  1. People who fetishize elections and freedom of political speech in these countries often fail to note that, on the ground, life is much more democratic for oppressed minorities like women and Jews under “strong man” regimes like that of Mubarak or the late Shah of Iran. The right to just live unmolested and some vestige of legal equality. What’s a more democratic right?

  2. I hope Trump’s wall will be both above and below ground like the new Israeli wall.

I agree with the comment about “warming Egyptian relations.” Historically, tolerant Muslim rulers were often overthrown by rivals who tapped into the anger of the masses of Muslims at the comparative tolerance shown Jews. Real “Democracy” in these countries, is about the last thing we need. Better a strong man like Mubarak or Sisi who does the right thing and keeps these lunatics under control.

Those who wax poetic about “warming egyptian relations” should not delude themselves. These so called warming relations are conmpletely based on the Gulf arab monarchies current accomodations with Israel in their war against Iran. the monarchies instruct their well funded proxy to cooperate with Israel, but this is temporary and rests on unstable foundations. It is entirely dependent on sisi and not reflected in the egyptian population. The same is true with any search for peace with the muslim arabs occupying Judea samaria…. it is a war of the muslims against the Jews, after all, malaysia is not arabic. All searching for peace by Israeli Jews is a futile self delusion because there can be no real peace until after the entire culture of the muslims changes… eg they leave islam. Until then one should only deal with them as hostile populations with whom one sometimes has a truce… that is how they deal with Israel.
