Left-Wing Jews: a Jewish and American Tragedy

T. Belman. And don’t forget HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society).  It no longer supports Jewish immigrants but focuses its attention on Muslim immigrants. As a result antisemitism is increasing in America.

The ADL, which at one time was preoccupied with fighting anti-Semitism, is now preoccupied with fighting Donald Trump and fighting on behalf of the American left.”

“Given the rule that whatever the left touches it ultimately ruins (the universities, for example), the Bronsteins will continue to pay the price for the Trotskys’ revolutions.”

 By Dennis Prager, JWR

It is probably impossible to overstate the damage left-wing — not liberal but left-wing — Jews are doing to Judaism, Jews and America. Of course, the same can be said of the damage left-wing Catholics are doing to Catholicism and America, other left-wing Christians are doing to Christianity and America, and, most obviously, the damage the secular left-wing is doing. But since anti-Semitism is in the news, and given the prominence of many left-wing Jews, I will focus on them.

The damage done to Jews by left-wing Jews is not new. It began at the beginning of the left with Karl Marx, the grandson of two Orthodox rabbis (his parents had undergone pro forma conversion to Christianity). He wrote one of the most anti-Semitic tracts of the 19th century, “On the Jewish Question,” published in 1844. In it he wrote, among other things:

“What is the worldly religion of the Jew? Huckstering …”

“What is his worldly G od? Money …”

“Money is the jealous god of Israel, in face of which no other god may exist …”

“In the final analysis, the emancipation of the Jews is the emancipation of mankind from Judaism.”

In the early 20th century, another left-wing Jew, Leon Trotsky, who, along with Lenin, led the Bolshevik Party in Russia, was a catastrophe for Jews and for humanity. In 1920, when Trotsky was head of the Red Army, Moscow’s chief rabbi, Rabbi Jacob Mazeh, asked him to use the army to protect the Jews from pogromist attacks in which tens thousands of Jews were murdered. Trotsky is reported to have responded: “Why do you come to me? I am not a Jew,” to which Rabbi Mazeh answered: “That’s the tragedy. It’s the Trotskys who make revolutions, and it’s the Bronsteins who pay the price.”

That is the story of the many Jewish leftists to this day: Jewish leftists make revolutions, and all the Jews (among millions of others) pay the price.

Thus, many of the leaders of the movement to economically strangle Israel — the Boycott, Divest, Sanctions (BDS) movement — are left-wing Jews.

A few years ago, I was invited to the world’s most famous debating forum, the Oxford Union, to debate the farcical question of whether Israel or Hamas is a greater obstacle to peace in the Middle East. One of my two adversaries was a Jewish former professor at Oxford. He argued that Israel was a greater threat to peace than Hamas.

Another prominent left-wing Jew, MIT professor Noam Chomsky, has devoted his life to writing and speaking against two countries: the United States and Israel.

The security of the world’s only Jewish state is by far the greatest security issue for world Jewry. Yet many left-wing Jews attack Israel, support many of those who wish to destroy Israel or, at the very least, do nothing to strengthen Israel’s security.

In America today, leftism has poisoned so many non-Orthodox synagogues, they differ only from the American Civil Liberties Union or the Democratic Party in their use of Hebrew liturgy.

Many non-Orthodox synagogues sat shiva — Judaism’s seven days of mourning after the death of an immediate relative — when Donald Trump was elected president. This perversion of Judaism is an example of what leftism does to every religion it infiltrates. I suspect none of those synagogues sat shiva after the murder of 11 Jews in Pittsburgh. Why? Did the election of Donald Trump bother them more? Left-wing Jews are ethnically Jewish, but their values derive from leftism (just as the current pope is Catholic in his identity but his values derive from leftism).

The current charge that the Pittsburgh massacre was caused by President Trump is one of the greatest libels in American history. Virtually every left-wing columnist and commentator has spread this lie, most of them written by left-wing Jews such as the Washington Post’s Dana Milbank. One of their lies is that attacks on George Soros are anti-Semitic.

