Lerner: Kerry will fail because he isn’t offering enough to the Palestinians

By Ted Belman

I received an email today informing me that Huffington Post posted an article by Rabbi Michael Lerner entitled Why the Kerry Middle East Peace Framework Will Fail. Guess why.

And it will fail, because Kerry’s plan will be “realistic” rather than visionary, and de facto that means speaking more to the power of Israel and its domestic lobby (not only AIPAC, but the tens if millions of Christian Zionists) than to the aspirations of the Palestinian people.

The central issue for the Palestinians, beyond borders adhering closely to the pre-1967 borders with some land swaps to make it possible for some West Bank settlement to be included inside Israel while giving Palestine land equivalent in values, historic and military significance, and a capitol for their state that includes all of East Jerusalem, is this: there must be the appearance of justice for the 800,000 plus Palestinian refugees, many forced out of their homes by the Israeli army or by Jewish terrorist groups, and for their several million descendants, many of whom still live in some of the worst conditions on the planet in Gaza or in refugee camps in Arab lands.

Kerry should propose that Israel allow 20,000 such refugees to return to Israel each year for the next 40 years, a number significant enough to be taken seriously by Palestinians but small enough to eliminate worries that the Palestinians would quickly become the majority inside Israel and thus have two Palestinian states. This must be accompanied by a public apology from Israel for its part of the responsibility for the disaster that happened to the Palestinian people in 1948 (without claiming that Israel has all of the responsibility or guilt).

Kerry’s plan must offer reparations from the international community to Palestinian refugees and their descendants, as well as to families who suffered measurable loss or incarceration in Israeli prisons during the Occupation. The amount should be generous so that Palestinians will be brought to an economic level equivalent to the Israeli median income within a ten-year period. The same level of reparations must also be made available to all Jews who fled Arab lands between 1948 and 1977. After all, it is the international community, by tolerating or promoting anti-Semitism for hundreds of years, that caused the urgent need for the Jewish people to return to our ancient homeland.

Unbelievable. Lerner completely legitimates the demands of the Palestinians all of which are unfounded and unreasonable.

  1. Why give this outcast the oxygen of publicity?

You can find articles like this almost every day of the week by creepy Jews in the Guardian.

  2. Kerry will fail because the Palestinians will only accept a peace settlement with Israel that includes the total destruction of the Jewish State of Israel and the genocide of all the Jews. The Palestinians will accept nothing less than these two non negotiable demands. This is why it does not matter one little bit what Israel does or does not do, the Palestinians want all of us Jews dead and our country gone, that is their minimum and their maximum demand, non negotiable and absolute. Sorry Kerry, you are going to fail just like every other mediator has and for exactly the same reason.

  3. Lerner an arch Jewish traitor should be attacked as a Rabbi imposter, a Jew in Name only and as a leftist antisemtic, anti-Israel ideologue. He should be banned from stepping foot ever in the Land of Israel and if it were up to me I wold even consider a more permanent sanction based on the halachic law of “Din Moser”. (Din Moser halachic “duty” to eliminate a Jew who intends to turn another Jew in to non-Jewish authorities).

  4. Lerner identifies himself as a duly ordained rabbi. But in fact he was given a controversial private rabbinic ordination by “Jewish Renewal” rabbis, whose ordinations are recognized only by those within the Jewish Renewal community and Reconstructionist Judaism. Orthodox Judaism, the Reform movement’s Central Conference of American Rabbis, and the Conservative movement’s Rabbinical Assembly all consider such ordinations invalid.
At Berkeley, Lerner served as Chair of both the Free Student Union and the Berkeley chapter of Students for a Democratic Society. He also was active in the so-called Free Speech Movement, a 1964 eruption that culminated in the occupation of the university administration building and the arrest of 800 student trespassers. It was the first “takeover” of a campus building in the history of American higher education and set the stage for political actions on college campuses for the next generation.

another “jew” out to screw the jews.

  5. They were forced out of their homes by their own leaders who demanded they leave in the belief they would snuff out the newly established Jewish state.

They hardly live in some of the worst conditions on the planet, not by a long shot. We’ve all seen the photos of the luxury hotels and olympic size swimming pools and nice homes in Gaza and the stores shelves stocked with goods. And in any case, hamas, not Israel controls Gaza. And they may indeed be living in horrible conditions in refugee camps in Arab lands. But I fail to see how that is Israel’s fault rather than that of their fellow Arabs.

Lerner is out of his mind as is the case in general with Jewish liberals.

Thank you for saying that which I am to much of a “Southern Belle” to say? Maybe put the ” good Rabbi” in you dental chair?

  7. Open ANY tv channel…. Open ANY newspaper and the common denominator is thuggish intolerant behavior displayed by the left, the delusional left and the out of the stratosphere left…
Any and ALL opinions not in line with their utopian fabrication are immediately, rejected, ridiculed and shouted down. The few brave souls that actually DARE to face them, risk to be demonized, demoted, have their reputation and in a few cases also, their livelihood destroyed.
Any attempt to try and ‘reason’ and have a civilized discourse with this species has proven time and again, how futile it is.
Even worse, it serves to fuel even further attacks whose aim is to silence all that is good.
It is time to fight fire with fire.
    Subtleties DO NOT WORK.

This f***g sob who DARES to call himself a ‘rabbi’ should be made into a poster boy for the counter action.
