Israel holds ‘substantive’ talks with Quartet delegation that included EU reps

T. Belman. So much for Israel’s threat not to deal with the EU on the peace process because of the labeling. I wonder if the latest capitulation by the US to Russia on the Assad question also involved other cooperation such as in the peace process.

I think the key issue being discussed is cutting a deal whereby Israel is permitted to build in the settlement blocs in exchange for Israel transferring part of C to the PA. I am strongly against such a deal. Oslo gives us the right to build in Area C and keep it until a deal is agreed upon. We shouldn’t have to pay for this right twice.

Israel  officials met with a high-level Quartet delegation this week, despite the fact that it includes an EU representative with whom Israel has said it will not meet on a bilateral basis to discuss the diplomatic process with the Palestinians.

The Quartet delegation, with representatives from the US, Russia, the EU and the UN, arrived Monday with the aim of trying to de-escalate the situation and find a way to move the diplomatic process forward.

The delegation met in the Prime Minister’s Office Monday night for a meeting the Foreign Ministry said was “long, substantive and serious” – discussing ways to stop the violence, restore security, stop incitement and look for future horizons in the diplomatic process.

Quartet representatives met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s envoy Yitzhak Molcho, Foreign Ministry director-general Dore Gold and head of the Foreign Ministry’s International Division, Roni Leshno-Yaar.

According to a statement put out by the Foreign Ministry, both the Quartet and Israel agreed that a continuation of a diplomatic process is the best guarantor for peace and security. Israel stressed that it attributes importance to the continued negotiations.

The decision to dispatch the delegation was made at a meeting of the Quartet in September, but it was postponed first in October, and then earlier this month.

Netanyahu directed the Foreign Ministry last month to suspend all discussions with the EU on the diplomatic process because of its decision to label products from the settlements.

The suspension is pending a reassessment in Jerusalem of its ties with the EU institutions A senior government official told the Post on Tuesday, however, that Israel would meet with the Quartet delegation, because it had no intention of punishing the US, Russia or the UN. The official said that a separate meeting with the EU envoy, Fernando Gentilini, would probably not take place.

  1. It makes sense that the euros say that jewish settlement is illegal in YS as I have never heard netanyahu state the contrary in his past 3 terms… he has NEVER stated that “Jewish settlement in YS is both legal and legitimate”. If the Israeli PM cannot bring himself to utter those simple words why then expect any foreigner to utter them. The betrayals of the west are a mirror of the betrayals of Jews in Israel starting at the top. Its time to stop moaning about the foreigners as they dont do anything that the Jews of israel haven’t already done. the house of Israel needs cleaning.

The Western world will not miss one opportunity to undermine/back stab Jews and Israel.

No need to depend on the western world there is enough back stabbing by Jews in Israel starting with the lynch mob of jewish settlers and the murderous libels of Israeli leftists who I beleive are directly responsible for the revenge burnings and stabbings. there is no libel of Israel or Jews in the western world that did not begin in Israel. the Israeli leftists bring the lies and the western world eats it up; BB allows the euros to illegally build homes for muslims in the Jewish homeland… is that not backstabbing?

What is interesting to me is the utter contempt that BB has for his voting constituency. He knows their memory never lives beyond a week or two and therefore does not even bother to offer excuses for his now very long list of BS announcements and declarations which never happen. Now BB shovels BS almost daily without a care as to anyone noticing that they never happen. I cant imagine how those who panicked from Bennett to BB explain his pathology to themselves.
The labeling will go the way of Iran.. lots of noise but no action. Meanwhile BB will continue to allow Euro govs to illegally build muslim homes in YS while pretending he is not allowing them to do it intentionally…. and the suckers who support him will keep buying into it. There are now so many examples of BB sabotaging and obstructing any right wing agenda that they are forgotten and replaced daily by the next smoke and mirrors performance. Facts are forgotten.
