Martin Sherman’s observations are very cogent as always. One point that should I think should be more emphasized is that Jordan might be “reunited” as a single state within its 1949-1967 (de facto and illegal) borders–but this time under the rule of the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas, not the Hashemites. Hamas only seeks a Palestinian state in Gaza, Judea and Samaria as a tactical, transitional goal in order to oust Israel from these territories. Their leaders have been quite open about this. Also, Hamas is only the “Palestinian” branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, which has a very large and powerful presence in Jordan. If Transjordan, Judea-Samaria and Gaza are all united under a Muslim Brotherhood-Hamas regime, the threat to Israel will be very great.
