Likud seeks to delay annexation bill

T. Belman.  To my mind, I think it important that the Knesset demonstrate its will so that Trump has to deal with it rather than the much more compliant Prime Minister. Netanyahu wants to shut them up and preempt it.

Coalition chairman asks Jewish Home to postpone vote sovereignty over Maaleh Adumim.

Coalition chairman MK David Bitan (Likud) on Monday asked the Jewish Home party to postpone the vote on the bill to apply sovereignty over Maaleh Adumim.

Bitan asked to delay the vote on the bill for three months, likely due to the desire of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to formulate policies with the Trump administration regarding Judea and Samaria.

MK Bezalel Smotrich (Jewish Home) addressed the issue on Twitter on Monday evening, writing, “There is no justification in hiding from our friend overseas the public and political support for Israeli sovereignty over Maaleh Adumim. The law remains on the agenda.”

Just last week, Minister Ze’ev Elkin (Likud) opined that annexation at present would lead to a crisis in relations with the U.S.

“We don’t need to receive messages from them to understand that the Americans will not be gratified if we surprise them and declare sovereignty [over Judea and Samaria],” said Elkin on Army Radio.

The comments came in response to Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, who said at a Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee meeting that “anyone who wants to apply Israeli sovereignty to Judea and Samaria needs to understand that such a step will bring immediate repercussions from the new U.S. government.”

  1. Let see what promises Abbas will mske to Trump. It is a matter of days or weeks. No need to rush and no need to give more excuses to the IL Sunnis to blame IL. Just a matter of few days/weeks.
The ultimate goal of the SuShi Islamofascists IS the ELIMINATION of Jews!IL will need to act accordingly! Probably before the end of this year.

  2. I agree with Ted and Yamit. Candidate Donald Trump claimed to be a friend of Israel. By passing the annexation bill, Israel will afford President Trump a chance to prove it — or not.

Are we ready to take risks? Or are we dead?

  3. Trump released the 221$ million he froze to the PA/Hamas. He did it quietly no press leak but the State Dept spokesman confirmed when asked in a press briefing….. Then last week announced Abbas invited to WH. No secret he told BB to stop building in Y&S so his opening moves echos the first days of Bush. Extending Israeli law to parts of area C where we have major Jewish populations now for over 40 years need not be a surprise to anyone not least Trump. Besides news reports direct conversations with BB The American embassay still in Tel Aviv will apprise Trump of Israeli moves and our political motives for doing so.

Trump has a full domestic agenda troops now in Iraq and Syria which will be increased soon and potential conflicts with N Korea, China and Russia….Little to no time should be given to the Palis at this time Arab support for them if any is now mostly proforma lip service and Israel should now create facts on the ground before Trump has a full team and formulated agenda re: the ME…. So he won’t be happy camper but Trump respects strength and about time Israel demonstrates both strength and political independence. Don’t believe we will have a more opportune time to annex at least some of Y&S than at the present time.
