About 1,000 Americans have signed a document requesting to convert to Judaism, move to Israel, and settle in Samaria.
The group members are seeking to serve in the IDF and later establish communities based on the Kibbutz movement model.
The document was presented to Yisrael Beiteinu Knesset Member Lia Shemtov, who met with the group’s representative last week and promised to offer her help in facilitating the initiative.
The Christian group’s representative, Baruch Abramovich, said he was hopeful that MK Shemtov would be able to elicit the government’s support for the initiative.
Ironically, the venture received a boost through the help of priests at some 70 different churches in the US, who last summer urged their followers to boycott Abramovich and his new community. The broad media coverage attracted many new participants to the initiative.
The Christian group seeks to purchase land in Samaria, and Abramovich says that in Missouri alone a community of some 400 people is already keeping the Shabbat.
“They manage collective kibbutz life and aspire to create such community in Samaria, or in any area that would like to absorb people who truly love Israel and the Jewish religion,” he said.
MK Shemtov expressed her support for the idea, noting that “bringing hundreds of educated, established people to Israel will help in developing Samaria and reinforcing it as an inseparable part of the State of Israel. We are dealing with people who wish to undergo Orthodox conversion, contribute to the economy, and even to serve in the IDF.”
Officials at the Samaria Regional council confirmed that they were approached about the initiative, but noted that according to the Law of Return, only Jews can move to Israel and receive citizenship.
“If families from this group undergo proper conversion and move to Israel in line with the Law of Return, we’ll of course be happy to welcome them in Samaria,” one official said.

Regarding the Sages stating the difficulties converts often bring to Israel, you only quote Rav Chelbo. Try mentioning the events with Hillel and Shamai in Tractate Shabbat 31a. Then there is the compliments of how beneficial converts in the land of Israel are in Tractate Geirim.
Historically, we have almost always accepted converts, as long as they are sincere and understand what will become their obligations as Jews.

We agree that the “seed” refers to the Messiah. I don’t know of a good answer regarding being literally of Joseph’s seed, and I don’t know Mary’s lineage. There are some good Christian theologians who rightly criticize the majority of us for lack of diligence and thought in our faith – something G-d wants, but we tend to culturally ignore. I wish you had such a person to talk with. Here’s the only question I can think of for now, In Genesis, it also says that this ‘seed’ will crush Satan’s head. If the Messiah is just a man, how can he do that? That’s an honest question, I didn’t get it from a theologian nor any training on evangelizing Jews.

Christianity is based on the unique belief that Jesus was God’s Son, born of a virgin, sacrificed for the Salvation of man. The celebration of Christmas on December 25 was originally the pagan birthday of Mithras, the sun god, whose day of the week is still known as “Sunday.” The halo of light which is usually shown surrounding the face of Jesus and Christian saints, is another concept taken from the sun god. The theme of temptation by a devil-like creature was also found in pagan mythology. In particular, the story of Jesus’s temptation by Satan resembles the temptation of Osiris by the devil-god Set in Egyptian mythology.
On a followup note. Your ideas on Adam and Eve fail to account for the commandment to them, to be fruitful and multiply. How can a person be “fruitful” if they bear no fruit. Created ex-nihilo? How do you account for Adam coming from the “dust of the earth”.
If you say this then you are denying what the Prophet spoke of. The Mashiach (the real one) will be a branch from the root of Jesse. In order to accomplish this he must be from the literal seed of Jesse and David. This can’t be deemed to apply to be from Mary because the lineage doesn’t track. He must come from the father’s side, literally, otherwise the Prophet would have used terms that weren’t specific to a “seed”.
This notion of being a “lamb of god” is also contrary. There should have been a least a single instance in the Prophets where Mashiach would be so referred. But what we do find is other religions do use this term, “lamb of god”. These were all the pagan religions, such as Zoroastrianism and Mithraism, etc. Now, isn’t it interesting that G-d would institute a system that directly parallels the pagan religions that Israel was punished for following. So, is it any wonder that the Prophet speaks of the nations coming to Israel and saying that they inherited all lies.
Faith doesn’t have the same meaning as the Hebrew translated word “Emunah”. There’s Hebrew and then there Xtianese. The two do not correspond and it is why Xtianity doesn’t have any resemblance to Judaism. They are worlds apart. Would G-d create an institution that was worlds apart from what he taught Moshe at Sinai. Not hardly. G-d says he does not change. Therefore, the nations have inherited lies.

Shy Guy, here’s my attempt to answer, but I’m not a theologian, nor well-versed.
In Christianity, Jesus is the Word of G-d made flesh. As the Word, he existed before creation. So there was no “relationship” between G-d and Mary to “create” Jesus, because he was pre-existent. G-d created Adam and Eve ex-nihilo, so no need of sperm – or even egg for that matter to create the body that he would indwell. (Though I would think he did use Mary’s egg so that genetically, in his body he was Jewish.) As G-d’s Word, he cannot be killed or die, but the fleshly body he inhabited could die. As the Word of G-d made (temporarily) flesh, he was perfect, and so the perfect sacrifice (lamb) for our sins – so now we are no longer separated from G-d by the ugliness of our hearts and minds, but forgiven. So that’s why he’s our messiah -he rescued us from ourselves. Since he is the Word of G-d, then G-d Himself chose to be our messiah.
Jesus did embody and symbolize Israel in many ways – the suffering rejected servant hated by the world was meant to be a picture of Israel. The NT is clear that Jesus returns in a second saviour role to save Israel (not us) from her enemies. The NT teaches that Israel has not been rejected, but that G-d allowed the gentiles who did not seek Him to have faith to make Israel jealous, because of his love for Israel, who wasn’t always faithful. (We have failed miserably at being faithful ourselves.)
G-d calls us to reason, but faith is a gift we can’t boast about having earned.
As for dying for a ‘lie’, the NT says that if Jesus isn’t who he says he is, that’s exactly what they did, and all Christians are fools.

