MK Motti Yogev dismisses left’s criticism of a new civics textbook, stresses that the government will promote Israel’s Jewish roots.
MK Motti Yogev (Jewish Home) is unfazed by the left’s criticism of a new civics textbook that was recently approved.
The book was written by, among others, Dr. Assaf Malach who is head of the professional committee on civics, and was approved by Education Minister Naftali Bennett. Many of the political left have claimed the book includes “right-wing values”.
Speaking with Arutz Sheva on Thursday, Yogev rejected recent criticism by the chairman of the Civics Committee, who claimed that ministers or CEOs cannot intervene in the curriculum.
“Ministers must intervene in the curriculum,” he said, adding that it’s time for the left to get used to the fact that it no longer controls the elites. “The State of Israel, as other countries do, has national values ??and Jewish and Zionist values. We are not a state of all its citizens.”
“They tried for years to highlight the democratic side and hide our Jewish roots,” said Yogev, noting that the previous civics textbook “did not include one word about Judaism. So Minister Bennett did well by deciding to balance things and add Jewish content.”
The left, continued Yogev, “are a vocal minority, and I’m glad we have a nationalist government with a clear agenda. And this government intends to promote and make our state an even more Jewish state; we have a majority. Even the Education Committee knows who it represents: the Israeli government and the nationalist majority in the Israeli Knesset.”
“The new civics textbook will be taught in state-funded schools so that the students can learn more values. Strengthening the Jewish roots will strengthen the future generations,” he stressed.
Yogev added that the Zionist-Jewish change has begun to permeate all sectors of Israeli society.
“That’s the nature of democracy; majority rules and the majority is nationalist. It’s true that the left still dominates academia and universities, as we saw this week in the harsh statements made by professors at the Hebrew University, and if it was the opposite they would have been fired long ago. There is an attempt to erase our Jewish roots and it will not succeed. The same will happen with the Attorney General, who will step down within a few days, and [the new one] will come and balance the Jewish roots in the courts, which until now have been controlled by the elites in an undemocratic fashion,” he concluded.
It’s time for the Government to stop giving one cent in advertisement revenue to Newspapers like Haaretz. This Palestinian loving left wing rag’s circulation has fallen 50% in the last 3 years .Their Muslim fans don’t spend one cent on this newspaper and their advertisers .For not the advertising revenue from the government Haaretz would have been closed 5 years ago .
