible attack and/or defence weapon, unique.

    No matter.

  2. @Edgar jamming equipment is something used by many countries. The USA and Israel excel at it. This is a leap in capability.

  3. BEAR-
I understand your points well made, but the generalities are sufficient to impel other countries to attempt to get the data in any way possible. Assuming even what the sales pitch avers, I’m surprised the govt. allowed it’s sale, which, being the majority shareholder, it could easily do..

So either there are extra assets to this item which Israel reserves, or, maybe it is only a refinement of an existing technology, on which other countries are also working, making Israel want to be the first to market it. The example re distance which you mention (as well as other specifications) would be in the list of specifications presented to a potential purchaser anyway.

In fact Bear, who really knows the minds and real intentions of others…..???.

  4. @ Edgar IAI is selling this product, so they need to tell people about its capabilities. There are advantages in telling its general capabilities which is all one finds here. Not the details like what distant it is effective at.

Has the IAF bought this system we do not know.

Israeli on some if its missiles systems can also attack via Optical means and not GPS. The general information here does not say if Israel is vulnerable to missiles that use Optical means.

  5. If these claims are legitimate, I query the logic of announcing them to the world. This should not have no t been broadcast. The obvious facts are now that spies and others offering massive amounts of money for critical information, will be put into play.

If true, is Israel at last, almost invulnerable to attack??? Like the original news of the atom bomb, but that only spurred other nations to infiltrate to steal, and also energise their own experts.

I hesitate to say that this news showed sheer stupidity, considering the brainpower that produced the item, so perhaps this achievement in not exactly what it professes to be.

Perhaps more like Israel’s nuclear “uncertainty” ? However, there will be an increase in the “spy industry” and attempted movement into the laboratories to try to confirm or refute..