It is obvious that the only true Jews who should be allowed to live in Israel are Yamit and Shy Guy. Everyone in Israel should be just like them.

What the Akeidah teaches is that Abraham was tested in the same way that he found G-d. Abraham came to the conclusion of a One G-d through logical analysis. Abraham was to take his son, his “only son”. Now, previously Abraham was told that he would be the ancestor of a great nation and his son would be his heir to generations. If he were to offer this son there would be no generations to follow. This would go against Abraham’s logical analysis, and This was his test. How could he have generations without a son. On a final note, G-d did not say in specific terms to “sacrifice” his son.
On a previous note: Note that Zecharyah says in that verse, ‘riding on an ass’, and ‘on a donkey’, the ‘foal of a she ass’. There is a hidden meaning here concerning current events.
I’m still not seeing how there aren’t instances of intercession all throughout Jewish history. Was not a ram provided so that Abraham’s son, Isaac, would not perish? Wasn’t the Lord moved by Abraham’s brokenhearted willingness to sacrifice his own son in order to to show the depth of his submission to the LORD? Genesis 22 is very instructive.

You block-quoted but did not read. I wrote concerning the Xtian man-god and that what Zecharyah speaks of cannot apply to Yeshu, and that the writer of Matthew contrived a narrative. If the writer would have read the narrative he should have known it could not be speaking of Yeshu. So, when you included Is 53 we all know where you are coming from. And, if you have that Tanach you should be able to clearly understand that 53 is not speaking about Yeshu in particular.

Instead, what is the entire chapter speaking of. I believe Xtians want to use this as referring to their man-god. Just as with every other reference the chapter doesn’t fit. But even according to their text it is not a “prophecy”. What does Matthew say in that regard, not that it is a prophecy, but rather, get a pair of donkeys “so we can make it fit” that the prophet is speaking about yeshu. Notice that the text is contriving a prophetic fulfillment. Since this is the first of things written it sets down a theme for all of Xtianity, a contrived narrative.
And NOW you include Isaiah 53. Once again read the entire chapter, actually beginning in 52 and see that it isn’t speaking of one person but the entire “nation” of Israel. Read it with understanding and “see” that it is the Xtian nations who have sinned in their treatment of the Jews. No doubt YOUR version changes the plural references and replaces them with a singular reference.
So how should one interpret Zechariah 9:9? Or Isaiah 53?

The big beef about Jesus, is that he had the chutzpah to tell the corrupt Jewish leaders of his day that they were wrong. By the way, has anyone noticed that there are more Mormons in the world today than Jews? The same goes for Pentecostals, Assemblies of God, Seventh Day Adventists and probably also Jehovah’s Witnesses — and these Jewstian sects have been around less than 200 years. That’s because they’re all zealous for their religions and actively seeking converts. The Jews, meanwhile, seem more interested in turning people away. Duh, I wonder why the Jews are losing numbers.
Lots of Christians are tired of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, and want to practice a religion with genuine roots in the Bible; but you Jews are so hung up on Jesus (interesting pun), and on your own inflated self-worth, that you continually put them off. The greatest threat the Jews can pose to those who hate them, is to make it known that you cannot stamp out Judaism because TRUE Judaism is faith in the God of the Bible; and even if you killed off all the Jews in the world, more would flood to their ranks by the millions; because you cannot stamp out the word of God.

I hope we can avoid the Woody Allen response, namely that we do not want to associate with anyone who wants to associate with us. Beneath this sick joke is an element of self deprecation were some Jews think so little of their own faith that they cannot believe that any non-Jews would want to convert. During the Roman time we hear that many intelligent Romans converted to Judaism. Today we actually pride ourselves on discouraging converts. That is really sick. Sincere converts should be welcome just as it is taught in our religion. Along with that I hope that the self-hating Jews on the left would be encouraged to convert to something else and stop undermining Jewish security.
I don’t see a problem if they are sincere converts and they really want to reject Jesus. Still, I would be suspicious of a group which wants to come in to Israel en masse.

First of all, I suggested rephrasing the end to say “more converts making aliyah than Jews by birth”. Converts are Jews.

Ted, I’m all for anyone who wants to sincerely convert but my intuition tells me to be very suspicious.
Jews preying upon Bible-ignorant Christians. Shame, shame! Christians are in danger of death by assimilation (sarcasm).
Sadly, I meet more and more xtians in Israel who have “converted” because it is the only way to get into the country. “Managing to keep a Shabbat” does not make one a Jew. These people are in the country busily trying to convert all Jews to yashka. That is the reality. Why do Jews always fall for everything? By down grading our own heritage and religious beliefs and embracing xtians we are contributing to our own demise. Just ask any Jewish mother whose son decides not to become bar mitzva because he is following yashka now. Money, smiles,volunteering in the IDF, and yes, even undergoing a conversion–all considered legitimate in order to convert the Jews and grab out land. What will it take to wake us up?
Unfortunately, as we have read many time from many posters here in Israpundit land, there are many christians that consider themselves Jewish these days. Its gotten out of hand and is only going to get worse. Theres a reason why we are harsh on these people.
That being said, we don’t want to turn away real converts. The problem is finding out who’s who.