I think George Soros is a malevolent force. Am I an anti-Semite? (To answer that, let’s compare what I have done for Jews and Judaism with what any of these left-wing Jews have done.) But left-wing Jews have always done this. They attributed the execution of the Rosenbergs — who, immoral leftists that they were, passed on the secrets to the atom bomb to Stalin — to anti-Semitism. The judge in the Rosenberg case was a Jew. But to left-wing Jews, that didn’t matter. Ever since Stalin labeled Trotsky a “fascist,” leftists have always depicted their opponents as “Nazis,” “racists,” “anti-Semites,” “fascists,” “haters” and “bigots.” That is their modus operandi.

Many of these left-wing Jews base this libel about President Trump’s “role” in the context of an equally libelous claim that there has been a great rise in American anti-Semitism in the Trump era — resulting in the Pittsburgh massacre — based on an Anti-Defamation League study. The study’s mendacity is fully exposed by David E. Bernstein, a professor of law at George Mason University Law School and a Trump opponent , in two devastating reviews (one on Reason.com and one in  Tablet Magazine ).

Read them and you will understand one of the most important things you need to know about the left: Truth is not a left-wing value. The ADL, which at one time was preoccupied with fighting anti-Semitism, is now preoccupied with fighting Donald Trump and fighting on behalf of the American left.

In 1970, a Harris study showed that 23 percent of Jewish college students termed themselves “far left” versus 4 percent of Protestants and 2 percent of Catholics.

Many of those college students are now many of the non-Orthodox rabbis and lay leaders in American Jewish life. Given the rule that whatever the left touches it ultimately ruins (the universities, for example), the Bronsteins will continue to pay the price for the Trotskys’ revolutions.

  1. @ Michael S:

Regarding your “ratios”, when in this case it was percentages everyone was using., (You didn’t mention the ratio of Jews)….So, regarding the voting pattern, you carefully omitted “twice as LOW as Jews”, preferring “twice as much as Jews”.

As for spell-checking. I have 2 badly sticking keys that I mentioned a week or so ago. And although I go back over everything, sometimes they won’t work, so. SO WHAT.,,!!

At least I don’t try to insidiously peddle a false religious mythology under the guise of including it with “on the subject” comments. Religious loonies should be more careful not to bring their trash to a strongly Jewish site.

  2. @ Edgar G.:
Edgar, you should stick to being our resident spellchecker. You flunked both reading comprehension and math.

FYI, the ratio 10:1 is twice as big as the ratio 5:1

  3. @ Edgar G.:

Right now in Broward County, where most Jews live, they have been discovering voter fraud, aided and abetted by the Official who is supposed to be the supervisor. She “happens” to be a Democrat. Scott the Republican senator elect, was ahead by about 60,000 votes after they were all counted. Then…..they discovered another batch of votes which brought his margin down to about 40,000…..then…..again they discovered more ….which brought his margin down to 15,000 votes. These “newly discovered” were all supposed to have been counted and reported by a set time long before.., which therefore made the extra votes illegal anyway.

It didn’t take long for the Repubs to see that the margin was going all then same direction…downward. Then they discovered that the official had destroyed large numbers of votes and then replaced them with ones filled in by herself. And they also knew that she had a very bad reputation over voting fraud from previous times….So a Judge stepped in, examined the matter, and gave a decision in favour of Scott.

So far ..so good…. but it’ll likely lead to a recount, It will be difficult to find LEGAL votes enough to offset a 60,000 vote lead but the Dems are desperate enough to try aything..

The point I’m making it that it’s a REAL MESS….and wll tae a while to untangle.

  4. @ Bear Klein:

Bear ..the significant thing about the Florida Jews,(3.2% of total) is that they are mostly adults and even the bed-bound insist on voting…all Democrat. I still have full tapes of the on the Bush-Gore tzimmis. So..block voting in certain areas are sure winners even when the Dem candidates are losers otherwicott and De Santis won with rather less than .5% and are presently expected to go to legally mandated recount.

That’s ONE CERTAIN thing that can be blamed on the Jews…..

  5. I see some very imaginative mathematics on this page…. that 10 of a hundred is double that of 20 of a hundred….except backwards of course…..(it’s permissible when one is denigrating Jews)….or upside down… Freud says something about such…

  6. @ Bear Klein:
“One of my friends campaigned heavily for DeSantis and switching some of the normally heavy Jewish Dem vote to DeSantis likely helped”

It probably did help, and I’m grateful.

