I suspect that this is by prior agreement with the police, in return for being granted a permit to hold the demonstration. I prudent decision by the demonstrators. A wise change of tactics. I suspect that most Jordanians want the “regime” to go, and the king to leave, but they are not eager for a personal confrontation with him and his core supporters in the security service. He needs to be given some space to leave quietly, without losing face. Face is important in the middle East.
