Kerry’s plan envisions Palestinian capital in East Jerusalem and 67 lines with swaps

I am sure Bibi was hoping to bypass his Cabinet by going to the people with a referendum.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s draft framework agreement for Middle East peace talks will include support for establishing a Palestinian capital in Arab areas of East Jerusalem, senior New York Times analyst Thomas Friedman wrote in his column published Wednesday.

Friedman, who is currently visiting Israel, said that Kerry’s framework document would present the core concessions that Washington considers Israelis and Palestinians need to make for a fair, lasting deal.

In his column, Friedman spells out the points he believes the document will contain:

“The ‘Kerry Plan,’ likely to be unveiled soon, is expected to call for an end to the conflict and all claims, following a phased Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank [based on the 1967 lines], with unprecedented security arrangements in the strategic Jordan Valley,” writes Friedman.

“The Israeli withdrawal will not include certain settlement blocs, but Israel will compensate the Palestinians for them with Israeli territory,” he writes. “It will call for the Palestinians to have a capital in Arab East Jerusalem and for Palestinians to recognize Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people. It will not include any right of return for Palestinian refugees into Israel proper.”

According to Friedman, Kerry “expects and hopes” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will agree to the framework agreement as the “basis of further negotiations” even if they disagree about one more elements in the plan.

But, Friedman adds, if Netanyahu and/or Abbas fail to agree to the draft, “Kerry would have to take his mission to its logical, fanatical conclusion and declare the end of the negotiated two-state solution.”

“So that’s where we are,” Friedman writes. “Israelis and Palestinians need to understand that Kerry’s mission is the last train to a negotiated two-state solution. The next train is the one coming at them.”

I don’t do cakes they never come out right. Breads are my forte and other baked products from same dough mix.

I usually mix strawberries with sour cream, let them sit for an hour or so. Sometimes make a fruit salad with bananas and other in seasonal fruits.

Poor mouse! When my cats catch mice they sometimes bring them home as trophy’s and to play with them. If I catch them I make them release them back outdoors. They don’t like me for a spell but get over it. We have lots of field mice out here but the cats keep them mostly away. It’s the big rodents that are the problem and snakes.

Ontario Attorney General Refuses to Act

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TORONTO, January 31, 2014 — B’nai Brith Canada, the country’s senior Jewish human rights organization, has been informed that the Ontario Attorney General (AG) has not consented to the laying of hate crime charges against Mr. Elias Hazineh. Hazineh, who spoke at the Iranian-inspired Al-Quds Day rally at Queen’s Park to an adoring crowd, was caught on video issuing an ultimatum that Israeli Jews either leave Jerusalem or be shot.

“We are disappointed by the decision not to confront hatred on the streets of Toronto,” said Frank Dimant, CEO, B’nai Brith Canada. “It seems that we have sadly grown accustomed to hearing hateful rhetoric spewed at these pro-Iranian-regime, anti-Israel events. As we have noted, Al-Quds Day, a now annual event, is a route by which Canadians are being exposed to the radical and hateful ideologies of the late Ayatollah Khomeini and the banned terrorist group Hezbollah.

  12. @ yamit82:

That’s true and why bother with the farce of sitting down with the Arabs?

If America can deliver the goods, you don’t need the Arabs.

The open question is whether the goods America has on offer makes a bad agreement politically viable in Israel?

    We shall see.

  14. NormanF Said:

That depends on a lot of things, particularly what Netanyahu could get from the Arabs.

But people are smart enough to see through spin. If there’s no beef, there’s no need to hold a referendum

Negotiations are not with the Arabs they are with America.

Three fallacies have become embedded in the Israeli psyche. 1-Peace as an amorphous secular religious concept and 2- we cannot survive without American backing and support. 3-America is our friend and ally. Consequently it will be an uphill battle to vote down an agreement already agreed upon by all the parties. Even if it’s a bad agreement. Never been done in the past and BB knows it.

All the negatives will be downplayed by spin. There is no reason to believe this time will have different results and those of our past. 1000 Israel Businessmen and CEO’s have signed petitions of encouragement for BB to make any concessions for an agreement. These are mostly the who’s Who in the Israel economy. They have more clout and influence on BB than Obama. They are taking the EU threats seriously.

Bennett replied to them but “what if the peace agreement falls apart what happens to their business outlook?” They have no answer.

    Peace Bro!!!!!

  15. David Chase Said:

I never understood how Friedman, who doesn’t live here and probably doesn’t care to much about his Judaism, really believes that some TSS would really work.

    George Soros has deep pockets.

  16. I never understood how Friedman, who doesn’t live here and probably doesn’t care to much about his Judaism, really believes that some TSS would really work. He holds the warped thinking that it’s supposedly better to make a deal, any deal, even if the Palestinians agree to squat, than to let the “opportunity” pass by. Let the trains collide- I guarantee we will survive that better- in the long run especially. I think the fear of conflict is worse than the conflict and it is the fear of conflict that leads supposedly intelligent people to give in to incredibly stupid ideas.

  17. @ yamit82:

That depends on a lot of things, particularly what Netanyahu could get from the Arabs.

But people are smart enough to see through spin. If there’s no beef, there’s no need to hold a referendum.

This is not acceptable to any Jewish Israeli! Israeli soldiers did not fight on Ammunition Hill to liberate Jerusalem to see the politicians give it away! A thousand times, no! If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, may my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth and may my right hand be cut off, if I forget my chiefestjoy!

Depending on the frame it’s presented and the Spin by BB and a supportive media and press, quite possible a majority will vote in favor. If it goes to a referendum BB will try to get the wording to be in his favor and the public gets to vote yes or no. BB will try to have a referendum in place ASAP so as to not give a lot of time for public debate. If there are hidden parts to the agreement not being made public it’s to his advantage to get the public’s approval before any secret details are leaked and there will be secret parts not made public. There always are.

Watch out for a crazed settler to massacre Arabs or attempt to blow up the Dome of the Rock or al-Aksa!!! Something big enough to place all settlers in a negative light like they did with Goldstein in Hebron. BB will do everything with the help of the Shin Bet to set the settlers and the Land of Israel supporters as enemies of peace. They will allow the Arabs to murder Jews while restricting the Jews ability to defend themselves in hopes many will leave without compensation.

This is what all Israeli governments have done since Begin. It worked in every case. BB was also either PM or a minister of most of those governments.

BB does intensive private internal polling much more exact than those in the public spheres. If he believes he will lose a referendum he will call new elections and run on the agreement spending hundreds of millions to convince the public. The left will support him most of the religious, the Arabs and many traditional Likud voters.

The Americans will interfere, the Europeans will interfere, their NGO’s will interfere and the consequences of not agreeing will be pressed home painted in the most dire and graphic manner.3

I have learned never to overestimate the Israeli public when doing the right thing is on the line.

  19. This is not acceptable to any Jewish Israeli! Its not acceptable to Jerusalem’s Arabs who have no wish to live under PA rule.

It will never pass a national referendum. It is a non-starter and its complete rubbish.

Israeli soldiers did not fight on Ammunition Hill to liberate Jerusalem to see the politicians give it away! A thousand times, no! If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, may my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth and may my right hand be cut off, if I forget my chiefest joy!