  7. Jewish in midterms was 2% of the overall vote. Only in a few specific locals can it have any significance.

The largest Jewish weekly publication in the U.S., the Jewish Press, just endorsed Rep. Ron DeSantis over Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum for Florida governor. In a close race, this really could matter.

As the race goes down to the wire, both campaigns have made overtures to South Florida’s relatively large population of Jewish voters. It is a small demographic to be sure — the Tampa Bay Times estimates there are roughly 630,000 Jewish Floridians. But it is a key demographic in a race that will likely be decided by the slimmest of margins.

Appealing to those voters, the Jewish Press points out that DeSantis opposed the Iranian nuclear deal and supported moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.

One of my friends campaigned heavily for DeSantis and switching some of the normally heavy Jewish Dem vote to DeSantis likely helped.

  8. @ keelie:

Bravo Keelie…you make very valid points, and I can add that it was “right wing” ideology which brought good and humanity into this world, and “left wing” ideology which is working hard to ruin it.

  9. @ Lorensacho:

From the content of this post…can I believe my eyes…are you saying that you are a JEW…… ….Hard to believe… and I’m not sure I do.. On of US…..??

Well seeing what destruction far left loony Jews have done to the Body Judaism, I suppose it’s possible.

  10. @ Lorensacho:
I totally disagree. What makes Prager’s attack “self indulgent”? And why should he not attack left wing Jews? In what way does this “deepen our polarization”? In fact it is the left wing Jews who deepen our polarization.
There’s an inverse relationship between left wing thinking and Jewish thinking, so the more we Jews worship at the feet of left wing ideology, the less Jewish we become. One can’t worship two gods… a fact that no doubt doesn’t trouble the ideologically bound.
Of course some may say that this also applies to right wing ideology, but to the average left winger, right wingers are no more than one micron to the right of their own position as left wingers. This is what the assumption of moral superiority does to left wing ideologues; the end always justifies the means. And failure to achieve this moral end usually ends (for a start) in the dementia we see around us.

  11. There is no difference between left and right wing Jews any more than there is a difference between orthodox, conservative and reform Jews in the eyes of the Nazis and their helpers who put us in line at the gas chamber doors. Dennis Prager’s self indulgent attack on left wing Jews just deepens our polarization and weakens us as a people. Stop it Dennis, we are all in the same boat!

  12. Some pedantic, scholarly caveats to Praeger’s piece:There are varying accounts of Moscow’s chief rabbi’s meeting with Trotsky. Some sources say he asked for Trotsky’s help in protecting Jews from pogroms, others that he asked Trotsky to allow Jews to bake matzah for Passover in the traditional, kosher way, which had been prohibited by lower-level Bolshevik officials. All accounts agree that Trotsky replied by denying that he was a Jew (although he freely admitted this on many other occasions), and that he rudely ushered the chief rabbi out of his office. However, none of the accounts I have read say that the chief rabbi made the remark about the Trotsky’s and the Bronstein’s to Trotsky’s face. Some say he did say it later to other people. However, other sources say the comparison between the Trotsky’s and the Bronsteins actually originated with Trotsky’s own father, whose last name was Bronstein. All agree that Trotsky refused to give his father any assistance or support in his old age, after the Bolsheviks had seized all his property and left him destitute . He even refused his father’s request that he buy him a pair of shoes! This would have given his father good reason to coin this saying. But the truth is, no one really knows who first said it.

  13. While I agree with the main thrust of Prager’s article, he is too one-sided in his attack on the Pope. For generations, conservative, even reactionary Catholic Popes were flagrantly antisemitic. Pope Francis has condemned antisemitism, has held meetings with Jewish leaders, visited Israel and maintains diplomatic relations with Israel. His attitude toward Israel is overly critical, perhaps, but he is certainly much less hostile to Israel and Jews than Pope Pius XII of not-so-blessed memory.
While generally expressing left-leaning sentiments, his position on abortion contrasts sharply with that of the Left.
