- The new Government is to be voted on in Knesset either on June 9 or 14.
- 24 hours before voting the coalition agreements will all be released.
- All parties have a veto power over anything not in the agreements.
- Bibi did not build in J&S because of a freeze.
- Bennett may be able to build within the settlement borders. Meretz has suggested it will go along with such building, If so there will be a building boom.
- Bennett has the right to invite Shas and UTJ into the government. If they join, Meretz and Ra’am will no longer be able to hold the government hostage.
- As PM, there are many things he can do not requiring Knesset approval.
- The Security Cabinet is dominated by rightists.
Another problem that Bennett will have to face is that if he is unable to reach agreement with the leftists and Arabs in his coalition about aid for the settlements, and is unable to work with Netanyahu to form a new government, he will have to face new elections, in which Yamina is unlikely to do well. Because many of Yamina’s former supporters are disillusioned with Bennet and Shaked because of their willingness to form a coalition with leftists, Yamina might not pass the electoral threshhold to get into the Knesset. That may make Bennett unwilling to stand up to the leftist and Arab parties, because he does not want the knesset to vote to dissolve itself and hold new elections. But if he does not stand up to his leftist coalition partners and call their bluff, he could end up rubber-stamping their anti-settlement, pro-Hamas and pro-PLO policies. In effect, the “Ramsay MacDonald” precedent that I have frequently written about.
The Coalition Agreement States that anything in is agreed by all the Parties. Anything in addition will require all parties to agree.
So we will need to see what is in the complete agreement before we know what is agreed upon and the opponents to the New Unity government are simply fabricating to try and put roadblocks in its way from its establishment.
The Haredi parties have been invited to join the coalition. Either Bennett or Lapid can bring them into the coalition without a vote of the entire coalition. If this happens this will much stabilize the new coalition. The other requirement for stability is the passing of a two year budget.
Meretz, Labor and Ra’am are absolutely opposed to continued assistance to the settlements. They will not remain in the government if Bennett insists on pushing through appropriations for the Knesset when the budget next comes up for a vote.
Legally, Bennett could remain in office with a minority government. But he would be unable to pass a budget without the support of the LiIkud and the right-wing parties.
The Likud is likely to be led by Netanyahu for the foreseeable future. He is not willing to resign as party chief, and he has stacked the Likud MPs with his loyalists. Even the leaders of the “moderate” non-leftist parties hate Netanyahu personally, and will be unwilling to remain in a government that must rely on Netanyahu’s outside support to govern. For that matter, Bennett personally hates Netanyahu as well and won’t be willing to work with him.
The result will be the collapse of the government and the much dreaded fifth elections will have to be held.
Many of the writers of Arutz Sheva are now acting simply in a fashion to bash the upcoming Unity Government. Sometimes truth has no relationship to what they write. There are NO FINAL STATUS talks coming UP with the PALS this is pure made UP DISINFORMATION.
Scorched earth appears to Bibi and and some of associates MO towards the upcoming government. They are trying to everything and anything to stop the government from forming.
Bibi could have done the one thing would stopped this government from forming a few weeks back. BIBI COULD HAVE STEPPED DOWN SEVERAL WEEKS AGO AND LET THE LIKUD HAVE A PRIMARY. THIS WOULD HAVE ALLOWED FOR THE FORMATION OF A LARGE STABLE RIGHT WING GOVERNMENT!!
