Likud MK to INN: There will be agreements, both sides have to give up something

T. Belman. How can she be so confident when as she said, “We have not yet heard what the other side is proposing.”? I remain pessimistic.

MK Kathrin Shitrit, who represents Likud in talks on judicial reform, discusses her optimism that a compromise will be reached.

MK Kathrin Shitrit, who represents the Likud in the negotiations taking place at the President’s Residence in an attempt to reach compromises regarding the judicial reform, told Israel National News on Tuesday that she feels very optimistic about the possibility of reaching agreements.

“I arrived at the President’s Residence in a state of lack of motivation and pessimism that nothing would come of it and we would just check off that we held negotiations and then move on. I must say that I saw things that I did not expect such as a good, calm, cultured atmosphere, even humor sometimes. There was not a single person there who did not think that there should be an agreement and that changes are needed,” said Shitrit.

Despite the optimistic tone, she is not delusional, adding, “I really hope that the atmosphere that existed will continue as we get into the details and things will become more difficult. If the other side comes with a whole heart and a willing mind, I think there will be agreements. Each of the parties has to give up something.”

When asked if she is not concerned that the talks are just a trick by the opposition in order to intensify the fight against the reform, Shitrit replied, “If we choose to concentrate on these concerns, we will not make progress. They are not stupid, they are politicians who understand a thing or two. Gantz is rising in the polls because he calls for compromises, for dialogue, to find a common denominator and an agreement. On the other hand, Yair Lapid, who was angrier, fell in the polls. Both their public and ours want the opportunity to talk.”

Shitrit said she sees great importance in trying to create a broad consensus. “The people of Israel have gone through many internal disputes. Every time they try to force solutions – the results are devastating. I think the left understands this.”

Asked by Israel National News whether the Likud will go all the way with the legislation if the attempts at negotiations fail, Shitrit replied, “We have said our word and we have also said that we are ready to compromise. We have not yet heard what the other side is proposing. The left also knows that there must be a change in the entire concept of the Supreme Court. How will we do the this? This is a question we will have to discuss.”

  1. What about the Biden Veto? The only acceptable compromise is a return to the Status quo where Biden gets everything he wants thought the “reasonableness” activity of the SC.
